Who was breaking the law here? 28 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I heard about a rather disturbing motoring in incident in town the other day. A car was parked on a steep hill in a shopping street, and there were 4 children in it. A motorist drew up behind the parked car, which was blocking his way. The man got out of the car and told the oldest of the 4 children, who was about 12 years old, to let the handbrake off the car so it would roll forward out of his way - still with 4 children in it. -
Astra 2001 - MOT time "crooks" but no names 23 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Got a friend who is not very knowledgable on cars and runs an old astra, but maintains it as required. Not sure though if it would pass the mot due to age/wear related items, but booked discounted mot online , took car in and yes, it failed with £400 to put right. -
Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 2007 - Car batteries 25 May 2011 (Forum)
I have just bought a March 2007 Corsa 1.2 petrol "Life". The battery on this car is an RAC 1OO which I have never heard of. It says on the side of the casing that is a Serial number YB1047580. My last car was a 1999 1.2 Corsa and that had the original Vauxhall battery . Why would a 4 year old car need a new battery? -
washing your car? 13 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Do you wash your car or get someone else to? Up here in leeds there just seems to be a car wash everywhere on old petrol station forecourts. The queue is massive at £5.00 for a car standard wash spray some detergent on the wheels, bumper, lights, then moves onto the guy with pressure washer & sponge, then to drying off. -
Warranty via a cold telephone call... 15 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I just wonder if anyone else has received a cold telephone call from a firm offering a car warranty ? this for a seven-year old car. A chap called earlier this evening, went through a load of spiel, told me he would send some information, then expected me to agree to a direct debit mandate. -
Help me spend some money on eBay 9 May 2008 (Forum)
- and things like mileage. In fact, nothing to help someone browsing for an old car. I've already given up on eBay cars because since they animated the first search page it doesn't work for me at all. Does this mean I now can't look at eBay classic cars either? Or am I missing something simple? -
Import car to USA 31 Mar 2008 (Forum)
As an aside, I met a guy who was over here working on secondment. He actually imported his British car and drove it around with no problem on UK license plates for the six months he was here, and then shipped it back. He said it was cheaper and easier than renting a car for six months or having to buy and sell a car here. -
Mondeo for Mrs Lawman? 17 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Who can help pick a car for Mrs Lawman? Her current car (a 10 year old primera) has been sent to its maker, thanks to a blind pensioner in a Micra who drove into the back of her on Wednesday. She and the kids are shaken but unhurt, thank goodness. -

Okay, this is starting to take the michael now. I had an old battery for my Honda Prelude (Which I kept having to recharge once a week). However, I bought a new one for £69.99 from Halfords (One from the new Calcium HCB Range). I bought it on the 5th May. Just tried starting car, and battery is dead. -
New Car for SWMBO 22 May 2006 (Forum)
SWMBO recently decided to learn to drive, she wants to pass her test before her Provisional Licence is more than 26 years old! She seems to be progressing really well and so now she is looking around for a car. We have a people carrier for the whole family. So SWMBO's car must be: New As cheap as practical (maximum £9,000) Sophisticated Sensible enough for 100 mile motorway journeys, i'll use it occasionally Capable of carrying three large and two small people rarely Fitted with a CD player Second problem eldest daughter will be 17 in a few months so car must also be: Cheap to insure Trendy Wife likes the Aygo etc and hates the Panda, daughter hates the Aygo and loves the Panda, although daughter knows that she will lose. -
New Car at Dealer Cost? 16 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I am a complete novice at buying cars having driven the same one for the last 8 years (it was even my old company car). Now I am thinking about buying new Fiat Panda 4x4. I have always said I would never buy a new car due to the high initial depreciation but the dealer who gave me a test drive has said he will let me have one at Dealer Cost if I register it this month. -
To Be Good To Be True? 7 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Seen an ad for a car on the Auto Trader that seems to good to be true. Response from seller is that car is on UK plates RHD 2 years old, but now in germany. He says Car needs to registered in UK and just taxes associated with registering it in UK need to be paid. -
Registered Owner vs Keeper of the car 24 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I ask as I was planning to insure my new Almera in my other half's name, but have me as the registered keeper. Tesco have printed an old cover note which they've sent to our garage that has no mention of me on it, so the garage have refused to register the car to me. So, for now, the car will be registered to, and insured by my other half. -
Damaged Saxo after break-in. 21 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I have an April 2002 Citreon Saxo VTR, and recently, just after the car was four weeks old, the car was broken into. The drivers door lock was popped and the standard CD stereo was taken. Approxiamately £700 worth of damage in total was done. First, does anybody know the safest way so that this does not happen again. -

Bumper to Bumper 11 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Interesting article about TRL, especially the bit about the development of external airbags to protect the "6 year old boys typically involved in pedestrian accidents " and a somewhat different spin on a road test where they tested a 206cc along with a Great Drive (in Suffolk) where there was more emphasis on the scenery than the car, refreshing change really, felt a bit like Phil Llewellyn's style, one time scribe in Car magazine, where the cars were sometimes secondary to the envioroment (note small E) they were used in, always made for an entertaining read. -
Skoda Kodiaq - Can I claim compenstion 14 Dec 2023 (Forum)
If I'm unsuccessful requesting a good will gesture do you think I have a case for taking legal action. The bill is one thing but worse is the inconvenience of not having a car for 3 wks -
Fabia - Skoda cambelt question 6 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Hello I have a Skoda Fabia that is nearly 5 years old. I got an email from the dealership saying that the cambelt was due to be replaced. The car has done 34,000 miles. I rang to book it in and they said it would cost £500 which is far more than I was expecting. -
Toyota vs Kia 7 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Our trusty second car - a 14 year old 1.8 petrol Avensis (approaching 200k miles) will probably need replacing later this year. It’s been utterly dependable - still on the original clutch. The obvious choice in replacing it would be a 1.8 petrol 2014ish Avensis estate - however they’re a bit thin on the ground. -
Lexus IS200 Diesel - Reliability IS200D VS 220D? 12 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I am thinking on buying a IS200 Diesel 2011 model I know the earlier IS 220 D gave a whole host of problems in terms of reliability, but I do not see much online for the later IS200D model Has anyone any experience directly with the 200d? Any threads I find online are quite old, around the time these cars were produced so don't see any recent threads about their reliability... Thanks
