  • Worth a call? 25 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, Got a message on our answerphone from a chap who has apparently bought our old MINI. Seems genuine enough, but I was wondering if by calling him back to have a chat about it I was heading into unforseen peril. The only thing I can think of to try and route out rouge-dom is to call him (withholding our number) and saying I'd called about the car.

  • super unleaded fuel 2 Mar 2002 (Forum)
If so can these justify the extra cost? Also is it worth trying this in my 1994 single point injection 1.3 Mini Cooper? I realise the engine is basically a 40 year old design with modern fuel injection and because of this I am reluctant to try it; however I would still be interested to know. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  • VARIOUS - PART EXCHANGE LIMBO? 27 Jan 2025 (Forum)
x1 in 2020,  x1 in 2021, x2 in 2022, x11 in 2023, x6 in 2024. They include x2 Petrol Minis 06 & 08, x1 Petrol BMW 08, x2 Diesel VWs 12 & 14 Reg. Have you noticed this happening anywhere near you in the UK? Is it due to the Green agenda?
  • EV Tyre prices 31 May 2023 (Forum)
£388 and £370 including a new TPMS sensor. Quite why you would need new sensors is something else.  I know for a MINI they cost £62 each but you can get cheaper ones and then you have to have the tyre off and reset the system.  So this would make each tyre over £300 .  Probably a poor example of EV tyre prices or is it?...

DH wants to run up more debt clogging up the courts, wow, I wonder what his solicitor said about that? The mini will still be a pile of rust at the end of it all, unless DH wants to pay £7k for a new bodyshell - plus labour - come on DH, stop being a skinflint - PAY UP.
  • 4 week driving ban 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Turned 50 last week and celebrated by spending 4 hours in A & E on Sunday, having had an episode of "smeared" vision. Diagnosis is Transient Ischaematic Attack (mini-stroke) Hospital tell me a) no driving for 4 weeks, and b) inform DVLA. Former; O.K., will bite bullet. Latter; I'm going to wait until I've been to the T.I.A. clinic and had it confirmed as what it was. a) what (if anything) will DVLA do?
  • Mitsubishi L200 54 reg - Error code showing for waste-gate sensor fault 29 Dec 2011 (Forum)
He noticed this first with a lack of power, when under full load either going full chat up a hill or pulling a trailer with a mini-digger. So it would seem something is causing the waste-gate to dump the gas - where does the 'signal' come from on these (intake pressure, fuel pump), before taking it to the dealer is there anything a competent DIY'er can do to repair or confirm the diagnosis further on this?
  • jaguar s type - Sideways impact 9 May 2011 (Forum)
A friend was involved in a road traffic accident a couple of weeks ago and the side of his s type was driven into by a ford ka at between 30-40mph on a mini roundabout, his speed was quite low. result, A pillar and B pillar destroyed +  side of car, now a write off, ford ka pulverised miraculously driver unhurt too! As usual because both said no one hurt, boys in blue not interested.
  • Vauxhall 1.4 MPI - What year is my Vauxhall motor? 11 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I recently purchased a classic Mini which has been fitted with a 1.4L Vauxhall motor on an AllSpeed subframe.  I'm trying to find out what year the motor is so I can purchase replacement parts for it.  The motor appears to be a C14SE, but I'm not certain.
  • Rare Triumph Mayflower destroyed under scrappage 27 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The Triumph Mayflower was only produced from 1949 to 1953 so there are not many examples around these days, especially ones in good condition. One example was traded in for a new MINI under the Scrappage Scheme and as disposal of scrappage cars is dealt with centrally by BMW UK, the Dealer had no control over its fate and it was eventually destroyed. Follow the link below for a picture and a copy of the response letter from BMW. http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/2009/10/11/scrappage-killed-by-greed/ Mandy should have set a 25-year age limit for the scrappage scheme like the Americans did for their scheme!
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 Is the 1.6 tdci just as bad as 2.0 ? 18 May 2008 (Forum)
Not sure if the similar problems with the CR systems of the Mazda 6 engine are related. The 1.6 tdci engine as used in the Focus ( also Mini ? ) does not seem to get the same bad press. I'm aware the engine is quite different, although also Peugeot derived. Is it subject to the same potential problems, or does it have a better track record ?
  • The definitive small car from almost 50 years ago 10 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Saw a Mini (original) on the Motorway today and thought its the definitive compact car. Its surely Impossible to get anything built to the same size now due to safety regs? But it sure does make all other small cars look bloated with wasted space.
  • Automotive new order - suggestions 10 Dec 2007 (Forum)
If it is patently obvious that the vehicle in front of you is about to parallel park, do not drive up to their back bumper and prevent them from doing so. Having a Taxi / mini cab does not automatically confer the right to sit on double yellow lines completely blocking the highway while you wait for a pre-booked fare or collect the money from the one you have just had.
  • British Workers & Foreign Management 2 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Honda have just annonced the creation of an additional 700 jobs in Swindon due to demand of the new Honda Civic. This is now on top of the jobs with the Mini and new models going to Nissan Sunderland as well. It just goes to demonstrate that the British worker can be the best in the world with the right leadership. And with leadership I mean good design, quality products, being respected as a worker and getting a fair days pay and being listened to with your ideas for improving your process.
  • Low cost work horse? 21 May 2006 (Forum)
We run a Mini and an MX-5 which cover almost all of our motoring needs. Occasionally though it would be useful to have a 3rd car to use for taking garden waste to the tip, bringing home the occasional Ikea flat pack and taking bikes out occasionally.
  • Will you admit you've named your car? 7 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Here we go; the cars my wife and I have owned and their monikers: Mini = Oscar Lada = Larry Cavalier = Cap'tn Cav Punto = Peter Mondeo = Monty Fiesta = Fast Freddie Capri = Caspar Capri No. 2 = Caspar 2 Escort = Essie Volvo S60 = Vinnie (Soon to arrive) Almera = Alfie Quite a few of the cars have had other names at other times, most of them rude and said whilst trying to get them started.
  • changing roundabout road markings 1 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Been meaning to ask this for some time but does anyone know why the white line markings at mini-roundabouts has changed? Around here (N. Kent within M25) at least, the usual sets of 2 short parallel white lines have been replaced with much broader short white 'blocks' and the old give way white triangle removed altogether.
  • Distraction 4 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I know it's not strictly car-related but I'll keep it short. I was unfortunate to watch a quiz programme on C4 on Friday. The "winner" received a brand new mini as her prize. BUT She had to answer a further 5 questions before actually winning. Answering incorrectly resulted in her having to "remove" a part of the car. In summary she: 1) Removed the wing mirrors with a baseball bat. 2) Smashed the headlights with a hammer. 3) Spray painted the driver's door. 4) Smashed the windscreen with a sledgeghammer.
