Avensis, Mazda 6 or Mondeo? 20 Sep 2005 (Forum)
It MUST have Auto box and cruise control, I would ideally like sat. nav. and diesel - which rules out all of them except the Ford. Most important, it must be reiable. What do you think? Don -
maserati vs porsche 17 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I am looking to buy a 2+2 coupe sports car and will spend up to 35k. Don't like the RX8. Want something with power and panache. MPG not important but don't want to be hit hugely by depreciation. Two main contenders are used Porsche 996 or Maserati coupe (2001 '3200' or maybe 2002 '4200' (just about for the price). Maserati less common than Porsche and look good but need to have the thing start every morning. -
60's VW Camper sounds 8 May 2005 (Forum)
Only just motoring content, but I'm running out of ideas. (sorry mods) Little brother has just bought a '60s VW camper imported from California in reasonably good nick. He (and I) were growing up in the 60's and I was going to make up a CD compilation for him when he and his mrs go off camping in the beast. Suggestions and additions most welcome. -
buying new, or second hand 22 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Can anyone reccommend something that meets these criteria. Not bothered by mod cons, but safety very important. thanks -
Best turbo diesel car for under £5k? 8 May 2003 (Forum)
With a budget of £5000, I want (obviously) an economical car, but at the same time a fun car - decent acceleration and a nice chassis. Comfort and safety are important too, so I want dual airbags, air con and abs. In fact, any feature beginning with A would be good! Oh and I don't want a 'birds' car. C'mon people, you know what I'm talking about. Any ideas? -
Corrado or 306XSi 15 Apr 2003 (Forum)
He wants to spend up to about £3k, doesn't do a huge mileage. He wants good handling (used to love my Alfasud Sprint) MPG not very important, car will be used mainly at weekends. He probably does not want the VR6 (which would be my choice). We've looked at HJ's CBC breakdown so know some of the potential pitfalls of both. However, we'd like some first hand comments, recommendations, warnings etc. -
Zafira 2.2DTI 15 Nov 2002 (Forum)
news_id=583">here a> it suggests showroom4cars.com sells them. The aren't on the website though. Also a personal import from Belgium might be a possibility. Anyone know (HJ?) a source for one of these would be? LHD is not necessarily a problem. -
Production up, sales down. 26 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Doesn't surprise me one bit that production is up 19.5% while sales are down 19%. A mate of mine contacted me about a price for an imported 307 1.4 lx and a focus 1.6 lx but he wanted the price within 5 days due to the 'offer' on the Pug. So, I got him the price which saved just over £2k off the Pug but he went ahead and bought off the UK dealer because he 'threw in a cd autochanger'! -

Help! Japanese vs UK Cars 11 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Hi all. I am just going to buy a car and want to avoid a Japanese import (I'm just too much a novice buyer to buy foreign!!). Given that it will be either an old VTEC Prelude or a 300ZX, are there any guaranteed ways to tell if it is a UK/Japanese car? Also - just interested in which of these any of you petrolheads may choose over the other and why!! -
Car-jacking reaches UK - offical? 27 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Living in a banana republic where backhanders and graft are a way of life in almost every transaction with officialdom (and, I might add, one of the reasons it often works better than in so-called developed countries) I was surprised to read that Her Majesty's Customs are impounding vehicles arriving in UK from EU with legally imported amounts of tobacco. Is this true? If so how do they get away with it, and how much does it "cost" to grease out of it, just in case I need to one day? -
recall 28 Jul 2001 (Forum)
They seem to be using their own customer database and not the DVLA one as this ones owner has moved since it was bought and the letter went to the old address (yes the registration doc has had current address for some time) The Xsara is about 10 months old... You would have thought if its an important check they would be complelled to use the DVLA addresses ? Sorry to all you Xsara owners... (is this a tactic to avoid getting on the recalled cars list?) -
Nissan Micra - How do I get the exact model-details for my Micra? 27 Feb 2025 (Forum)
I don't know what the "Pure Drive" icon on the back of the car refers to either (too small to see clearly in the picture, but it's the small blue rectangle on the right-side of the boot-door). It's important that I get these details because I need to buy new parts for it—a new seatbelt. -
Honda Fit 2006 - Honda Jazz problem ?EGR valve 19 May 2017 (Forum)
I have a Honda Fit (jazz, japanese import), automatic 2006 model. It has close to 100,000 miles done. For a long while now it has had a problem where it seems to jerk - the mechanic decribed it as a loss of power. It is only brief and it only happens when accelerating, normally at around 2000 revs. -
Buying a first car - diabetic/insurance 31 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I need something cheap to service, and cheap to run and insure. The initial purchase price of the car isn't that important as long as I get the right car. Does anybody have any ideas? -
HPI Check Discrepancy 9 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The more detailed of the two checks that I've carried out reveals the reported issues relate to the vehicle VIN... and fortunately the part detailing the outstanding finance gives the name of a model of caravan for 'description'. The vehicle I sold was a motorcycle... and one that appears to have been a parallel import when it was first registered, and only the last six digits of the VIN (chassis) number were given to DVLA. Further investigation reveals that this is quite often a normal practice when it comes to parallel imports. -

Advice on a new car 10 Jun 2008 (Forum)
* economy would be nice of course (assuming here that more economical petrol engine = more economical lpg engine) * not too many miles on the clock (preferably less than 30k) * whatever features one needs from a car to keep two babies (and then kids, which I'm told they'll turn into) safe * not too old (preferably around 3 years) * looks are important, as is build quality EDIT: Forgot to add the important bit - prefer to keep the budget to around £8k, but anything close enough is good enough. Oh, if anyone knows where I can get the moon on a stick that would be appreciated too. -
MPV or estate car for 2+3 family 30 Jul 2006 (Forum)
We might actually keep the 406 as it's reliable and well-maintained. Whatever we go for it will have to be a diesel - the fuel economy is important. We are currently doing about 12000 miles a year and I don't change cars often (every 5-10 years). I don't really care about it being a bit on the slow side - I'm past all that now and comfort and reliability are much more important (yawn!). -
Time for a new car. Please advise. 26 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Other info: I mainly do short runs of approx 5 miles a time, plus the odd 100 mile each way journey a couple of times a month. Safety is important. Quality feel is important, prestige brand isn't. Fuel economy of 30mph + would be good. I prefer an automatic Room in the back for 2 pre-teen children Will probably lease and spend approx £350 a month, perhaps a bit more for the right car.
