SAAB 9-3 (1998 - 2002) - Advice on Saab 9-3 2.2TiD 24 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, Friend is looking for a Saab tid to replace his older petrol LPT one. He's seen one for sale 2002 51 plate SE with 118000 miles but full saab s/h - £2750. He's really keen but I've advised caution - my understanding is that the diesel is not very good. Any pointers or wise words disproving my view before he goes and looks at it? (It'll be a 180 mile round trip and I have a feeling this might influence his decision - if he goes I don't think he will come back without having bought it!). -
Desirable to Dinosaur in a decade? 23 Jul 2008 (Forum)
It must have been a different ball game 10 years ago for the Jeep. We kept pace for a few hundred yards, me doing 63mpg and him no doubt, around 18mpg.. What`s betting that in 10years time, someone is running alongside me in an electric car (News this AM) and thinking the same of mine? -

Compactest 6-seater out there? 21 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Anything in the style of a Berlingo/Partner/Caddy would be fine but do they ever come with (an) extra seat(s) in the back? I don't think so, but don't know too much about cars. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 1998 1.7 Rough running diesel. 16 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The D.I.L. 's Corsa 1.7 diesel has started to run rough, similar to having a missing plug. It was refuelled with fresh diesel, the receipt says so. I drove it after she used it and for me it ran OK. The local garage, not being a diesel specialist, looked at the fuel for water contamination and said it was fine but changed the fuel filter just as a precaution. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 54 2.0 TDCI. A Leak 11 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I'm assured the gearbox levels are good. The stain is not dark lubricating oil, we initially thought it might be the clutch cylinder/s but it was dry as the fluid is of a light complexion, does not smell of anything in particular. I know that the airconditioning emits watery waste but would this cause a stain. If it was water, I'd of thought it would evaporate. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1998 TD - fuel stop solenoid 7 Jun 2008 (Forum)

Hot climate - any ill-effects? 3 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Does anyone know if extreme hot dry weather running has any detrimental effect(s) on an engine? I picked up a new XC90 on Thursday, and whilst out on a weekend drive the external temperature gauge showed 48 degrees C! (I'm in the Middle East). Yesterday after parking in the sun for a couple of hours the dash read-out was 54 degrees! -
Ford Escort (1990 - 1992) - Ford keys security 19 May 2008 (Forum)
d left it. But, because there was no obvious damage to the door lock or ignition, he hasn?t reported it. He?s been told that youths with old Ford keys can gain entry to and drive away various old Fords with high mileage and worn locks. Even a flat screwdriver will work with some! Is this true or just an old wives? -
Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 96 1.6 immobiliser problem not disarming with key 6 May 2008 (Forum)
As it is the car will not start it is just dead when you turn the ignition to start it. The key fob unlocks the doors, but does not disarm the immobiliser Had this problem with 306's and found if you turned ignition on before connecting battery then immobiliser disarmed and everything worked as it should. Is there any quick fix for this one or is it a trip to the dealers. -
Now this is sneaky 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
storyId=17951 {link to pistonheads made non clickable due to some of the content on there} "Rumour has it that this boring old blue builder?s van may not be as innocent as it seems. Photos of the van, seen in Derbyshire, started circulating on the web and the suggestion was that it is in fact a speed camera van in disguise. It could be the latest sneaky tactic the police are using to snare motorists after they were caught using a horse box recently. -
Volvo XC90 (2002 - ) - 4x4 wheel balance and track 27 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My Volvo XC90 has a nasty habit of using up expensive 18inch Continental Contacts, the first set lasted 15k and the second are now getting close at 30k with one n/s rear distinctly dodgy and wearing all on the outside.Last set fitted by Volvo dealer, now closed and nearest 20miles. Dealer claimed tyres needed 4x4 balance cost £180 thank you very much, chap who did it told me "it can be out again in a few miles".What is the best way to prolong life of these tyres which are £150 ago? -
Wiper blades at well known supermarket 22 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Looked at blades - fine no problem, then turned packet over to look at cars it could be fitted to and found a roll call of cars I have not seen since I learnt to drive in the late 1980's. The most recent car was a Escort mk 6? (2000?) but most dated from 1975 - 1995. Used to get this in another well known car parts supplier until they recently upgraded their flip books a few years ago. -
Best £3-£4k convertible? 20 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Three cars I'm considering are the old style Saab 900, the GM Saab 900/93 or the Audi 80 convertible from the 90's. Does anyone have any experience of these or have any other suggestions? It would need to be reliable so anything too old is out. Living in London I like the idea of the Audi as you can get a hardtop for it, but I've always fancied a classic 900. -

Satnav disaster? No, I say. 9 Apr 2008 (Forum)
xml=/news/2008/04/03/nsatnav303.xm l "The journey from the family estate at Althorp, near Northampton, should have been a straightforward 85 mile hop south down the M1 to Chelsea?s Stamford Bridge stadium. But it went wrong when the driver typed the destination into his sat-nav and then dutifully followed the instructions 146 miles north to the village of Stamford Bridge near York." -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Just bought a TDCi 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Just bought a Zetec-S (130bhp 2004) so probably going to be posting a few questions on here. First one is that every picture I've ever seen of the engine bay of a TDCi, the engine has a large plastic cowel/cover covering the entire engine. -
Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - '99 1.6 VTR - Headlight replacement 20 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I've offered to change a broken N/S headlight for a friend at work. Does anyone know how to remove the old unit? A thin, flimsy body coloured strip of the radiator grille runs under the headlight and meets up with the wing under the indicator. -
