BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 330d rough idle/shuddering 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could offer any advice, the dealer plugged it into their computer and merely said "yes it is running a little roughly but we will need it in overnight to find out the cause"!?! Many thanks, Adam -
My car is ten years old. What am I missing? 26 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Decent engine, 5-speed box, decent brakes, more than adequate performance, aircon, CD player and wipers that don't slow down on hills. Hope to run it to 100,000+ with no problems. So my car now is a world away from that Popular, but is still ten years old. Which developments in the last ten years am I really missing, and are they worth it? -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 04 2.0 Engine loses power after 40 mins 17 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I have a Mazda 6 sport 2ltr 04 reg, which starts fine, but after about 40 minutes, it start losing power, and when I stop at the lights and run in idle the engine management lights come on and it won't rev over 1500 rpm. This is easily cured by reseting battery. The car then sounds like it's missing. I have taken this to my local mazda dealer, who can find no fault on the computers :-( they have since changed 2 injectors 2/3 and this has not cured the problem either. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 2.0Hdi - Starting problems 26 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I got it started with easy start, but after a couple of miles it cut out. It would start fine with easy start but not straight off the key. A run off test gave high readings so I tried changing the injectors, the car started first turn of the key. Great! One week later same problem. I am sick of people scratching there heads at this one, has someone got an idea on what this could be, please!!!!! -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1300 Clutch wont disengage 24 Sep 2009 (Forum)
driving along in my Ford Fiesta Encore 1.3, parked up left it in gear, returned to car, put car in neutral and pressed clutch, the clutch felt exactly as it always has (full pressure) but no drive after engaging a gear, the car will not move almost as if the clutch has jammed on. So I start the car and you can get it to go in any gear engine running, even reverse (with a bit of a bump) but no drive at all. Has it turned up its curly toed slippers, or is it actually jammed on in some way. Is it an easy home fix (replacement wise), I'm pretty handy...the "Bonnie" in my name Bonnietiler is the motorcycle that I ride, so you need to know one end of a spanner from another! -
Austin (Rover) - Champ 1953 2.3 - points pitting since changed 24 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Austin B40 engine I recently fitted new condenser and points. Not having a great deal of experience with points I did the best I could, the engine was running fine for around 50 miles, when it stopped. This happened really quickly and I was not aware of any degradation of performance (if thats the right term for a Champ) On checking the points I saw a spike of metal from one to the other and was thus closing the gap. -
Volkswagen T4 Caravelle (1994 - 2003) - 02 1.9 central locking/keys 21 Sep 2009 (Forum)
My daughter has recently acquired a diesel automatic to transport her large brood and, whilst it is running very well, she has experienced one or two problems on which she and I would appreciate any available advice. Central locking appears to operate on the two front doors and the tailgate, but not on the nearside sliding door. -
Wear-outables: string, length of 13 Sep 2009 (Forum)
My long-serving Volvo S60 D5 manual will reach 100,000 miles some time this autumn. Never having run a car anything like this long before, I'm starting to wonder when I should expect predictable bits to wear out. By this I mean especially clutch, brakes and exhaust. The car's been through a few tyres, wiper blades and bulbs, and has had some model-specific maintenance items - cambelt and some bushes - but what I'm thinking of is what's a good service lifespan for a clutch or an exhaust? -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 09 1.9 1.9 diesel - engine cuts out intermittently 12 Sep 2009 (Forum)
My Berlingo's 1.9 diesel engine cuts out intermittently without warning and will not start immediately afterwards - I have to leave it 5-10 minutes before restarting. Interestingly the fault does not occur on a long run. I've cleaned out the fuel filter housing and replaced the fuel filter - I don't think fuel supply to the pump is a problem. I've taken it in for a diagnostic check at the local Citroen dealer and no fault was apparent. -
Peugeot - Expert Van 99 1.9. So slow. 24 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I guess the best way I can describe the lack of power is similar to my old Astra when the MAF died on it but is there such a thing on these vans that could cause such dire performance? There are no warning lights on and the van starts and runs fine, it just feels like there is simply not anywhere near enough power to propel it anywhere! Thanks in anticipation of any help ! Doors to manual 20 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Forced to have it as it was standard spec (another reason for buying the van without it) on the car - and that was that, just had to tolerate it. On it`s dozens of openings and closings a day it must have run up 30 years or more of typical use. Useless or what? - when there exists a far more elegant (simple) mechanical linkage on the van, which of course has the same doors. I noticed the passenger door didn`t unlock itself a few days ago. -
Soot in the oil - via the EGR valve your views? 19 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I`ve normally done 3,000 oil changes (filthy old IDI engine) which are half service interval and the cams and cambox were clean (black oil accepted) no sludge or cam surface wear, at 56,000 miles It`s occurred to me that with the EGR system no longer loading the oil with soot from the exhaust - that I might let the engine run to 5,000 miles or so on the oil. If there`s interest in this thread I will write later about the EGR blanking. -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 99 1.4 noise under trailing throttle 17 Aug 2009 (Forum)
There is very slight play in the inner n/s cv joint, and the boot has a pin prick leak of oil. Is this joint lubed from the box? Could the cv joint be the cause of the noise? Is the box running low on lube? If yes to either of these scenarios, why is the noise constant and not speed dependant? Any other suggestions for the cause of the noise? Many thanks! -
Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - Diesel fuel consumption figures! 12 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Had it for 3-1/2 yrs, and got over 50mpg on all but one tank of diesel. (Car thrashed in emergency--then many very short runs). Bought duplicate car in november2008 (except colour) and only twice have i managed to exceed 50mpg. Usually 43-49, but most common is 47mpg. Car is used on same journeys every week. Driver technique didn't suddenly change on 1/11/2008!!!! -
Renault Scenic (1999 - 2003) - 01 1600 Difficulty starting / fuel filler cap? (pe 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Should this happen? Should the filler cap be vented and might it be blocked ? Once started the car runs very well. Thanks -

Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 03 1.0 Could fast idle give OBD code? 31 Jul 2009 (Forum)
t seem to be overheating, -water is circulating through the lead-off to the idle control unit, -air filter looks OK -can't see any loose sensor connections. So beginning to run out of ideas. Ebay has OBDll cables for under £20. Would anyone know if it is likely that a problem with the idling control would show up as an error code or are useful error codes always accompanied by the engine warning light showing? -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 01 2.0D Display malfunction 25 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Our 320d has been running well since it had it's third (!) turbo 18 months ago, but it has two malfunctions of the dashboard display: i. The fuel economy readout is always 7.1mpg - even though the moving needle display works correctly and the car actually returns about 51mpg. -
Computer Related Questions - Volume 189[Read Only] 22 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I have a home PC that is currently connected to the internet via a hard-wired Ethernet cable from my Orange "Livebox" into the LAN connection of the PC. I need to move the PC a few meters and this will mean the cable run will be unsightly, so I need to put some sort of wireless controller where the PC is currently situated. The "Livebox" is in another location entirely some distance/rooms away and I do not intend to use the "wireless" capability of this unit.
