Ford Focus - Rev counter of battery problems - Dazzel31

I have a little problem with my year 2000 ford focus the problem is when i turn the car on and i put the accelerator pedal down and then take my foot off it again the needle on the rev counter goes below 1 rpm and back up to 1 rpm and i have to keep charging my battery can you tell me what the problem is thanks

Is the alternator working? It's fourteen years old now.. Has the alternator ever been changed? I found out the hard way that alternators on a Ford can fail without bringing in the red light! Is the alternator belt tight? As for the rev counter, all sorts of wierd things happen with a low battery.

Connect a volt meter across the battery, it should read around 14.4 volts with the engine running, much less and the alternator is faulty.
