  • 1.0 R Reg Corsa cutting out 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi all Just been driving down the M57 and my Corsa suddenly cut out. I managed to get it off the motorway and towed home. I can start it and it will run for about 5-10 seconds and then I hear a click from behind the passenger side dash and immediately the engine management light will come on and it will cut out again.
  • VW Bora - emissions warning light 24 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Exhaust emissions warning light came on a few months back, battery cut out, car wouldn't start, and after being towed to a local garage, spent 4 weeks there before they told me that it was all down to a corroded wire. Same light came on a couple of days ago after I went over a particularly vicious speed bump. -Should I assume it's the same problem or something more serious??
  • vectra di power loss 9 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I have a 1997 Vectra 2l di 130k, the problem is that lately the brakes have gone spongey at the pedal, feeling very vague, and after a few seconds slowly head for the floor,as if i am loosing fluid or have a knackered servo, but have no fluid loss,at the same time the engine is as dead as a door nail, nearly 50% down on power, this problem would come and go, but now it is aways there, and feels like i am towing a bus everywhere,,,,can anyone help, before all my hair is pulled out.. {No need to SHOUT!! Which by typing soley in upper case is effectively what you were doing. Duly edited. DD} ;o)
  • Ford Courier 1.8D dead as a doornail 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
This van has basically given up on me - over the last couple of days it would sometimes not turn over when the key was turned. Eventually it refused to turn over at all. Attempts at jump starting failed completely, only a tow start got it going again. First thought was a dead battery, as the battery light would display curious behaviour - it came on with the ignition turned on, but would then immediately go out until the glow-plug circuit had switched off, and then it would come on again (very faintly until I recharged it).
  • Omega - good bet ? and which one ? 23 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Two questions for you in the know : (a) IF I go for one, which engine represents best value and (b) will it give me relatively trouble-free cheap motoring a la Carina ? My requirements are plenty of room (family of five), ability to tow trailers all over Europe, good Motorway runner and I like lots of bells & whistles on. Any advice appreciated Cheers
  • Burnt out loom? 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I have a thread going on this and the problems i have had with my current dealings with alfa. The RAC engineer when he towed the car away said if its a burnt out loom that alfa may write the car off! Its only done 3,000 miles,so is he winding me up,or is what he says a possibility? I have no idea re electrics, engines etc, i just drive cars and need to daily, which ironically is one of the reasons i bought a new one!
  • Radiator for 1.4 CVH Fiesta 6 May 2003 (Forum)
Hi, My son has taken the kids' Fiesta (1991 1.4 CVH) to London (I live in the Midlands) and the radiator has perforated. He was towed to his flat by the AA and the guy kindly removed the rad telling him you can fit a new one yourself. What the lad didn't realise is that there appears to be more than one rad fitted to this car. Or is there?
  • Easiest Sale Ever 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I've just sold my wifes Fiesta in a private sale. Chap turned up with other half in tow (in the fading light). He admitted straight away he knew nothing about cars. Then asked me to drive him to the end of the road and back. On our return, he promptly gave me the asking price with no attempt to haggle whatsoever.
  • Cash for Pug help please 21 Jan 2003 (Forum)
The car is a June 99 'early facelift' Peugeot 406 estate, 1.8L (base model) petrol, aircon, abs, fsh, 70K miles, not had a cambelt change, been used for towing caravan since new, original clutch OK but bearing squeals occasionally, interior and exterior pretty good. All figures appreciated; thanks in anticipation. (advice 'don't buy it!' understandable) Mark

And then there are the ones -without- Citroen main dealer FSH... Terry B are you there? How did your XM survive transcontinental caravan towing? Any comments on what makes auto boxes generally live longer, (and what are the signs of illness) much appreciated. rg
  • General views on Honda HR-V 27 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I'd like someting which (1) above all, will be reliable over, say, 8 years / 80K miles with excellent build quality; (2) can cope with the ever-deteriorating roads (i.e. not too fussed about potholes); (3) has boot space like an estate car, but offers higher driving position (4) has reasonable running costs - insurance, service, mpg etc. Performance not too important (other car gives the thrills); won't be used off-road, nor for towing. Any advice, please?

  • Jeep Cherokee (2002 - 2007) - 05 2.8 Torque converter recall woes. 4 Dec 2009 (Forum)
After using the vehicle for less than 200 miles the transmission temp warning light came on and the vehicle remained locked in second. I had the vehicle towed to my dealer, and the service personnel verbally agreed it was probably something to do with the recall work. They contacted Jeep UK who were most unsympathetic and who consider it quite normal for a 40,000 mile gearbox (never done any towing) to fail.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 00 2.0 HDi Aux Belt Removed, Cannot Start! 23 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Last week it rained buckets, and my Aux belt started to slip, and I saw the battery light more and more. Eventually, the car lost power, stopped and refused to start again. I got a tow home, on the way I tried starting again under tow, and got it to start for a second then it died again. Got it home and saw that the auxillary belt was not straight on the crankshaft pulley - was about one rib rubbing against the timing belt cover.
  • Vectra 2.0 Di New injector pump.... 15 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Once stopped it had to be left several minutes before it would restart. AA were called, he thought it was a blockage in the fuel line and towed me home. His reasoning was when unscrewing the bleed on the fuel filter he could hear air rushing into the vacuum formed by the engine trying to draw fuel, and that it started and ran for a short time after he opened the bleed on the filter.
  • Transit van camper - Pre purchase inspection 20 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Needing brake down recovery and major mechanical work every time. Presently broken down on a roundabout in France waiting for another tow truck. He is cutting his holiday short and trying to make his way back to the uk. As he can't afford anymore repairs. What steps should he take when he gets there? Thanks for any advice given.  Regards Shaun
  • Renault - Should I trust Renault? 21 Jul 2024 (Forum)
The garage is mucking us around but that's probably just our garage My question is has any one else experienced this with a Renault? Is it a common problem and therefore should I look elsewhere next time We do tow a small caravan but that shouldn't be a problem Any thoughts gratefully received Thanks
  • Mazda 3 - 3x faults on car bought 3 months ago 11 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Week after purchase engine management light came on - went back and was fixed.  Month later belt went xar not driveable and was towed to dealer and fixed. No clutch has gone. Presume they will try to say not covered under warranty as wear and tear item. Had 12k miles on when purchased and i have added about 3k. Any thoughts?
  • Daihatsu Skywing - Turn Indicator Circuit and LED Substitution? 4 Feb 2023 (Forum)
I'll be heading back to Taiwan soon, and (assuming it hasn't been towed) will have to get the car through its overdue 6-monthly inspection sharpish. IIRC (don't have my notes here) I have 2/3 indicator lights (It has front, rear and side indicators) on each side working, with the circuit dead for the non-working light.
