Buying from Motorpoint - what to ask? 22 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Here are the questions I have thought of myself, what else should I not be missing off the list? * Is the car UK spec? * Has the car been serviced to manufacturer spec (for warranty) * Has the car been used as private hire? * Has the car been stolen/involved in an accident? * Are there any known faults/flaws with the car? -
Mercedes A Class ASSYST Problem 1 May 2002 (Forum)
The car indicated that it required a service after 12 months (6400 miles) and again after 24 months (12900 miles) After doing some research on the internet regarding the logic of the system (i.e how it works out service intervals) I discovered that the Mercedes Assyst system uses a timed service interval of 720 days or mileage as determined by Assyst (approx 10K on the A140) The car should request it first service at 10K or 24 months whichever occurs first. -
Suzuki Ignis Sport - Advice needed for air-con problem 5 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I have a Suzuki IGNIS 1.5 Sport (from april 2004), it's fine but I have been having problems with air-com from fairly early on. I am not mechanically-minded but I've had 5 cars with air con, and I know how to use it (at least once a week, followed by blast of hot air to kill bacterias). In 2008, I noticed that the air con did not work on the Ignis. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8 Revs to 3000 rpm then dies off 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Maybe worth a mention is the simply dismal fuel consumption...urban driving hardly returns 35 mpg...longer, gentle runs struggle to top 40. The car has also passed through the dreaded DMF saga, but the dealer not only repaired it under warranty, but after a couple of weeks also recalled us to fit a modification to ensure the fault does not return. -
Second hand diesels - misfuelled? 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
But, if I owned a diesel, and accidentally put petrol in it, I suppose the first move would be to sell it asap. Is there any way of telling whether a car has been misfuelled? If it has - and has been drained etc so that it runs again, what are the likely long term effects on reliability? Is it likely to pack up within months, where there might be some warranty left, or might it take a year or two to die? -
2nd Hand Chrysler Voyager, advice sort 7 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I recently bought a Chrysler Voyager from the Dealer above {Note: Name now removed - DD} over the 'net, And I have had no end of problems trying to get it sorted, The car wasnt as it was described and there are faults the dealer is trying to push onto the warranty people, and they are not having any of it. I emailed the owner the first day and all ive had is excuses, now he is trying to say fair use for age and price - I paid £9450 for a 98k Limited edition that he described as "immaculate", tears in seats , parts missing/ scratches on panels, gears crunching, bonnet cable snapped, aircon not working, etc.etc.. -
How Cold is Cold? 26 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I have also noted that some contributors have run their systems to being 'uncomfortably cold'. With the recent spell of warm (if not hot)North Wales weather, I have been using the AC by comfort choice and not for routine and the car does not become very cold: just chilled. Can anyone advise if this about right or whether I need to get it fixed whilst still under warranty. -
Parted with money 9 Jan 2022 (Forum)
With much reluctance I have finally parted with my hard earned and purchased another car. Swmbo was angling for a new model Volvo XC60 at £25k upwards but after a bit of effort I managed to find a cheaper option that satisfied her need to lord it over others on the road. I bought an approved used 2015 Volvo XC60 D5 auto with all the toys, 44,000 miles, a full Volvo history and in spotless condition inside and out. -

Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 1.9 dCi Grand Scenic - multiple faults 27 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Had a nightmare with my 54 reg car over the last year and won't bore anyone with it now. Details on Parkers!!! I have had a turbo blow, replaced, second one damaged and knackered engine. Extended warranty refused to pay as wear and tear, but on all 17 visits to the garage not once was EGR or CAT checked. -
VW clutch burnout in 2.5yo golf 16 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I lost all transmission and the clutch peddle stayed depressed until the engine was switched off, which was also the only way to change gear. Called VW roadside assistance and they took me off to get a hire car and had the car transported to a small local VW garage, which have become the most utterly obtrusive people I have ever had the misfortune to meet. Basically, the clutch burn out did not fall under any of the warranties and they said if I wanted to sort that out, I'd have to get my home garage to contact them and so I ended up being a go between for the whole day. -
What to do! 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Put one or both of them as named drivers on my comprehensive insurance. 2) Sell it before I go. (what are the implications re. NCD on not having car/insurance for a year? I've got 10 years NC at the mo.) When I bought new I was intending to keep it for at least 5 years but because I'm not going to be here I'm not sure it's worth the hassle of sorting out insurance/servicing on a car I'm not going to be using for a year (and the money from the sale will be handy). -
A trivial question about air con. 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Therefore the question is, is it not a good idea to park on idle with the front wheels other than straight in the sense the power steering is working to no result? I\'ve had more air-conned cars over the years than my secretary used to get ladders in her tights and I haven\'t come across this one before. -
and the winner is ... 8 Mar 2003 (Forum)
... the 1999 Passat TDi Sport I picked up today. As mentioned elsewhere, the trade-in was my Clio dci plus £1100 in exchange for the approved-used Passat with 90k miles, which came with a full tank, 12 month MOT, full service and a 12 month warranty which covers fuel pump/injectors, electrics, etc. Crucially, they replaced the CV joints as well, so that particular VAG problem shouldn't affect me. -
Hyundia Sante Fe SE 2015 Decemeber 14k miles one - TPMS and 4 wheel tracking, 2 questions 18 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Hello I have the above car, 2 questions please. The warning light came on the tpms a couple of weeks ago and now two more. I will phone the car makers re warranty but doubt if the tpms is included as it appears the battery have run out. -
Volkswagen Touran - PDI on new car 24 Aug 2019 (Forum)
The chain that I bought the car from do have VW franchises but this was from a Volvo dealership so not part of the Das Welt approved used program. -
Skoda Rapid Spaceback - Dealership is talking rubbish 27 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I would actually prefer to use a different word for them. Ongoing issues with the coolant levels in my 2 year old car. After a service last month the coolant light came on. Checked and it was below minimum level. -
2012 Peugeot 508 sw allure - Advice needed - buyers remorse or legitimate claim 14 Apr 2017 (Forum)
I bought it - it had a full service history and 12 months MOT, however (regrettably) I didn't clarify any warranty, Since using the car more regularly two faults quickly appeared - 1. air con not working - I had it regassed, but that quickly leaked due to a split pipe which has now been sorted and regassed again (total bill £125). -
various - VAG CR diesel maintenance costs 23 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Over 10 years these engines and their exhaust systems should require about £5,000 less work than the diesels." I'm looking for a new car, which I intend to own for at least 7 years, hopefully 10yrs if it proves reliable and hard-wearing. Various VAG cars are on the shortlist VW website claims that the DPF's on their latest diesels "last the lifetime of the car", which I assume is 12 years, based on VW corrosion warranty. -
2000 honda civic 1.4 5door - exhaust fitting problem 18 Apr 2010 (Forum)
after some help from backroomers,i took my car into budget to have the exhaust center section replaced , it was replaced and i took the car away this was two weeks ago , over the next few days i noticed a exhaust blow start to appear, i took it back to the same branch and spoke to the guy who had carried out the work,he put it up on the ramp and we both checked the exhaust and agreed it was blowing on the front joint were it bolts onto the cat,he said to give him 20 minutes and it would be sorted,i arrived back 30 minutes later he told me it was a faulty gasket and that it was all sorted i drove the car away it sounded ok, today while driving the car the blowing noise has returned,i really have lost all faith in budget now and having used them for years after kwik fit failed to comply to a warranty claim, i cant find a customer helpline number listed for budget and really dont want to deal with my local branch again, also i have heard a rumour saying that kwik fit own budget, which in my opinion if true would explain the downturn in customer care and satisfaction
