I have had my 306 about 6 months now and it has always started perfectly, until a couple of weeks ago when it was taking longer and longer to start; hot cold it didn't matter. Until at one point a turned the car off and in the same motion tried to start it again straight away and it would not go. I got it started with easy start, but after a couple of miles it cut out. It would start fine with easy start but not straight off the key.
A run off test gave high readings so I tried changing the injectors, the car started first turn of the key. Great! One week later same problem.
I am sick of people scratching there heads at this one, has someone got an idea on what this could be, please!!!!!

You really need to have a scanner plugged-in when it's cranking. It needs to see 120 bar in the rail before the injectors are activated.

Cracked injectors are one common way of losing pressure; but a worn pump can also be involved. How many had excess leak-back? With injectors @ anything up to £400 each; I take it they weren't new ones?

Any steel frag in the filter housing? [Don't disturb the element when checking.]

Apparently the maximum recomended for the leak back test is 22 or something along those lines, the best was 48 and the worst was 79!
You guessed right, second hand injectors.
I'll try and get the filter checked today, cheers.

Just trying to get in touch with screwloose.

I have read comments you have made about a modified wire for the rail pressure switch, if you know what I'm talking about, what is it?

Cheers.

If you press your Pug parts dept. to look hard; they will find a 6" modified section of loom to the FRP sensor is available - about £16.

It's plug-and-play as it has a male plug at the other end - though both ends have uprated connectors.

What was the outcome of the injector test results and has it improved the rail pressure readings?

to be honest with you I have been so up in the air recently having a bike accident and trying to get married (not a good combination) I have never had a chence to get the pressure retested as the car is also now out of tax so I can't take it to the place that tested it last time.
I have so far changed:

Low pressure pump
Fuel filter
Pressure sensor on fuel rail
Brown relay onn ecu

I have also drained and cleaned out the tank

Cheers, Rob.

If you can acquire that modification loom, it makes it much easier to do the following test.

Measure the voltage of the three wires to the rail sensor - connected.

One end should be 5.00v; the other end should be 0.25v max and the one in the middle should be 0.5v static, 1.2v at idle and 2-ish revved hard.

Although there's no stated cranking value; you'll need to see 0.7-0.8v to get it started.

Hello Srewloose,

Slightly new to the forum. But was wondering if you could lend a hand. I have a 2000 2.0hdi d turbo 306. Car has run excellent to date. The one day it stopped. Plugged up the computer and fault reads P0403 exhaust gas recirculation fault. Changed the control solenoid and injector relay (as it had evidence of arcing). Was fine for a couple of weeks and then the problem returned, with the same fault code. Now car will not start and same exhaust gas recirculation fault appears when using fault scanner. If i power up the fuel pump direct I can start the car, any advice?

Thanks in advance
