  In this country I need a car and if I'm to have a newer efficient car then I must live "over the barrel" as any of these computer/ECU problems will mean an enormous bill or as one mechanic said " a written off" motor! It would seem that this situation is worsening as cars become ever more complicated and computerised. Even a simple brake pad change in some vehicles now requires it be plugged in to a computer.

  It seems down on power and when pulling up hill or working a bit hard to engine slows for a few seconds then slowly builds back up again. I was also thinking of having an ECU remap to boost the power output, is this possible with this engine

  However, I’ve had a stream of faults from my car, a new VW Polo, and a loaner while mine was being repaired. I am wondering if the ECU is fit for purpose, and safe for on road use.

  How can I disable ABS Anti-Lock Brake System ? Can I just unplug the plug to the ABS ECU in the engine bay ?

  I've seen on the site about other people having the same problem as I now have, Glow plug warning light coming on, and was wondering is anyone has replaced the diesel injectors on their car. I have heard that they need programming into the (ECU I think) but just wondered if I could change them over myself. Any advise greatly recieved.

  Hi, A warning light is permanently on on my dashboard.  It's in yellow and it's a little picture of a car with a spanner.  It is on due to an ECU fault and all the car's systems work fine. Will my car fail it's MOT on this now or in the near future due to the MOT rule changes, assuming everything else is OK?  Incidentally, It passed it'd last MOT with it on.

  Got a "steering fault" message on the Modus today. Power steering no longer operational. Scanner code comes up with "106" which is an ECU fault apparantly. I've checked all fuses and they are fine. I've also disconnected the battery to see if that resets anything overnight. Any thoughts on what else it could be or how much to fix if I need a new steering column (with electric power steering motor)?

  In the past switching off & on the ignition has cleared the problem but not this time. Does this suggest an ECU or ABS module fault and will it be an expensive repair given the age of the car? Does this come within the current MOT scope or will it when changes happen in April? Regards G.S.

  help my vectra starts somtimes then somtimes it wont ive had the ecu tested no fault found.When i turn the key theirs just nothing their. when the engine managment lights comes on then it will start or try to start iv had computers on it and get fault code P1105 barometric sensor but dont know if this fault would stop the car turning over

  Assuming there's nothing in the service about any issue being addressed, is it just a case of a warning light on the dash? HJ talks about dodgy sellers unplugging the ECU (so the warning light does not show?); where is this on a Mk5 Golf, and is it just a case of checking its plugged in?

  So I changed the sensor, I also changed the one on the other side whilst I was at it. I then re-set the ecu but the light still stays on!.....Im totally stumped, and a bit annoyed, Any ideas?

  is it possible to turn off the dip beam lights that automatically turn on when the car starts.I beleive that volvo dealers can do it by resetting part of the cars ecu,however they are likely to charge £40 plus . Is their a DIY option.The function seems to irritate other drivers who often flash thier headlights.Tony

  I am a fairly experienced amateur, but most of my experience on older cars with more machanics than electronics. Does the sensor need any special kit, or does it need programming into the ECU etc Cheers Petrol or Diesel ?

  Every warning light concerning Brakes ABS Tracction Control and a few others have come up on the dash and my mechanic can't get any code read, He has sophisticated code readers, could it be an ECU Failure, the car drives fine but cant get it through an mot because of the ABS lights on, Most Gratefull For Any Help

  (He drove it downhill to our house, not surprisingly it won't drive back up the hill to the local indie's garage) Are these a dealer only item and is a new coilpack a straightforward fix? ( i.e no need to reset ECU? )

  Hi all, my dad has a saab 9-5 1997, when he starts the car the side lights come on at the same time, do you guys reckon the ecu has got corrupted? also he says when he uses the ventilation system, some vents blow cold air and some hot . any help appreciated.Does anybody know of a good independant saab specialist in wolverhampton or nearby.............thanks.

  Morning everybody, Have a problem with my ibiza sport 1.6, it keeps stalling everttime you dip the clutch( can be pulling away or reversing) like the ECU is not detecting it need extra full to stop this happening, the diognostic light isn't coming on on the dash board so i don't know what to do? does any body think this could be a sensor problem? any idears?
