  Colin Peck has been collecting, restoring and writing about classic cars for almost 30 years. He has been involved with a number of car clubs for makes as diverse as Mercedes-Benz and Checker cabs, but it was while living in the US in the early 1990s that he renewed his involvement with old Austins, buying and acquiring a 1954 Austin convertible. He restored the car in the UK and later acquired a 1950 Austin Woodie from Canada, which he also restored.

  One of only 505 1989 BMW E30 M3 Johnny Cecotto Ltd Editions with less than 18,000 miles sold for £85,500. A 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300SL finished in Thistle Green soon followed, selling for £28,688. The newest car in the collection, a 2015 Porsche 911 (991) Targa 4S sold for £79,875, with a 1967 Ford Mustang 390GT Fastback 'Bullitt' sold for £54,000.

  The Lexus NX is the worst performer overall, achieving a pitiful 65 per cent average of its official MPG figure. The Land Rover Discovery Sport is the second worst – 65.1 per cent – while the Mercedes-Benz SLK is third with a disappointing average of 67.2 per cent. Real MPG  invited car owners to submit how many miles their cars actually do to the gallon, covering all major makes and models.

  You’d be hard-pressed to tell that the stunning Rapport Forté was based on the Jaguar XJ… Long before the likes of the Mercedes-Benz SLK and Peugeot 206CC had even been imagined, Chris Humberstone had developed this, the first sports car with a fully retractable hard top. Humberstone stated that, ‘once it was refined it worked very well and gave a real feeling of saloon car integrity.’ A sophisticated electro-hydraulic system was employed to stow the aluminium and steel roof within the boot space and, as if that wasn’t enough, the roof panel also featured its own electrically-operated ‘moonroof’.
