• Right key, wrong keyhole 31 Jul 2010 (Ask HJ)
You recommend running at higher revs to help a DPF to regenerate. I drive a Volvo V70 AWD 2.4d. At 2,000 rpm I travel at 60 mph. At 2,300 rpm I travel...
• The mem saab 12 Dec 2009 (Ask HJ)
I currently own a 2005 SAAB 9-5 saloon 2.2 TID Auto. It has just over 43,000 miles on the clock and has been reasonably reliable, except for the boot...
• Hyundai ix20 - What cars will take a 44ins wide load? 30 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Then I tried the Ford Galymax and they're 45ins plus. Great! Until I read about the Power shift issues. I'd be buying older than 3 years and the thought of no warranty and a dodgy auto box is scary. So back to our Kia dealer who phoned me back after a mosey round his showroom with a tape measure.
• Buying an estate car? 29 May 2013 (Ask HJ)
I am looking at getting an A6 Avant. If I go for an old shape 2011 plate with 15,000 miles on the clock I am looking at roughly £20k. If I look at the...
• Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - 09 2.2TDCi engine problems 23 Oct 2009 (Forum)
On the second visit, they told me the fan noise after switch off was the EGR valve, but couldn't explain the smoke. Have recently put a full tank of Shell V-Power into it, should it be a supermarket fuel issue with the EGR. As this engine isn't just limited to Mondeos, has anyone got any ideas on what to do next? Many thanks!
• Jaguar X-Type (2001 - 2009) - Impressions 16 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Perhaps justifies a new thread from the man v auto one: Drove a 3.0 Sport manual today. Nice crisp V6, the chassis felt firm but absorbed ruts and bumps well, the steering was weighted much like the Mondeo, didn't hoon around so cant really comment on handling though it was surefooted and responsive enough.
• Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1.8 Zetec 2002, Petrol, Manual, Engine cut out 18 Oct 2007 (Forum)
First time I took it to ford for a diagnostic but nothing came up. The car idles fine, accelerates fine. The only other v small quirk is that sometimes it won't start up on first turn of the key when the engine is warm (say if I have used car and gone back to use again after 20 mins or so) - but usually starts on the 2nd attempt.
• Fuel Filter on Back to Front! - Cavalier 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Have had a \'95 16V Cavalier for 6 months that has on the whole been fine. Had some problems with air flow sensor (http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=i&t=13656), but this has not stopped it being a reliable (on the whole!), economical (40mpg) mile muncher. This last week, the \'stuttering\' returned, this time on a trailing throttle, and it took a minute or two of pumping for the power to return.
• 2004 Pontiac GTO - Motor Trend review 7 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Surprise #5: Although it'll happily melt its rear BFGoodriches into rubber pudding (a standard traction-control system will step in to save your tires unless you switch it off), the GTO runs not like a shuddering, rackety musclecar, but like a sophisticated executive's express. The muscle is certainly there: Under the hood lies the same 5.7-liter LS1 V-8 that powers some Chevrolet Corvettes; in the GTO, it delivers a studly 350 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 365 pound-feet of torque at 4000. Coupled to the optional ($695) Tremec six-speed manual transmission (an electronically controlled four-speed automatic is standard), the Vette V-8 kicks the GTO with inspiring swiftness.

• Ford Fiesta 1999 V-reg 1.25 Zetec-SE - Running & idling problems, DTC codes - help please 19 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Hello everyone My 1999 V-reg Fiesta has been suffering from the dreaded idling & running problems and I've been following the usual advice. It sometimes tries stalling when approaching junctions, it seems the engine is trying to kep the revs up and is sometimes kangarooing when trying to change down through the gears to second while slowly coming to a halt.

• Superfuels don't equal super savings? 27 Sep 2008 (Forum)
s former senior research engineer, Peter de Nayer. In these tests, high-octane premium fuels including BP Ultimate, Shell V-Power, Esso Supreme and Total Excellium performed little or no better than their cheaper equivalents, in spite of costing around 7% more per litre. ?Our tests show that premium fuels are an unnecessary expense with no major fuel economy benefit?
• Emotion vs. logic once again 7 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The legendary lack of will-power in this family regarding things automotive with very large engines threatens another assault on the biscuit tin under the mattress in the form of a stable-mate for the Growlette's red '66 Mustang rag-top owned these last 11 years.
• Why are Volkswagen replacing the old 1.4-litre engine with the 1.5? 10 Jan 2018 (Ask HJ)
