  • Ford Escort 1.8 TD - Battery has me flummoxed - one for HTH possibly 26 May 2011 (Forum)
I use a 3 stage charger (in the Summer the battery is off the car as I have an older one that is OK for Summer). It boost charges at about 14.10v and when fully charged, backs off  to about 13.87 for a maintenance charge. Now, the strange thing is, when off charge and disconnected (floating), the voltage (fully charged on a newish battery) should be about 12.80v.
  • Rover 200 and 400 (1989 - 1996) - - Battery drain problem? 30 Aug 2007 (Forum)
t=42212&m=462049&v=e I have since bought a new alternator Due to electrics problems, I bought myself an internal volt meter, which enables me to see the voltage as I drive the car. I bought a new battery the other day thinking that my previous one was getting abit old now, so that may be a weak point. For the first day or so of having the new battery, whilst driving, the voltage showed 13-13.5 volts.

  • VW Golf Battery 8 Feb 2006 (Forum)
When I took it back to the Dearler last Saturday they had it for over 7 hours and then decided to try new battery on the car as they felt that under load the battery was losing power. Has anybody heard of this sort of problem? I did say that if battery not holding charge would that not be the alternator? VW said no.
  • Golf Mk2 GTi battery discharging itself 6 Aug 2004 (Forum)
This morning the car was fine on the 25 mile trip to work and I parked up at 9am, then at midday flat as a pancake. Jump starting and all is well. The battery is new and when the problem occurs by the time the car is jump started the problem has gone such that an ammeter in series with the battery when switched off reveals no significant current drain.
  • Ford Mondeo MK III TDCI 130 (6) Saloon - Alternator/ Battery charging problem 23 Jul 2015 (Forum)
On Monday I drove 125 miles to Dorset and under heavy usage (a/c, cd player, sidelights, wipers) the battery light came on. The RAC came out and checked the battery (all fine) but determined the battery wasn't being charged (I assumed it would have been for the previous journeys since the alterator was installed) but obviously stopped working for some reason during my journey.

Re: XF charging The car has a battery monitoring system connected to the negative terminal. For charging, connect the negative lead to a ground point (the spare wheel bracket is advised) rather than the battery itself.

  • Focus keyfob battery changing 24 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I have a 2004 Ford Focus and am finding that I need to be up really close to the car for the remote central locking to operate via the keyfob. I've had a few Fords before but never had to change the keyfob battery - is it straightforward? Also I am hoping that no re-programming is required. I would have checked if this procedure is in the handbook but I didn't get one when I bought the car.
  • Citroen C4 2006 - Reprogramming Citroen C4 remote key 16 Feb 2016 (Forum)
The battery was flat in the remote control key to car.   A friend took the battery out and told me to get it replaced.    Now on enquiring from Halfords, apparently unless the battery is replaced with new one within 10 minuites, all the programme data is wiped off and key will need reprogramming.
  • Mazda MX5 MkI - Alarm sounds when new battery installed 3 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I have read and tried other suggestions, but my car alarm (factory installed) still sounds every time I try to fit battery. I have tried locking and unlocking manually, along with boot, installing key into the ingnition and turning. I have even tried getting in and out and repeating the locking unlocking routine. • Mercedes Benz C200 Elegance Estate - 1998 - Electrics short ? 14 Aug 2015 (Forum)
External mirrors and front windows work intermittently. Sometimes, disconnecting the battery and removing fuses before reconnecting battery and returning fuses works but tend to last only a few days. Any ideas how to fix this? The horn has recently stopped working and, if the car is unused for a few days, the battery needs recharging before engine will start.

  • Nissan Primera P12 - 2003 - CD player problem following battery change 12 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Hello, After changing the battery everything in the car is working fine, bar the CD player. When I try to eject the disc it just makes a clicking sound as if the mechanism is trying to push the disc out, but it stays in. The radio is working, and the current CD will play.

  • Ford Focus 1.6 petrol 2001 - Intermittent starting problem 9 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Occasionally the starter motor does not turn the engine at all. After one or more further attempts it succeeds and the engine starts normally. The battery is about 4 years old. I would prefer not to replace the battery or starter motor on the basis of a guess (or even a retailer's battery test, call me a cynic). If anyone has a better suggestion I'd be very grateful.

  • Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - 1995 2.0 Battery warning light on just now. 24 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Just about to leave on a longish trip. The battery warning light is now on. I possibly heard a faint clonk on starting, there is possibly a bit more of a whirring buzz than before, but the belt is moving. I was supposed to leave 30 minutes ago! Now this has just happened!
