  • Top Gear team switch lanes 20 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I'm pleased to see that Quentin Willson will be back. What do you think? Read on :: The team behind television's long-running motoring show Top Gear is switching tracks from the BBC to Channel 5. The programme that spawned the television career of Jeremy Clarkson was told by the BBC in August that it would be rested after 23 years.
  • Mazda 2.0 Skyactive - Mazda 3 2015 Skyactive Warranty 22 Sep 2025 (Forum)
I’ve read this page, but Honest John doesn’t seem to be allowed to compare companies: https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/advice/running-costs/car-warranty/ Thanks for your time!
  • Buy of the week? 23 Aug 2025 (Forum)
This morning I found this rather cheap and very practical big Skoda. These are fantastic big family cars, they cost buttons to run, they’re huge inside and they ride very well. With a range of around 200 miles and the ability to fast charge from 20-80% on around 20 mins, they’re very much capable of fulfilling the main family car duties.
  • New job, new car 6 Feb 2025 (Forum)
Ideally I would like something that easily seats four, is an auto so my wife can drive and isn’t too costly to run (although with doing so few miles, economy isn’t necessarily an issue). Do any of you wise people have any thoughts?
  • Will there be any more good cars? 23 Dec 2024 (Forum)
I looked at new cars recently and most of them are awful, unless you want something that runs on batteries. I want a small and simple petrol car, with manual transmission, and there are hardly any. Many of them are also ugly as they seem to be moving to a 'cross over' design ??. I don't actually want one now, but I'm worried that there won't be any remaining in a few years when I want one.
  • Dacia Jogger - Small Turbo GDI engine 31 Jul 2024 (Forum)
My question is what fuel to use. I've always used standard petrol and diesel fuel in run of them I'll family cars only using the super stuff in more spottier cars, but this being my first small turbo GDI engine car would it be beneficial to use the super petrol to help stop carbon build up on the valves etc.

  • Astra 2016 Dashboard Lights Issues 22 Jul 2024 (Forum)
This was everything from radio, speedometer etc. As it seemed to correct itself, I drove off (car is running fine). Unfortunately while driving, every couple of miles it would happen again. One of my tyres needed pressure so I went to top that up, thinking maybe this was causing the computer to trip. Unfortunately after that and driving for a few minutes, it happened once more but this time absolutely nothing has came back on.
  • Any - Quick job 4 Jun 2024 (Forum)
I’m pretty sure it was the best car I’ve ever driven, and almost certainly the most expensive. Superlatives run out when trying to describe the Rolls-Royce Spectre. Firstly, it’s electric. So existing levels of R-R refinement are turned up a notch or two. The ride quality has to be felt to be believed - the anti-roll bars disengage when travelling in a straight line, so any vertical movement of one wheel can’t influence its axle mate.
  • HYUNDAI TUCSON SPECIAL EDITIONS - 1.6 TGDi - Hyundai Tucson - Turbo Actuator - Part Finder Help 3 Jun 2024 (Forum)
My engine light came on last week after noticing some acceleration issues on a long drive. On the whole, the car still runs okay, but it limps sometimes and doesn't speed up as well. I ran a diagnostic and was told I need to replace the turbo actuator/wastegate. On looking online, I can't find a definitive item I need to order as the details aren't always clear.
  • Honda Jazz 2012 1.4 CVT - Honda Jazz CVT problems 15 Jul 2023 (Forum)
I now have been to a couple of auto transmission specialist who have advised it is cheaper to get a second hand auto gear box and change it over. Any advice or suggestions if this is better than scrapping the car or running it in the ground. One final question if we don't get it fixed what will happen will it eventually break down all of a sudden? Sorry about the big message. TIA for reading and hopefully giving me some advice.
  • Hybrid Engines when cold 6 May 2023 (Forum)
However, with a hybrid there's sometimes very little control over the engine revs whether it's warm or not, and we were discussing whether this would actually do damage in the long run.  For example, as I leave home I have to go up a hill and the engine operates at high revs without being warmed up because the battery/motor alone won't propel the car up the hill. There are a million high mileage hybrids out there so I suspect it's something that's possibly catered for by modern oils or more regular maintainence but I thought it was an interesting discussion point.
  • Ford S-MAX - When to replace high mileage 30 Mar 2023 (Forum)
When to replace a car.. would like to keep it running until next year but worried about DPF.  Will talk to our regular independent garage and ask them to do a filter clean. We have a 2012 Ford S-MAX 2.0 TDCi Titanium with 160k mileage bought at 136k mileage one owner in 2019 (was a high mileage car for someone driving 19k p.a .
  • 2010 Honda 1.8 Civic. - Honda Civic 1.8 Low pressure Light 31 Oct 2022 (Forum)
I was advised that i should not be driving it as it can cause major damage to the engine , I am looking to book it in to a garage next thursday but have to do a 100 mile run on Monday but not too sure if that's sensible.
  • Driving licence expired - legal to drive? 20 Jun 2022 (Forum)
Section 88 seems to suggests that you can drive while waiting for a new licence as long as you have had notification that the application has been received (which I have). But it also seems to suggest that this applies if your previous licence runs out during the period you are waiting. I'm not sure it applies if your previous licence has expired before you put in the renewal application. Thoughts, anyone?
  • New service station scam 14 Apr 2022 (Forum)
The girl apologetically introduced herself and then delivered an obviously well-rehearsed patter about having run out of petrol and lost her purse, while all the time leaning into the car to ensure I couldn't fail to get an 'eyeful' via her very low-cut top. She then asked if I could spare 'a few quid' to 'help her out', while emphasising that she was 'not a beggar'.
  • Can I connect speakers wirelessly to my TV? 24 Jan 2022 (Forum)
So I was wondering if it would be feasible to get some kind of speaker near where I sit?. I don't really want to run wires round the living room if I can help it, so I'm wondering if there is some means to connect a speaker wirelessly to the TV?. I will hopefully get a new TV within the next year, and I can manage the way it is, but just wondering if it was possible to improve things in the meantime.
  • Honda Civic Sport 1.5 - Electric brake failure 22 Nov 2021 (Forum)
The girls said the car made a loud beep, the dashboard flashed and then the car started moving. A local Honda dealership has run diagnostics and said there are no faults! What other explanation is there for this to happen? If the brake hadn't been on it would have rolled before I'd even got out of the car. Ive6put in a complaint to Honda UK but haven't heard anything yet.
  • Opel Mervia - Opel Mervia light grey/white smoke 26 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I’ve told the garage I bought it from and they filled the coolant more and said it’s all fine and it’s normal for the car to do so. Which to me a car doesn’t just blow out smoke.I’ve never had a LPG running car so don’t now if this is the norm. If anyone can help what the issue might be it would be really helpful. Thanks in advance
  • Seat Alhambra - Battery replacement advice 4 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Hi, 99% sure I need to replace the battery in my 2013 Seat Alhambra 2l Tdi with start stop, have trickle charged it a number of times and it's not holding charge even after 50/60 mile run. Current battery is Exide TU3 EFB 79Ah, 720A (EN/SAE/GS), from all I've read I should replace with same or better, I'm open to going to an AGM battery and have found a Bosch battery that I think I'm happy with.
