Citroen C4 2006 - Reprogramming Citroen C4 remote key - Montbel2010

The battery was flat in the remote control key to car. A friend took the battery out and told me to get it replaced. Now on enquiring from Halfords, apparently unless the battery is replaced with new one within 10 minuites, all the programme data is wiped off and key will need reprogramming. On looking at costs, it seems this could be £100 + via main dealer. Is there a cheaper solution please?

i should imagine that you have fixed the problem by now (some 12 months later), but if someone else comes across this post after your fob battery has gone flat try the below:

Replace the fob battery (price open fob using small coin)
Open the car door using the key
Put the key in the ignition
Turn the ignition on
Whilst ignition is on hold the lock button down on the fob for 10-20 secs
Turn ignition off
Remove key from ignition
Lock car using fob
All done and should absolutely be working

It happened to my Subaru spare key. The battery does not need to go flat on the type of alarm that is installed. If there are two keys and one is kept as a spare (unused) then the central locking / alarm computer eventually refuses to accept the 'spare' key and it has to be reprogrammed. Look through the documents that came with the car. With mine there is a handbook for the alarm system and in it there is a method of reprogramming keys. I'm not clever, one of the other BRs told me ! I think it was Madf.

Alternatively, if you live anywhere near Stockport I can give you the details of a specialist.

Incorrect information.Just replace the batteries. The worst scenario is you may have to re-sync the remote coding operation.hth

You can re-sync the key yourself. Its only a brand new "virgin" key that needs programming with the Lexia equipment.

Key re-syncing instructions can be found in your manual:

public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ddb/

However, there are some occasions when the BSI unit loses the key information and it does need diagnostic equipment to re-sync it with the car. This only usually happens if the battery is off a car for a long time though.

Have a look for the nearest person on this map. They have the diagnostic equipment and will do it for "beer money":

With Lexia on Peugeot its:

switch on ignitinon - confirm vehicle info - Test by ECU - Built-in systems interface - Learning - Programming of keys - enter Confidential code - enter key number - switch off ignition - insert the blank key - turn on ignition - key programmed.

is it the same with Citroen?

here is the document i find on Citroen

I Key programming procedure

1) Register the keys
2) Initializing a new key procedure
1. After well installed and activate the Lexia 3 Diagbox V7.57 software, come to the main program
How to install Diagbox V7.57 for Lexia-3 PP2000 Citroen and Peugeot
2. Select "DIAGNOSIS" function in the main menu
3. Select vehicle model in Vehicle Selection menu
4. Select "GLOBAL TEST"
5. Select "BSI ECU"
6. Select "INITIALISATION"
7. Select "KEY INITIALISATION"
Follow the instructions given in the OBD diagnostic tool Daigbox software.

NOTE:
The "PARAMETER MEASURES" menu can be used to check the number of keys initialized. The number of keys initialized indicates the total number of vehicle keys. The number of HF PLIPS initialized indicates the number of HF keys initialized.

II Synchronization of HF PLIP remote controls

When replacing the batteries of an HF PLIP remote control, it is necessary to resynchronize the remote control.

1) Put the HF key to be synchronized in position "ignition +"
2) Press one of the HF key buttons within the next 10 seconds
3) Release the HF key button
4) The ignition key HF PLIP is synchronized.
5) Repeat and perform previous operations for the other keys equipped with HF remote control.
6) Perform a locking / unlocking test of the vehicle doors and tailgate. If the locking / unlocking test of the doors and tailgate fails, restart the synchronizations of all the ignition keys equipped with HF PLIPS.

I hope you find a DIY solution. When you do please check that the key that is still working does so after the spare has been reprogrammed. It's maybe unique to Ford but when I was reprogramming a Mondeo spare I found that I had to do both keys within a few minutes of each other to get both keys working.
