  • Replacing tyre on a Golf VR6 25 Mar 2001 (Forum)
The Firestone Firehawk 690s (205x50) have worn out on the front of my late 1996 VW Golf VR6 after 17500 miles of gentle driving. Any opinions and recommendations on replacements? I'd like to get a few more miles out of the next lot and am leaning towards Michelin again, but am open to other ideas. Looks like we'll be keeping this wonderful car for the 10 years I originally envisaged, if not longer.
  • One-eyed cars 2 Mar 2001 (Forum)
I don't think I am mistaken, but there seem to be lots of cars with only one working dipped headlamp these days. In two evening drives recently of about 30 mins. each, I totted up 9 one-eyed cars, and this was only on averagely busy roads. I guess about 1 car in every 30-40. Does this mean lax MoT testing, poorer-quality halogen bulbs, careless owners, or what?
  • Ford Focus Auto's 19 Nov 2000 (Forum)
I was intending to get a model year 2000 one via Ford Direct, I have now read that they had a lot of problems with the auto box, which came from Mazda. What is the situation now. Has anybody experience of them. I am to take a test drive in one this week, a feb 2000 registration, I won't take this one until I find out what's going on, It's also the wrong colour. Regards
  • Ford C-MAX - C-Max 2016 - 1.5 TDCI, 1.0 Ecoboost or 1.6 Ti-VCT 24 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Cons- I'm afraid of the DPF regeneration. My current car doesn't have it, I don't know if driving on the motorway on weekends will regenerate properly or will drive me mad.   1.0 Ecoboost 125HP? I think there is some other version of power, but honestly, the power or tri-cylinder I don't care a bit if it takes me from A to B.
  • Ford Focus - Faulty Car (Small Claims Court or Not) 21 Aug 2018 (Forum)
He told me he was a trader and the car was faultless and he wouldn’t sell a car with any issues, I asked him this in writing a few times and he told me he wouldn’t make me drive 35 miles to a car with issues. I didn’t notice any faults with the vehicle at time of purchase although the individual did Limited our test drive distance by one having zero fuel and secondly telling me where to drive to and back.
  • Another 'help me choose' thread 27 Feb 2016 (Forum)
On the other hand, as most of my mileage is done alone, the thought of run-flat tyres on the BMW appeals versus being stranded on a dark, wet roadside with a can of slime.   I'm not interested in badges per se, but a quality interior and overall driving experience does appeal.  In essence, if this was my only chance in life to own and drive a BMW, would I have missed anything at all in passing up the opportunity? Is 'Ultimate Driving Machine' all hype, or is there a degree of substance to it?
  • Citroen DS3 - DS3 Xenon Full LED H/L, a Dazzling Fashion Icon ! 19 Sep 2014 (Forum)
    8)  Either way you and your team need to take responsibility for what you create - granted, we would all like to be able to see our path ahead clearly and to see round the corner as well, so that we can drive briskly but safely under all night time driving conditions but to actually deliberately set out to 'blind' any oncoming driver in a less well equipped car is positively unacceptable. 9)  I trust that others will notice and comment in a similar vein about this most disturbing advert and that as a responsible car manufacturer with an almost unmatched auto mobile heritage, you will take all necessary actions to remedy the situation.
  • NEVS 9-3 is up for testing! - Saab 27 Feb 2014 (Forum)
February 27, 2014 in Fan Stuff , NEVS <*** class=" wp-image-53205 alignright" src="http://www.saabsunited.com/wp-content/uploads/FH-355-820x546.jpg" alt="FH-355" width="410" height="273" />This week three Swedish car-magazines has visited Trollhätttan for a test-drive of the 2014 9-3 Aero. As we all already know it’s basically a 2012 9-3 Griffin Aero with the two-litre Turbo4 220hp petrol-engine, but with some changes by NEVS. All the three magazines had put a little sneak peek from the test-drive on their websites, and I will here sum up the most important from the sneak peeks.
  • Road deaths on increase 23 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Transport Committee data proves that this age group is the most vulnerable, and its education – or lack there of – that’s to blame. Drivers aren’t taught to drive these days, they’re taught to pass their driving test. It was the same for me. Young motorists aren’t drilled as to the importance of knowing how to drive to the conditions – speed might be indirectly related here, but it’s arguably not gratuitous use of it.

  • Access to turn round 9 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I do not hold out much hope of him changing, as I am positive that he has checked the legal position and he has placed the gates there to prevent this part of his drive from being used to turn around in. This is his land so of course he can do what he likes. My concern is that there will be an accident by trying to back out onto a main road with limited visibility, I have nearly been hit from behind when accessing the main road again due to lack of visiblity last weekend and this was driving out forwards.
  • Big Brother Speed Limiters 10 Apr 2003 (Forum)
In the new project, some 80 drivers will be monitored in sessions lasting six months easch ? checking their driving for a month before the limiter is switched on, for four months while it is on and then for one month without it. Professor Carsten said: ?We want to assess whether the system changes people?s driving habits.?

  • Which vehicle should i go for ? 22 Feb 2025 (Forum)
Out of  Skoda Octavia vrs , Ford Transit crew van and VW transporter kombi which one would you recommend buying ? My budget is £17k  It needs to be automatic as my partner will be driving it. She passed her test with an automatic car so can only drive automatics! We have 2 kids and love to go camping and thinking of doing a european tour this year so we need something with a big boot and also ULEZ compliant.
  • Vauxhall VXR8 - Bought a broken car help 10 Oct 2024 (Forum)
I bought a V8 car from a performance garage in March which cost 30k. I traded my previous car in and put 10k cash towards it. Driving the car home (3 hour journey) I noticed problems with it, engine noises and error codes. When I got back I rang the garage and they arranged to pick it back up. Turned out the engine was faulty and needed a new piston.
  • Suzuki Vitara - Suzuki Vitara steering not self centre 23 Jun 2024 (Forum)
Hi, I have been driving my 2019 Suzuki Vitara 1.4T all grip auto for just over a year. I noticed that my car's steering wheel would not self centre but off 5-10 degree left or right after turning the steering wheel left or right.
  • Suzuki SX4 S-Cross - N/A or 3 Cylinder Turbo? 15 May 2024 (Forum)
l know it's a case of test driving however, l would be interested in peoples opinion. The SX4 S-Cross is a car, on paper, l like. It's not full of technology & seems to have a overall good reputation. Like others, these days l'm not willing to shell out too much on a car & want to keep things relatively simple. l don't want the complications of the Allgrip 4 wheel drive in the later 1.4, so that leaves the older N/A 1.6 & the 1 litre Boosterjet.
  • Renault Clio E-tech hybrid - Impressions after the first 1000 miles 21 Apr 2024 (Forum)
There's plenty of power for overtaking tractors and horse boxes, with good fuel economy too. I am getting around 55mpg driving in a semi rural area doing mainly short journeys. Renault say that the maximum distance the car will travel in EV mode is under 2 miles. The 1.2kW traction battery is charged when decelerating or braking, there is no facility to plug into the mains.
  • BMW and all. - Hydraulic Steering / Buying a Real Car 16 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Far too light, not responsive and no feedback at all.  I was told it has EPS, so I looked this up and felt very sad. "Ultimate driving experience" ?  Nope, that wasn't it.  It was slow, lethargic, docile.  If a car could have a labotomy it would describe this car perfectly.  The car was generally unresponsive and dull.
  • Toyota Yaris - Should I buy a Toyota Yaris hybrid (2020-present)? 6 Apr 2024 (Forum)
However, now onto my concern is the battery issues which I’ve read online, it seems to be common. I drive twice a week usually. I am not sure if hybrid would be the right choice especially since I don’t drive often and I do not know if this will degrade the battery. But I like Yaris for its reliability and safety car.
