  • Winter driving and tyre pressures 20 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I was wondering if there was any mileage (excuse the pun) in reducing tyre pressures (max. by around 10-15%), from the recommended values when driving in Winter conditions? By ?Winter? I mean icy /snowy tarmac roads and motorways. The logic behind this is from 4X4 drivers who reduce tyre pressure when driving in sandy/muddy/snowy conditions to increase the tyre?

  • Any - Hard drive for music ? 4 Sep 2024 (Forum)
My imported Honda Stream, which may have to be pensioned off, has a hard drive to automatically record all the CDs that are played. We have 125 albums on it and counting. This is a very useful feature. -Far more convenient than playing music from a mobile phone, even with bluetooth.
  • Ford Mondeo - Brake squeal after driving at higher speeds 1 Sep 2023 (Forum)
When I drive at higher speeds, such as 40-50mph then use my brakes, I will then proceed to hear a squealing noise coming from the passenger side, most likely from the brakes, but only when the car is in motion, not during braking.
  • Everyone will have to drive an EV by 2030 7 May 2021 (Forum)
Grant Shapps - Transport Minister - made the above statement recently https://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/cars/article-9545797/Transport-Secretary-says-everybody-driving-electric-2030.html   If you ever wanted to know how useless a politician might be, a Minister who does not understand his own Government's legislation must be on top of the list.
  • Diesel - Driving it Wrong? 10 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I've just got an Audi A1 1.6 TDI. Before, I had a 2008 VW Polo petrol. Don't have much experience of driving diesels. The Polo would sit happily on a flat road at 30 in 5th, but the diesel won't. Even 4th at 30 is a struggle for it sometimes. I'd have thought with the diesel being more powerful it could do it, so why can't it without it labouring the engine?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-48213106 6 month ban - he already had 6 points for speeding & was given another 6 today for using a mobile whilst driving. A long time coming - "Loophole Lawyer "dug him out of some earlier charges when he was found not guilty.
  • Driving in snow 13 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Sadly, he did not realise the traction control needs to be OFF with the orange light permanently showing on the dash if trying to get up a deeply snowed hill.  I wonder how many other youngsters who may never have practised snow-driving realise this?
  • Venga 1.6 auto - SWMBO going to drive more.. 11 Sep 2017 (Forum)
There was me, perfectly happy with the venga, but swmbo  decides she wants to drive more and therefore would like an auto box. Keeping away from the boxes of doom in their various guises, the choice seems to be a venga or i20 auto, but the fuel consumption is poor. thinking a size smaller, suzuki celerio???
  • Drink / Drive Campaign 8 May 2017 (Forum)
Every year just before Christmas, the government usually launches, with much publicity, their seasonal anti drink drive advertising campaign. This seemed to pass me by this year. I don't recall the usual fanfare or the adverts in the press or on TV. If there was such a campaign, I missed it, so did anyone else? I heard a report that DD figures were up for Christmas 2009, can anyone back this up.

  • Any - Best drive ever 22 Nov 2011 (Forum)
While stuck in a jam the other day I cast my mind back to my most enjoyable drive ever. It was from london to Blandford in the wee small hours in a 2 litre Vauxhall Victor and the road was clear all the way. A starry night too  I had a completely clear run along the Salisbury-Blandford road too with headlights seemingly shining out forever ahead.
