Big Car Crash Coming ? 20 Jul 2017 (Forum)
In this Daily Mail 'This is Money' forum post (yesterday) on car financing: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-4664356/Has-Bank-England-s-squeeze-easy-credit-started.html#ixzz4lxEgKs3L A 'Sally' from London makes this interesting comment: "With car finance, how does the second hand market work, say if you "rent" a new car for 2 years at say £222 pcm with an up front payment of say £1,000 which is about £6328 then after the 2 years are up if you then take that off the price of the car new what price does the car need to be sold at second hand to still make money for the dealer that bought it from the manufacturer"? -
Advice re buying a secondhand crossover 1 Jun 2017 (Forum)
We're looking for a decent spec'd version with as many bells and whistles as possible. We aren't bothered by make so that isn't a consideration. Bizarrely my partner is S Cross so if they are any good it would be great but if not it would be an expensive coincidence and I'm just chuffed she's not called B Veyron! Any advice re. choosing a make model would be very gratefully received. -
Which cars have 'quickclear' windscreens? 6 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Anyone know of any mass-market car with such a feature? Did I read somewhere that it's available on the Skoda Superb? (The s/hand cars I'm considering are the aforementioned Superb, Hondas Accord and Legend, Lexus LS400, Toyotas Avensis and Camry, Mitsubishis Galant and newish Colt diesel auto, Nissan QX, Renault Vel Satis and an M-B W124 or the later W210 E220 CDI. -
Record Second Hand Cars Sold 18 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I read (in another paper) that a record 8.2m second-hand vehicles were bought last year. http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-4227156/Can-guess-nation-s-favourite-used-cars.html An increase of 7.3% year on year ! I drive by car dealers forecourts (Swindon) and they are stuffed with secondhand cars. I see TV & hear radio adverts where big dealers are boasting of umpteen thousand cars in national stock but I think asking prices are still high, particularly cars with 80-100k on the clock. -
Peugeot 306 XUD9TE Conrod failure 30 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Taken from the excellent car-by-car breakdown section of this most excellent site..... \"Spate of conrod failures on 1997-1998 R and S reg 1.9 XUTD diesels; one case of a late reg T: too many to attribute merely to running with low oil levels. Seems only to affect cars built from April 1997 with DHY (not DHX) serial number engines.\" Please see the pics here ~ http://groups.msn.com/honestjohn/interestingshots.msnw? -

Volvo V70 - Car been in repairers for 2 months. 18 Aug 2016 (Forum)
'It's ready.'..back yesterday promised, no car. Took curtesy car back yesterday on their word. For two months I'm driving round a new Merc S class arranged by the ins companies...v nice too..It's totally mad. It would have been ten K cheaper by my reckoning to write mine off, not that I'm moaning because of course the settlement never gets anywhere near the true value of your car. -
Citroen C4 - Auction question 31 May 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I bought a Fiat Bravo at an auction 4 years ago, car has treated me really well and it worked out as a great but doing 25k a year is making me look again. I've been able to find some low mileage 4-5 year old C4's and after reading into it I'm given the impression of a reasonably reliable car with high depreciation which suits me. I have found an automatic that is actually the model to avoid but having never driven an automatic I'm still interested. -
BMW 3 Series - Which one to choose 16 Mar 2016 (Forum)
You must have had a million of these questions on here, but I have been struggling for days to make a choice - by the time I do, all will have been sold ;) I am looking for the best choice of these to take account of insurance, economy, tax and ongoing costs - ie anything to do with £££s. Also in a quandary about age/miles balance. 2008 (58) 318i SE 39k with extras £7,399 2006 (56) 318i SE Auto 37k £6,500 2011 (61) 318d Olympic/Performance Edition 112k £7,500 All have good MOT histories (minimal/no advisories) and full service histories and are in a similar condition - ie good for age. -

PowerBulbs (the automotive lighting specialist, verified by Philips and OSRAM) is working in conjunction with BBC 1’s Fake Britain to help customers become more aware of these fakes. The show's producers would like to speak with anyone who has had the misfortune of buying a fake in order to establish the scale and seriousness of the problem. -

Seller Erase Error Codes before test drive? 28 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I dont see the point of the buyer taking a diagnostic code reader to the car that he/she will view/test drive when the seller can erase the codes from the car before the buyer turns up. Can a test drive bring the error code/s back? If not how does the buyer is sure that the car is error free before spending lots of money? Do all Error Codes Register a orange enging light on dashboard or is there some error codes that do not show up on dahboard but instead only on the diagnostic code reader? -
Porsche Macan - not sure which to get 1 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Did not like to see the extra pipe under the fuel filter cap which has to be charged up every 12K miles and costing £125 each time though. Anyway think petrol S is the best way to go. Do you think the petrol turbo costing another 9K is cost effective considering the petrol consumption is not really that different between either version and is in the same tax bracket re CO2 and considering future depreciation which would be best do you think? -

Big car luxury in a small car and on a budget. 7 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Hi All, I'm looking for big car luxury in a small car and on a budget. Does such a thing exist? I need to economise and i've had to sell my S-Class. I only do about 6,000 miles a year most of which is motorway driving. Ideally it should have 4 seats but as the rears will only ever be used by my kids it doesn't matter if it's a bit cramped in the back :-) I only have a budget of about £3,000 and was wondering what is out there that is comfortable with a ride that easily soaks up the bumps from our potholed roads, is pretty quiet at motorway speeds, will do 0-60 in less than 10 seconds and will be reliable and cheap to run. -
Why do some autos roll back on a hill? 11 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Some of them will hold the car still on a hill at idle, but other's won't. Examples: Mercedes W202 2.4 V6 holds, Jaguar S-Type 3.0 v6 holds, Honda CRV 2.0 I4 rolls back. With the cars that hold, it's not a mechnical holding device because if the hill is steep enough it will roll back, but it will hold still on moderate hills. -
2003 Ford Focus 1600cc - Focus with a few "Quirks" 6 Oct 2014 (Forum)
(As you lovely people are top-notch with your car knowledge) My boss has had the Focus garaged for quite a while now, as it''s suffering from a fault where the car thinks that it's overheating, and then goes into "Go-slow mode" (as she put it) and then won't go over 30 mph. She said that it's quite a common fault, but I can't seem to find anything about it online. -

Is the workaround to clamp the flexi-hose and open the bleed nipple instead, to be able to push the caliper pi ston(s) back? Thanks in advance
