  • DISHONEST JOHN'S GUIDE TO SERVICE SCAMS 6 Oct 2001 (News)
The Oil Filter Flanker Instead of changing the oil filter at a routine service, tell the fitter to simply give it a good clean over with a rag. It will look like new, the punter won't know any difference and the garage will save 15 minutes obtaining the new filter from stores and fitting it, plus, of course, the cost of the filter.

  • Used Van Buying Guide: Astravan 2006-2013 20 Jan 2016 (News)
If they judder or knock the linkages will need replacing.    The Astravan sells on its good looks and its desirable, car-like driving character over any pretence of huge load carrying capacity. In comparison to its far more practical rivals it’s undeniably compromised, but it remains appealing despite this.

  • Used Van Buying Guide: Berlingo 2008-2016 22 Nov 2019 (News)
When we say robotised it’s more Metal Mickey in its shifts than HAL9000, it jerky enough to ensure you’ll need those bulkheads to stop loads shifting about.   Maintenance  on a  Citroen Berlingo Over time Citroen and all other van manufacturers are pushing servicing schedules ever further, but experts suggests that the Berlingo is worth visiting a garage every 12,000 miles or 12 months for an oil and filter change, any more  potentially leading to damage in the long run. A general service won’t break the bank, being around £100, a larger one about double that, depending on your garage’s labour rate, of course.

  • Used Van Buying Guide: Transit Connect 2014 - 2019 21 Nov 2019 (News)
Servicing should be every year or 10,000 miles and inexpensive 6000 mile six month interim services and inspections for drivers using their vehicles for short-drop urban driving are worthwhile. Pricing varies across the country, but most garages offer fixed price servicing. As an example an interim service should cost in the region of £120, a full service costing around £200-£250. A replacement battery fitted will be around £100, with an MoT around £40-£50.
  • The MOT Files: Cheap first cars 14 Aug 2012 (News)

  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 6-6-2015 6 Jun 2015 (News)
Six appeal I still have my 2001/51 reg Vauxhall Vectra V6 2.6 SRI, and my single concern is that the aircon had failed and needs a replacement compressor and condenser (around £1,000 including labour, etc.).  I Have found a good mechanic: Beckley Garage, Bookham, Which is always a bonus. (David fixed a handling issue I had been plagued with for over 2 years and which many other mechanics said didn't even exist.) Reasonable garage bills too.

    - direct replacement for Z4 and I love the aesthetics of the dashboard pleasing; retro in some way. Golf GTI - good all rounder, very practical, quick and good level of toys. Also like chequered seats but would want auto (is DSG a problem) and can you get it in 4-Motion? Audi TT - TFSI version and can get this is Quattro - dash is good but I worry about potential problems of DSG auto if fitted?

  • Classic Auctions in Surrey on 2nd and 15th June 1 Jun 2010 (News)
The straight-4 engine was bored out to 100mm to produce 4.4 litre of displacement.  This was good for 110hp in road-going models or 130hp when tweaked for racing.  Another claimed victory at the 24 Hours du  Mans in 1928 with drivers Woolf Barnato and Bernard Rubin at the wheel.  Meanwhile there was considerable debate within the Bentley boardroom and among the Bentley Boys about the next racing model.
