  • Pug 307 HDi 1.4 19 Jan 2005 (Forum)
My sister has a eight year old Golf as an everyday car. The Golf has been breaking down recently and she is thinking of cchanging it. A friend of hers has offered her a bargain two year old 307 1.4 diesel for £5500. Anyone have any experience of them?
  • Non-transferrable Registration Marks 12 Nov 2004 (Forum)
A while ago I saw an old car for sale with a nice registration plate bearing my initials. I inquired about the car (I would probably have paid the asking price for it just for the number, and sold the remainder (an old Austin A7 I think) on for whatever I could get for it).
  • Self cancelling indicators 24 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Then, when you have finished with it you have to check that it has cancelled itself. Is there any way to disable self cancelling on a modern car? I used to snap off two plastic lugs on my old bangers, (Cortina, Viva) I suspect its not that simple any more.
  • Modern fuel systems 2 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The reason I ask is I am having problems with my new Ford Galaxy regarding strong smell of petrol fumes from the petrol cap (only when driving or after stopping) and the dealer says it's normal, blah, blah. I cannot believe this is normal... I never used to smell petrol from my old cars and surely a modern car should be better...
  • Mondeo fan heater - the cost! 22 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Total (inc VAT) was £69.70. I proposed Fords reported 'good-will gestures' but was told 'not on a 68,000 miler over 4 years old'. As the old saying goes 'smile and pay up!' This is referred to on HJ's car by car breakdown - so, when considering a used Mondeo, it's well worth checking the heater fan speed switch - something easily overlooked.
  • A3 police convoy 11 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Did anyone see the convoy of police cars down the A3, heading toward Guildford this morning? Any idea what was going on? There was an unmarked old style Land Rover in the middle of the cars...strange.

  • Daracq - Genevieve is on tomorrow 22 Jun 2020 (Forum)
The classic British film about old cars is on Talking Pictures TV at 2.20 tomorrow. Just in case anyone's intersted!
  • Toyota Yaris - bigger car on a budget! 16 Jan 2025 (Forum)
Nice things like a car alarm! and heated seats/windscreen would also be a treat!
  • Jaguar XF - Jaguar XF 3.0d engine failure 28 Sep 2014 (Forum)
As the car was working perfectly before it went in, is on 4 years old (60 reg) and he himself has only had the car 2 years doing regular but not huge mileage he feels that this is unacceptable, and that something they have done, or not done, when servicing the car has led to this problem.
  • Medium size used car - Recommendations? 17 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Another thing which would be nice but is not vital are good looks. Looking around, I've seen cars which are 3 years old/50000 miles and some which are slightly older but fewer miles, which would be better? Interested to hear your suggestions and thoughts on cars which would be particularly worth looking at.
  • Vauxhall Astra - thinking of sc***ping your car ? 29 May 2010 (Forum)
i recently sc***ped our old astra we tried lots of popular companies and the main ones who say "we buy any car" .com, but we found out to our dismay that they dont, it was in a bad way all the tyres were flat or bald and it had been through the wars dent wise, water was mixing with oil in the engine block so it wasn't a runner anymore, in the end this site was recommended by a neighbour of ours and they were good, http://www.sc***-my-car-wales.co.uk/ not only did we get £80 for the astra but we got a certificate saying the car had been sc***ped in the mail a few days later :D not only in Wales either they are now covering SW England too.
  • Jaguar X-Type Estate (2004 - 2007) - Warranty not honoured 12 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I am now driving an unroadworthy 2 1/2 year old prestige car and if the police should check the car I would have a criminal record and my DNA would be held on the national database like any other common criminal.
  • Would you buy a new car? 24 Mar 2009 (Forum)

Thanks {typo in header corrected at OPs request}
  • Small car but big feel 8 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I have been asked by a neighbour's sister to help choose her next car. She likes small cars i.e. Clio/Fiesa/Corsa size but likes a big engine for relaxed motorway driving. She only does 6K a year but most of that is motorway with one trip to France a year. She currently has an old Clio which is a 1.4 IIRC.
  • Spare Wheels 3 May 2005 (Forum)
Did early cars not have boots, or not big enough for a wheel? Or was running gear so much more complex? I realise that some early cars were rear engined but I am not so sure if they all were? [This was prompted by my son looking at old cars and discussing them with me.
  • C4 - first impression 29 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I also saw the new C5 whilst I was there and I was impressed with the new styling. It is a much better balanced looking car than the old model.
  • Any - Airborne toxins from old cars... 21 Dec 2018 (Forum)
All this makes buying a cheap, used car extremely problematic! Now of course I can switch the air recirculation on so as to stop any fumes from the engine getting into the cabin, and that certainly helps. BUT if I then open the window I've found that (in an old Golf, at least) the fumes from the engine will still then affect me.
  • Unknown - What Car? 26 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Found this picture in old family album. Believe taken around 1965. Looks like 'kit car' but cannot read the badge as pic not very good. Cannot find  registration number listed. Any folks out there have an idea?
