12v Plugin Bluetooth handsfree kits 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I don't usually make calls from my car, but I'm beginning to see the need, as I keep getting calls whilst I'm driving. This has happened recently as my work role has changed and I'm running a project on short timescales and people need to get hold of me. Now I don't want to break the law, so I need a handsfree kit. My phone is Bluetooth compatible, and I've used it with Bluetooth headsets, which frankly are useless due to their short battery life. -
Oh what to do: What do I buy next? 1 Mar 2007 (Forum)
But - with two small children (19 months and 8 months) and a large double buggy, what car does one purchase? My only criterion is that it needs to be: a. Diesel. b. Not a run-of-the-mill MPV - so please no Picasso, zafira etc.. c. less than 5years old - company car scheme d. Okay for taking onto building sites - not necessarily 4x4, but not a lowered hot hatch! Budget - hmmm - £10 - £15K Any ideas? -
radio interference from in-car electrics 27 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I've been meaning to ask for some ideas on this one for some time and now the festive run-down has set in at work, seems like a good opportunity... OK, Ford Focus LX (saloon- if relevant), 2001 tdi. [BTW, new to me this Autumn and had reservations about the ugly boot and the general boringness of it but actually found it to be superb in all respects (apart from below), I'm averaging nearly 470 miles a to tank of juice and the boot is actually really useful - much more space than the hatch I had before] Anyway, here's the issue; the radio seems to get bad interference whenever I use the wipers or the rear window demister. -
BMW 330i using the performance 20 Feb 2007 (Forum)
That leaves 4000 revs to play with!!! (legally of couse) The car has done 25k and as you would expect runs a smoothly as silk. I guess I'm being over cautious here but would appreciate any views on this as I want to have a bit of fun!! -
rover 620 sdi (1994), no throttle 1 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I have noticed a small white cylinder just hanging around the pump area, the cyclinder contains 1 female spade term, inal and has a red wire running to it, also its quite clean in comparison to everything else in that area. Is thgis the throttle control? I cant find anything to plug it into. Any help greatly appreciated. PS, I have primed the system and it does start (reluctantly though were it used to start straight off without glow plugs) -

Computer Related Questions - Volume 112 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
All was OK until around the third film when the playback started to judder - by this I mean it at first appears to run slow, but a careful look and listen shows it stops and starts. We've checked other DVDs which now juddder too, but other uses of the drive like CD back ups and reading data are OK. Music CDs judder too. -
Ford Focus TDCi poor starting 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Warm: Same sound as when warm but either turns then stops or turns and when it does start, sounds really rattly for a second then smooth out. When the car is running it's fine, no power issues or odd sounds and fuel economy is spot on. I would normally assume the battery was at fault in this situation but I have a friend who owns a Peugeot 1.9TD which sounds just as slow when turning over and he had a new battery. -
Very Loud Noise 25 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I was cautious lest it was an attempt to cause me to stop so that person or persons unknown could carry out a car-jacking. There was no obvious effect on the handling or running of the car, so I didn?t stop. My son had a similar incident a year ago when a group of children were throwing half bricks at cars and laughing like cretins when they hit one. Any ideas anyone ? -
Diesel waxing 14 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I filled the fuel tank (first fill since leaving the south) and stopped for lunch. When I set off again the engine was a little 'lumpy' for a while and then settled down to run as normal. There has not been any further misbehaviour. Was I suffering from waxing of the fuel? I have often heard of this term, but never personally experienced it. Thanks for any help -
Dvla muckup - license details AWOL 9 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The DVLA says it's not possible that the full license was ever issued. Does anyone know whether or not insurance companies run your license details when you're insured? Seems to me it'd be a pretty sizeable loophole if you can be insured without actually being licensed..? Any idea of another way to try to work out what the license details were? -
L driver cheaper insurance loophole? 15 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I've acquired a moped with a V5, for free. It doesn't run, but I think could be made to, but that 's incidental. My daugher will be 16 soon. I thought about getting a TP only policy for the moped, which will then give her a year's no claims bonus when she comes to drive for the first time a year later (we'll get her a cheapy banger in her name). -
Just bought Pug 106 1.5D 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Car seems to be in good shape and so is engine but I would like to make sure it stays the same in long run. Shall I change the cam belt on it and service it? I've a friend who could do the job for me so it won't be a great deal except parts. What else shall I replace and what's the best place to buy the parts from? -
renault clio idling problem/cutting out 8 Sep 2006 (Forum)
my daughters yreg clio 1.2 16v has done 30k and has a weird intermittent problem - it sometimes cuts out when slowing down at lights etc.there is an orange light comes on(electronic fault) and the car idling speeds up and slows down of its own accord.it also nearly stalls and if it does it wont start again for a while.this only happens when the light appears otherwise the car runs perfectly.it has happened 4 times in the last 2 weeks.we have had a diagnostic computer check done but the light wasnt on at the time and the garage couldnt find anything wrong.if the light appears can it be sorted by dipping the clutch and revving the engine?? -
Citroen ZX 1.8 8v - Idle/Starting Proble 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi Can anyone help with an intermmitent starting and idling problem on this car. The problems is that the car fires up and runs for a second or two before cutting out. Consistently try restarting and after 5 or 6 times the car idles. If you press the accelerator the engine dies. Can be overcome by letting engine idle for ~1min, then gently feathering the accelerator peddle until engine speed increases without cutting out. -
VW Polo Pierburg Choking 10 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I have blown all jets and holes through that I can see. I have spent hours on this and it is driving my nuts, the car is only worth £100 quid but it runs lovely. I have seen other forums say that Pierburgs are pants but it used to be perfect. Many thanks Kilotank -
Peugeot 306 1.9 TD DHY Conrod failure 3 Aug 2006 (Forum)
When I searched on the Internet for an engine to replace it, I found the Car-by-Car Breakdown telling that this failure was not unusual: "Spate of conrod failures on 1997 -1998 R and S reg 1.9 XUTD diesels; one case of a late reg T: too many to attribute merely to running with low oil levels. Seems only to affect cars built from April 1997 with DHY (not DHX) serial number engines" So I (or the garage) will have to find an engine without this fault. But I do not know which engines will fit my car. -
Chunnel to Brive (Dordogne) 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
In previous years we have stopped off at Le Mans (slow bits before now autoroute hopefully) and now nearly all autoroute to Limoges down. We have also stopped off at Orleans (too near on the way back) and spent hours running through Evreux and Dreux going down. I don't want to drive through Paris. I'm not sure that even the Peripherique is a good idea so we have gone via Rouen. Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks, Simon -
The deep joy of driving in France! 12 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Secondly, Norfolk Line. Nice little ships! They have obviously upgraded their fleet! Very comfy, well run, only £68 return (which was £100 cheaper than P&O/Sea France/Euro Tunnel for same times of travel) -
Nissan X-trail - stuttering 3 Apr 2006 (Forum)
It's just sod's law if they drive it and the engine decides to play up. The engine is a diesel and we are following HJ's running in guidance. Thanks. SVM
