  • Cuban Cars ... 27 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Watching that James Bond tosh last night, with JB driving a 50's American monster in Cuba; do they still drive those old cars from the 30's and 50's out there, or are they allowed imports now ?!
  • Suzuki SX4 S-Cross - Suzuki -SX4 -S Cross -1.6 - motorway fuel economy? 22 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I understand that this is a common problem on cars that don't have 6th gears, as the engine is operating at much higher revs (almost 4000 rpm). I am consider buying an SX-4 S-Cross. Just wanted feedback on whether the 1.6 petrol S-Cross has the same problem. HJ's review and other review sites do mention that this engine needs to be worked hard, in order to make progress.
  • Jaguar S-Type (1999 - 2007) - S-type - good deal? 16 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I'm toying with a very late S-type diesel. The car I've seen is in sport guise, no chrome, very smart dark colour an cream leather inside - lovely! It's only 9 months old, about 13,000 miles, cost new about 30k. Now going for under 20k, it seems the XF has hit residuals of the S-type.
  • Mercedes 350 S Class saloon. - Mercedes s class experience 20 Jun 2016 (Forum)
However basic driving is a doddle and you don't feel to be taking up the whole road. Sadly for me the courtesy car company will soon collect their S class and give me the more usual hatchback. Still having the car for for Father's day was was excellent.
  • Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - Problem with new 2.2 tdci S-Max 2 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I suspect bodged mapping by Ford, when they tried to implement the single turbo conversion. Anyone else driven a 2.2tdci in an S-Max or Mondeo yet ? Experienced the same problem ?
  • S-Max to go same way as Signum 23 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Saw a new S-Max while passing my local Ford dealer today and it looks quite attractive, albeit they had a new Galaxy along side and I had to wonder why the front-end looks to be the same on both models? I would have thought this would dilute the image of the S-max somewhat.

  • Fuel comp self calibration? - Ford S-max 13 May 2007 (Forum)
Can you self-calibrate the fuel computer on a ford S-Max. Mine is about 15% optomistic and I know that you could self-calibrate the FC in the Mondeo's by using the two dials/steering wheel controls. If it can be done on an S-MAx, how? I know I can always deduct 15% off the claimed number but if it is easily fixable, I rather would.
  • 4x4's to be banned in.....Paris 15 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Yep, apparently it's true according to a radio news programme I heard this afternoon with a Labour MP - Paul Flynn ? - 4x4's will soon be banned from Paris! Given Red Ken's recent comments about 4x4's, I think if he gets re-elected there's a good chance he'll try the same tactic in London. Although I don't like them, slippery slope is a phrase which comes to mind.

  • Ford S-Max 2.0 Diesel Zetec 2007 - Trouble starting diesel S-Max 29 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Over the last couple of weeks it takes me two or three tries to start my aging S-Max. I'm wondering what the problem might be. It turns over but then fails to fire. Usually on the 2nd and recently more commonly 3rd try it starts. I've noticed that if I leave the ignition at the same position for the pre-heat thing for five extra seconds after the pre-heat light goes off, it appears to help.
  • 4X4's - Used 4X4's a little advice please... 5 Jun 2013 (Forum)
It appears that some Landrovers don't have the pulling power. I'd be grateful for some ideas on 4X4's i.e. not too heavy on the diesel, mileage, maintenance. Her budget is around £1.500.   Thanks :)
  • Ford S-MAX - Ford S-Max Steering Failure - low mileage 4 Aug 2010 (Forum)
The car had just ran out of it's 3yr warranty with only 26k miles on clock [Ford S-Max 2.0 TDCi Titanium (56 plate)].  I've heard similar stories that seem to point towards a faulty component but Ford Customer Services want nothing to do with it and will not assist financially.
  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 06 2.0 front wheel problems, possibly bearings. 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi there, I have a scenic 2.0 Turbo, recently, there has been a rumbling noise from the front end when moving. The N/S front wheel was being scrubbed on the outside. I swapped the two front wheels round N/S onto O/S and vice versa, as i believed that the scrubbing was being caused by a buckled alloy. Much to my annoyance, the N/S wheel, now with the O/S wheel on it, is scrubbing the same and there is no difference at all in the rumbling noise, i suspect a wheel bearing may be the culprit, any ideas?
  • That insurance ad 5 May 2003 (Forum)
Am I the only one who\'s driven nuts by the Direct line insurance ad? You know, chummy and girlfriend are driving in the beetle when she asks how much he\'s saved on renewing his car insurance. Ooh about 10%. That\'s a lot, you must have lots of spare cash, says she.
  • "Stupid car" it`s run down the hill on it`s own. 26 Jun 2009 (Forum)
So, given that it`s now becoming normal for cars to run away on hills when the brakes fail to hold - that seems to put more responsibility on car makers. So what`s the solution? How about a `sprag` that locks pins into the drums or discs on application of the handbrake - thereby removing the pressure/friction element out of handbrakes holding.
