Two things... 9 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Peugeot 205 XLD by the way. Also I've noticed the steering wheel is slightly turned to the right when driving in a straight line... could this be related to the wobble or do I have two different problems...? It vibrates when going fast, ie bewtween 50 and 70, but wobbles at a much slower pace when driving at aropund 20-30, if you let go of the wheel it just rotates back and forth about 1-2cms each way. -
Mondeo Cutting out 2 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Over the past week or two (before the service) the car tends to cut out at low revs when stationary, as far as I know this happens in Neutral or Drive/Reverse. When the engine is started, the revs will go up to about 1100 and then over a period of about 2 - 3 seconds steadily die until the car cuts out. This can happen whether the enigne is hot or cold (I think) Otherwise the car is driving fine. -
ZX drivetrain probs 23 Sep 2002 (Forum)
People reckoned that if i changed my driveshafts that would sort the problem out. Since I don't use the car loads at the moment I have lived with the problem and just been driving carefully. Today I have decided to tackle it. I am prepared to changed the shafts but I just want to be sure. I have jacked the front of the car up and tried to see where the play is. Here is my question. -
Harwich docks 8 Sep 2002 (Forum)
As I was inspecting my BM, they were unloading about 6 Volvo coupes and more Golf, BMW and Mercs off the latest ferry from Cuxhaven! After a good hour inspecting everything was ok and as ordered on the car I set off to drive all the way 'oop north' without registration plates. I didn't get stopped and resisted the temptation to drive through the scameras on the A14 and M6 roadworks although it was very tempting. The BM which is really a 320 d SE Sport is fantastic, complete with all M Sports pack and some nice extras I wanted on it. -
Help needed - Fiesta Wheel Alignment 6 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I noticed that the front nearside was wearing a bit too heavily around the outside edge so I had the alignment checked at ATS who said it was 2 degrees out. One wheel was reading 5 and the other 7. They fixed this and the car was driving fine, but now the steering wheel was off-centre, I had to turn it to the left slightly to make the car go straight, when it was on-centre the car went to the right. Now, after a few visits, and swapping the wheels around, and checking the pressures, they have gradually adjusted the wheels to the left, they are now reading 9 and 8.5 (my understanding is that the further to the left the wheel points, the higher the reading) The car is still driving to the right if I have the wheel on-centre, and the steering feels a bit more woolly around the centre point. -
Why rev counters? 28 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I can perhaps understand in a sports car with a stickshift there might be a role for this thing, but we have 3 autos in our backyard, which, when venturing out of the drive, seldom get out of Drive as it were, except to go backwards. Example: mine is a 4.6 liter V-8 Ford. It has tachometer reading up to 6000 (no red line). Normal engine speed is almost never more than 1,500-1,800 rpm. -
New(er) car 'safety'? 3 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Does anybody know, or know where to find, if the figures are compiled in such a way as to see if these 'safety' devices are actually reducing the number of accidents, or, indeed, INCREASING them as people feel cocooned and drive accordingly? Or are they just reducing the severity from an increasing number of accidents? As I drive a car that's half plastic (Citroen BX) and would probably fold up if it encountered a modern 'safe' tank, I driver VERY defensively.... -
New Polo or New Corolla 2 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Two cars are currently on her list: VW Polo 1.2 S 5 door Toyota Corolla 1.4 T2 5 door Both are approximately £11,300 (you have to add about £1000 to the Polo to bring it up to the spec of the Corolla) We have driven the Polo and are impressed with the build and the drive of it. However, the 3 cylinder engine did sound slightly course. We have sat in the Corolla and we are very impressed with the layout and the overall build quality, but we have yet to find a garage who have a 1.4 to test drive. -
Dying Mercedes Engine 29 Jun 2002 (Forum)
However, over a period of a couple of years, the following problem has become more acute, to the point where it is completely repeatable, yet Mercedes dealers here (in Spain) have been unable to fathom it. If I drive the car every day, there is no problem. It always starts well, rain or shine. However, if I leave the car for a couple of days, and then use it, it starts perfectly, runs for about ten minutes, then the engine just dies when I lift off the throttle. -
Golf brake failure 27 Jan 2002 (Forum)
This is obviously the car's revenge for us talking previously about a sporty coupe while it was listening! It was a filthy night and I was alcoholically unfit to drive. My faith in the design of twin-circuit brakes was complete so I asked Madame to drive home at reduced speed and avoid using the brakes unless necessary. She arrived home safely and I took the car off the road. -

Fuel Injector Cleaner update 5 Dec 2001 (Forum)
For anyone with a petrol car that is a few years old the following might be of interest: 1.8i Cavalier 1993 MY [with catalyser] Week ending 04/11 = 35.8 mpg over 411 miles Week ending 11/11 = 36.1 mpg over 386 miles [Average = 35.95 mpg] After using STP Fuel Injector cleaner in two-thirds of a tank of petrol Week ending 25/11 = 38.1 mpg over 427 miles Week ending 02/12 = 37.7 mpg over 372 miles [Avergae = 37.9 mpg] All 4 weeks very similar driving speed/traffic-jamwise over the same routes. As I drive approx 400 miles per week this represents a difference in just under 3 litres of fuel per week which equates to a saving (at 72.9p/litre) of about 100 quid a year. -

£11 000 VW Golf altrnative 5 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I am about to change my car, I am self employed and drive over 30 000 miles per year, I currently have a P registered Golf 1,8 auto which I dislike driving, however I am tempted by a T registered Golf 1,6 SE I have seen offered for sale in the VW dealer at £ 11,000, Because of all the mileage I do I don't intend to keep this for more than a couple of years at the very most, and I intend hope to avoid the initial depreciation of buying new by buying "nearly new" I have generally been pleased with VWs but I realise that for the money I am about to fork out I could get into a Luxury car such as an Audi A4 BMW 3 series or a C class Merc. -

Shaking minibus 22 Mar 2001 (Forum)
The fault, if any, seems to be in the front suspension as the front starts shaking first and resinates to the whole bus until it's practically shaking itself to bits and steering is almost impossible. I'm a little hesitant to drive it now. Anyone have any ideas or drive an LDV and come across this ? -
Renault Captur 2019 1.3 T - Engine overheating 22 Aug 2025 (Forum)
My partners Captur suddenly displayed an engine fault message and don’t drive. She has noticed the cooling fan continuing to operate for a long time after parking up . The coolant level is fine and no drips on the garage floor. The warning sign cleared on re start Calling Start in the morning for the car to be recovered to the local garage . -
Peugeot 3008 - Drivechain Recall on a Remapped Peugeot? 5 Aug 2025 (Forum)
MXL - Peugeot recalled for software update and higher viscosity oil. They plan to listen to the camshaft drive chain which is apparently at risk of premature wear and test engine pressure. I know the car was previous remapped to bypass the an issue that could not be fixed with the emissions system. -

Citroen Berlingo Multispace. - Warning beeps/light 11 Oct 2024 (Forum)
2005 - Replaced car battery yesterday. Today started up fine. After driving for half an hour or so. 3 beeps intermittently. Then orange warning light came on (diesel - light usually comes on when starting up, goes off after approx 5 seconds, can then start up). Any suggestions what needs to be looked at?
