  • Young Drivers Priced Out of Insurance 22 Oct 2004 (News)
Yet these same premium rates are not reflected in the Far East. In Bangkok, for example, an 18 - 20 year old driver driving a new 109PS 1.5 litre £10,000 car pays just £250 a year for comprehensive insurance which returns 90% of the original price of the car in the event of a total loss. It could be that statutory caps on the rates paid out for personal injury and death claims, and a complete overhaul of the ludicrously high rates paid for accident repairs, could reduce the price of insurance to a sensible level that makes it a viable proposition for the many of the 31% of young UK drivers who presently drive uninsured.

” (Well he had to say that, didn't he, because the motor industry is the only big industry Britain has left.) • Last of the Pre-Summer Bargains at Auction 17 Jul 2002 (News)
It was in lovely, fault-free condition, with just one owner, a mere 36,000 miles, a fully stamped-up service book and a filing cabinet full of bills to confirm everything. Bidding started quite high at £4,000 and romped to £5,750 at which the car sold. It will make someone very happy. New-shape Lagunas were apparently selling for spectacular money in the Renault Finance Section. A pair of high spec 2001/51 reg 2.0 Privilege hatchbacks with 6,250 and 4,700 miles sold for £11,900 and £11,800 respectively, presumably in an attempt to maintain a higher used price level for these cars than the Mondeos they’re up against.

  • Hidden Hero: Rover Metro GTi 16v 4 Oct 2019 (News)
The hype surrounding the relaunch of the Rover Metro in 1990 would have had the world believe it was an amazing new car, with multiple awards from patriotic publications and much made of the fact it had adopted the company’s new K-Series engine, which had debuted the previous year in the 214 hatch.  A lot of it was just that, though - hype.
  • Meguiars club showcase finalists revealed 11 Oct 2018 (News)
Rounding off the British contingent is Tom Morley’s amazingly original Austin Allegro, the charmingly compact Austin A35 of Heather Walsh, and a fine example of the ever-popular Triumph TR5 owned by Simon Eaton. No group of finalists would be complete without the world’s best-selling sports car which this year comes courtesy of Stephen Small’s Mazda MX-5. And we haven’t forgotten the USA. Barry Craven’s 1958 Chevrolet Impala is an attention-grabbing slice of classic Americana, and it will be joined by Phil Perry’s show-winning 1934 Ford Pick Up.
  • 'Built to last' to be theme of this year's NEC show 7 Jun 2018 (News)
There are also those vehicles that have been ‘built to last’ so that they can be passed down from generation to generation, undertake epic journeys and challenges, and even remain on the roads to this day – some with their original drivers. Dave Youngs, car club manager for show sponsor Lancaster Insurance, added, ‘The theme can be interpreted in many ways and gives great scope for exhibitors to really make it their own. I work with clubs on a daily basis and admire each enthusiasts’ contribution, ensuring that our classic car community stays vibrant for future generations to enjoy.’ As well as all the obvious ways the theme can be conveyed, the organisers have also come up with a few fun and family elements they hope to showcase too.

  • Fraudster jailed for £29,000 insurance scam involving fake Ferrari 4 Apr 2017 (News)
Suspicions surrounding the incident arose when Islam, who was already in a replacement hire car organised by his accomplice Abu Khayer, claimed for another hire car from a separate company.
