I couldn't get onto the site, this week, but it'll be another useful pre-purchase check one day. www.motinfo.gov.uk I've also discovered a brilliant device for checking whether there are any Trouble Codes stored in your car's on-board computer.

The cheapest car I actually saw sell was a 97k mile 2001Y Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6SX in respectable shape for £325.   I guess the message of the day is that while you’ll be paying more for your replacement car, you’ll be getting less for your leggy part-exchange.

    At low borrowing rates, the financial institutions that own most fleet cars can afford to hang on to them until prices almost inevitably rise in January when the oracles predict there will be a shortage of good used cars.   Right now, traders are buying to sell now, so it’s a bit of a stand-off against the fleets, who are letting some cars go, but holding on to others.

  Now that realism is finally permeating dealer groups, fleets and private vendors, cars are selling again at auction, but at much lower levels than anyone would have predicted a year ago. The SLK in the photo was a 97P, so eleven years old, and had done 111k miles, but £3,650 is unheard of money for these cars.
