  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Varta battery with Green spot indicator 11 Feb 2012 (Forum)
My 4 year old Golf is fitted with a Varta battery that has a small circular window which is usually green when optimally charged etc. This was the case about three weeks ago when I had a clean around the engine bay, which I do at regular intervals.
  • Disconnect battery to trickle charge? 20 Jan 2012 (Forum)
My 96 MB W124 will stand for 2 weeks before i return to work (did i mention i finished last Friday heh heh), so before return i'd like to give the car a day on the battery charger (4A low setting). Is it vital to disconnect the battery during charging or will the vehicle cope OK, i'm fairly sure the engine management ECU has to 'relearn' following reconnection but i may well be totally wrong.

  • Vauxhall Vectra C - Battery Drain 26 Jan 2011 (Forum)
My Vectra seems to always have a flat battery, which I thought I'd cured when I bought a new one a couple of months back. It used to go flat when the car wasn't used for about 2 weeks, but now it's flat the next day. Checked the alternator and it's charging at about 14v.
  • Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 94 1.1 Major Battery malfunction 27 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I have never had this problem with any of my cars, so it has puzzled me I recently took the old battery out of my 205 as it was dead, and replaced it with a brand new one, the problem came when I connected the negative lead to the battery... as soon as I did, a crackling sound came from the front left of the engine bay, then smoke started coming out of the part that is on the right hand side that had a belt around it and what looks to be a fan inside the casing I have no idea what the part is called, but it is the only thing connected to the radiator with a belt on that side of the engine Bay
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 05 2.0 Won't start - battery problems ? 25 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I now get virtually no response at all, except for some of the dials sweeping. When a similar thing happened to my Focus it turned out to be a duff battery - I've just checked the battery in the 6 and it's reading 11.89V - shouldn't that be enough ? The central locking seems to be working so that hasn't got sluggish yet. The dials illuminate, but it's not possible to get the stereo on.
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee (1994 - 1999) - 1996 4L Battery drain 9 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Can anyone advise what could be the problem? My 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee ( 4 L Petrol)has an intermittent fault (battery drain) If I leave the Jeep over night it has a dead battery in the morning. I have identified the circuit to the A/C heater blower circuit because when I remove the 40 amp fuse there is no problem.
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 04 320d Car start Battery removal/charging/jumping 19 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I have been let down by my warranty providers as I didn't address it within 14days reporting it. Thinking it is the battery, if so does someone know where the battery is to remove it to charge it? or where it is so that I can try to jump start it with leads? If anyone thinks it might be something else then please suggest Many thanks and sorry for my ignorance!
  • Cold cranking amps = amp/hour capacity? 16 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I'm in the process of trying to buy a battery. I want an ordinary car battery of 85-90 Amp/hours but the sales people I speak to on the phone talk of Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) which is a unit I'm not familiar with. From the Internet I know that CCA is "is the number of amps the battery can deliver at 0° Fahrenheit for 30 seconds, while maintaining a voltage of at least 7.2 volts, for a 12 volt battery".

  • Replacing Corroded Battery Cable VW Polo 4 Oct 2006 (Forum)
A new cable costs around £60 so being of the old school I'm wondering is it practical or wise to just cut back the old cable and seal it off and then run another cable from battery to starter bypassing the old one? and save some money.
  • BX Charging fault 12 Jul 2001 (Forum)
They were charging, but were putting out around 16v before they blew. I`ve now put in a new unit, and a new battery, am still getting a 16v reading at the battery. Figures are- ignition off 14v, idle 14.5, Rev it a bit and I`m back to 15,9-16v. I then cut the engine before I burn out this one! I have tried setting the alt. up with a separate battery, isolated from the rest of the car, and get a reading of 14,7v at the battery.

  • Any - Battery Care 23 May 2021 (Forum)
How many minutes of running does an average modern car take to replenish the electrical energy taken from the battery to start its petrol engine from cold? I remember hearing in the past that it took at least 15 minutes, but that was a very long time ago and cars back then didn't have all the electrical accessories and gadgets that they have these days.
