I saw a morris ital this morning while l was out driving.this got me thinking that next week my son will be six. i remember when i was that age BL was a mass producer of cars in the 70's and looking back at them imho they were all a load of rubbish allegro, princess marina,TR 7 the only one i would duff my cap to would be the 3.5 v8 sd1 not cause of the car but the fine engine.my dad back then had a mk1 cortina which to me wasnt a bad car neither was the escort and vauxhall never made a car as bad as BL so my question is what car maker today will be looked back at in 30yrs time as turning out carp like BL did. -
Honda Civic UK (2001 - 2005) - 2003 1.4 Creaking noise 15 May 2008 (Forum)
I have a 1.4 inspire s that is making a creaking noise occasionally when I pull away or when I am accelerating. The creak occurs typically when I am doing below 3000 rpm. The creaking noise is not constant and happens infrequently. -
Ferrari F149 California (2009 - ) - New Ferrari 14 May 2008 (Forum)
Reminds me of the hours I spent with goosebumps on my neck listening to Mark Hales giving Nick Mason's F40 the absolute treatment round Donington on a free audio cassette with Fast Lane magazine back in the 80's. Some of the "drive by" clips were astonishing with the thing echoing off the armco. Barely silenced at all. Just heavenly. It's nice to hear they're still managing to retain the magic in spite of the EU noise regs. -
Volvo puts foot in it 9 May 2008 (Forum)
A German court has ruled car maker Volvo has to pay compensation to a man who claimed his feet were too big to use the accelerator on his new car. A judge said the car makers should have catered for Michael Herzog?s size 12 feet. The court ruled his feet were not abnormally large and the judge said the dealer should give the German five per cent off the price of his new car. Under a court-supervised settlement, Herzog obtained a £1,350 refund to pay for a specially made pair of shoes that allowed him to squeeze his foot into the space. -
Too Good To Be True? 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I don't want to post the ad because it might be completely genuine but the basic details are that the car is coming up to its 3rd birthday but has the mileage you might expect on its 10th birthday. It?s has full MB service history. I?ve told the friend to contact the dealer who carried out the servicing and, when they look at the car tonight, to note the VIN on the body and the engine (any pointers to where these might be on an A-Class?) -

I want to exchange it for a Suzuki Swift. What's the best way of doing so and how much do you reckon I'll get for it? It's a 16v S 90 A/C 56 plate. Thanks {subject header altered to make less vague} -
Selling safely 24 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I will ask their bank to confirm that payment will be honoured (something the Scottish banking system permits but the English one doesn?t.) That commits the bank to the transaction. I haven?t had the car HPI checked and it?s possible that a potential buyer may wish to do this early in the process. What would be the appropriate response to a request for the registration mark/VIN in order to have this carried out? Should I get an HPI check done myself? -
Volvo S70/V70 (1996 - 2000) - 98 V70 T5 erratic idle and stall fault a mystery 10 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I really need some advice or help here. The car is an S-Reg Volvo V70 T5 and when the engine is switched on it idles at between 2,000 rpm and 3,500 rpm. It is consistently revving up and down between the rpm I just mentioned. When I put my foot on the accelerator so as to drive it, it just stalls. -
Clean sheet car designs. 27 Feb 2008 (Forum)
A few I can think of are the Rover P6 2000 of 1963, the Hillman Imp from around the same time and the Citroen GS of the early 70's. Another obvious one is the VW Beetle. Presumably the Bugatti Veyron is was an all-new design too, even if its W16 engine is loosely based on 2 Audi V8s. I think the Mercedes A-class and the Smart owed nothing to previous designs. -

Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - Value Question 6 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Our company buys our cars outright so no leasing deals to consider, just the value of my car set against the cost of a new one. It is a 2005 / 05 plate Volvo S60 S D5. No extras other than the metalic Magic Blue paint. 81,000 miles on the clock, very good condition and a full service history. Many thanks for your help folks. -
Insuring second car for under 21 driver 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
His only option seems to be insure the car as his own (second car) then cancel the insurance when the car is delivered....which seems rather stupid (from insurace company point of view) and not sure if insurance companies will let him do this anyway without a penalty. Any suggestions? thanks S. As it is a surprise his mother must know nothing about it...so difficult to insure under her name... -
SEAT Leon II (2005 - ) - 1.6 Stylance opinions please 9 Jan 2008 (Forum)

Volvo S40/V40 (1996 - 2004) - 1.9D Cambelt 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Hi, My wife?s car has just suffered a cam belt failure, which the local-ish Volvo dealer has said has caused major damage. What's worrying me is that the car only has 61K miles on the clock, has always been maintained by Volvo dealer, has belt changed at 50K service, per Volvo recommendation. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - R reg - 1.25 - EGR valve 23 Dec 2007 (Forum)
i have recently changed my engine in my R reg Fiesta mk 4. i have dropped in a 1.25 zetec s the same as what was in before, the only difference bieng that it has an egr valve which my original engine did not, therefore i need to do something with it. i have been given two opinions as to what to do 1) put a piece of tubing between the two pipes creating a flow around bypassing what im told is a sensor or 2) Block it off??? -
Audi A4 B7 (2005 - 2008) - Want an Audi A4 - But when? 21 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Mileage is now just over 50k and before it gets stupidly high i want a change... Leading to my next choice, a facelifted version of the A4 2.0 TDI S-Line! I really like the car but i know there is a new model out soon. I'm unsure whether to wait and see what kind of price difference there is once that hits the market. And will there be more choice after this is released as current owners will p/x there older models? -
MINI - Say I want a MINI, but..... 14 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I was a passenger in the MINI Cooper S (Mk 1 - 2006 version) this weekend. I have read all the problems and complaints about the car, but you can't deny that it is a fancy vehicle with lots of style. I also found that despite being low, it was easy to get into and out of - something which I think is a major plus for me. -
How much power do you want and why? 26 Oct 2007 (Forum)
For me, I`m happy with little, contrasted with todays cars. Why? Well my first `car`was an 850cc Mini van back in the 60`s. You were really aware of hills and Shap fell on the M6 used to really take the speed off. I can remember years of climbing the M62 eastbound over the pennines at 40MPH in 3rd gear. Of course all that is forgotten about these days with modern cars, but i was reminded of it reading a forum on LDV (old post office) vans. -
Toyota Auris (2007 - ) - Chugging noise 5 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I also noticed a high tapping sound like stone on stone which gets faster as the wheels turn and wonder if that is a stone trapped in the tread of the tyre - but thought i'd mention it if the 2 were related :s Any ideas? re-located into Technical, Make and Model etc would help if only to classify - PU
