Service not done when told it would be 5 Jun 2008 (Forum)
When we was finalising the deal i said that as the car was due a service, i wanted a full service carried out on the car as part of the deal. The salesman kept banging on that as part of there 100 point check everything was changed bar the oil and oil filter, which he said he will get them to do. I asked him severel times what he thought was a full service, and he kept on blabbing on that it would be done. I said that i expected the oil,air and fuel filter to be changed, as well as the plugs and oil. -
BMW - Manufacturers taking note ? 1 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Interestingly, BMW in the USA have changed the recommended oil change intervals, no idea if they're doing so for other markets. The oil change is going to 10k miles. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=868293 Undoubtedly, they'd deny it had anything to do with the poor publicity they've had over the years, and all the timing chain problems, but a decent step, all the same, and here's hoping they bring it to all the other markets too ! -

Saxo oil pressure sender, not switch. 20 Feb 2005 (Forum)
A friend of mine wants to change from using an oil pressure switch, which controls a warning light,to using an oil pressure sender, which will control an electrical gauge,on his Saxo VTR autograss car. Has anyone on here done it,and if so,where is it possible to buy said sender? -
VW Passat 2008 Estate 1.9 - DIY Oil Change + Used Car Warranty 22 Apr 2013 (Forum)
However as the car has a turbo and I want to look after it, I would like to do my own oil change which I have done on other cars in the past. Would this technically (or otherwise) invalidate said warranty? I am using all genuine VAG Parts - oil filter is genuine, as is the Longlife Quantum III 507.00 spec oil. -
Fumoto oil drain valve with poor pics.. 15 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Well it looked a nice day today, and not blowing a gale as it usually is when i decide to perform an interim oil change. So oil change done, and at the same time i fitted the Fumoto quick drain valve which i bought last year. Hopefully this will make future oil changes much easier, as the normal sump bung manages to drip half the oil onto the cross member resulting in oil drips all over the place and an even bigger mess on the concrete (which has really suffered this winter) than i usually make. -

Oil Additives / Fuel Quality 30 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Do "in between change" oil additives have any real benefits? Is there any evidence whether different brands of fuels are of varying quality? I would particularly like to find some objective independent test results. -

Filter change tip 9 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Just thought I'd share a tip with those of you who regularly do their own oil & filter changes. (It may have been posted before, but I haven't checked). If your car has an oil filter that points downwards, e.g. the open end is lower than the covered end, it is difficult to get the filter out without spilling the oil it contains around the engine bay. -
dipstick Pump for oil changing ?? 16 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Please note I know that the best way is to undo the sump plug but I am unable to get under the car ('97 Tdi Golf ) and merely want to renew the oil & filter in between the VW dealers annual service. Follow HJ's advice very closely and it seems a filter & oil change every 6 months will not do any actual harm and hopefully allow the engine to do a few more miles. -
Another poorly Fiesta 1.1L 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)

Lidl Oil Suction Pump 16 May 2016 (Forum)
Up until today I've resisted the temptation to try the suction method come oil change time, in the belief that it can't be as good as removing the drain plug and letting gravity do it's thing. But today the Mrs dragged me into Lidl and I saw this: http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491.htm? -
Mazda 2 - New car to run in 20 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I have a new Mazda 2 1.3 petrol coming next week. I have looked at the running in for a petrol engine and keeping the standard oil until the first oil change. But was wondering if I could put in a straight mineral oil for say 4000 miles and build the revs with higher revs at times without loading the engine and then change to a full synth 5W-30. -
rover 214 - porous sump?? 15 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Took the 214 in for its MoT today - passed again first time, as of yet never failed one now which is not bad considering its on 115,000 all it gets is an oil change and a wash once a year. Anyway there is an advisory for a new sump as current one has gone porus - I assumed it was the sump plug leaking from last oil change. It really needs doing asap as tester recons it wont last much longer before dropping all of the oil.
