  • Ford Fiesta - 2005 fiesta overheating - temp gauge normal 26 Oct 2024 (Forum)
The thing is the tempature gauge shows normal when the coolant tank is bubbling up and steam coming from it. Shouldn't the tempature gauge show that the engine is overheating if it was this fuse? So I'm wondering if I'm going down the right lines with looking at the fuses?
  • Vauxhall Insignia - Engine oil type 18 Jun 2020 (Forum)
It appears it does it at will as there's no pattern to it. A side that is yet to be resolved is a coolant leak (been on a pressure test for 2 hours without finding a leak) which needs topped up as only half full and I think (will double-check later tonight) the engine oil needs topped up. Could the coolant and/or the possible requirement of engine oil cause the stuttering?

  • Ford Focus 2008 1.6tdci 110ps - Bleeding the cooling sistem on 1.6 tdci 110ps 4 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Egr works fine, the signal is ok and as a last solution before taking the cable step by step to check if the wiring is at fault, I've taken the EGR piping and radiator down and gave it a good cleaning. EGR gases on this model are liquid cooled using the engine coolant and by removing the egr radiator I've lost some coolant. Now that I have toped it off to the max level some air came out but in order to "corectly"bleed the sistem most cars have a bleeder valve wich I have not managed to locate on my car.

  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol - vauxhall astra radiator fan not kicking in 14 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Since I bought it a month ago, it had Engine cooling light ON, the Yellow light with a fan over a Radiator. I thought it would be a matter of just topping up the coolant but it was something more than that. Neither the Radiator fan nor the Aircon fan kicks in no matter what you do. Luckily the car does not heat up during normal driving; it’s only at idle that the car heats up till the coolant is sprayed all over, suppose the air striking the radiator while driving cools it down.
  • Hyundai Terracan - Hyundai Terracan Overheating 5 Mar 2012 (Forum)
It has been suggested that it might be a blown head gasket or cracked engine block - but will be a very expensive job to check/repair. (There is no emulsion in the coolant). Any other ideas or thoughts on what this might be?
  • Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 99 1.3 Overheating, think its the water pump 28 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The light works ok as it tests at start up. The radiator fan does not come on either but does when I unplug the wiring on the coolant temp sensor. I have bled system, checked thermostat and checked for any blockages and fitted new temp sensor and no change. I am now thinking maybe the water isn't passing the coolant temp sensor and the problem is the water pump.
  • BMW 325 ci (2002) - overheating woes 23 Mar 2010 (Forum)
i am thinking along the lines of relay, wiring or thermoswitch causing this fault. what would be the most likely reason why the fan keeps failing and how can it be tested?   it should be noted that the expansion tank has split letting the coolant out. i am not sure if this related, but the overheating probably caused the expansion tank to split with the over-hot coolant. thanks for any thoughts
  • Peugeot 407 SW (2004 - ) - 04 2.0 HDi Overheated 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi The coolant bypass hose on my 54 reg 2.0 HDI burst and caused the engine to overheat and go into limp mode. I managed to replace the hose but when i have refilled the coolant and run the engine I cant get rid of the air bubbles, plus if i top up when cold it justs blows out the expansion bottle as soon as I start the engine.
  • Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.6i boiling in expansion tank 2 Aug 2009 (Forum)
hi all, i wondered if any one could shed light on this ; my 97 rover 216 sli is boiling over in the expansion tank. i have replaced the head gasket, thermostat, coolant temp fan switch, and have bled the cooling system to get rid of air locks, i have removed the ball bearing in the inlet manifold as advised, they is no oil mixed with the coolant, they is no steam coming from the exhast, no leaks anywhere. fan kicks in as it should. the heater is blowing warm air but when i turn it to cold the expantion tank fills up and boils over, the temp gauge dose not seem to move above half way. ????

  • Dealer rip off or common sense ? 22 Oct 2006 (Forum)
When I had the car all servicing was done by the book and the tab picked up by the lease company. Now it's in private hands BiL has carried on the credo of FDSH down to the recent coolant and brake fluid (he's a flyer so a bit....well you know). Now is this a rip off or sensible line to follow. I have never changed brake fluid on a vehicle I've actually owned, but been "sensible" with coolant (you know checking it, making sure any top up is to proper spec).
  • Fiesta '96(P) No heating / cold air only 8 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Every now and then you get a blast of luke warm air but most of the time they are just cold. I have just renewed the anti-freeze and the coolant level is fine but it was doing this before I changed the coolant anyway. The engine temperature always runs somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of the way up the guage so I am assuming this is OK. Does anyone have any ideas?
  • A4 TDI pours out smoke at idle 2 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Afterwards it started to smoke (white/blue) heavily when idling - v. noticeable in traffic queues, cars behind would back off! There's strong 'sooty' smell but no loss of coolant or oil, performance is unaffected and fuel economy hasn't suffered; the car drives normally. The headgasket was replaced last year (due to coolant loss) c/w valve stem oil seals done at the time and again since.
  • Another waterworks problem - Maestro TD 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
In the last few months I?ve noticed that the coolant hoses on my wife?s Maestro TD are still pressurised after standing overnight. Opening the rad cap and the air blows out. I replaced the radiator cap with no improvement. The engine is running perfectly including the heater.
  • Cooling System Prob / Head Gasket 14 Jan 2003 (Forum)
The Head gasket went on my 1994 Ford Granada (2 Litre DOHC) last week. One of the things I nothiced was the coolant system was pressurising. I just finished replacing the head gasket (after many hours of swearing at the thing) and the coolant system is still pressurising, (even when cold). The head gasket had gone between the water jacket, a piston and the outside of the block.
