M27 delays today 25 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I was coming home this afternoon, M271 Northbound on to M27 westbound, broken down truck in lane one running through roadworks, took over an hour to get from Nursling Junction of M271 (J2??) to M27 J4, just a few miles that would normally take five minutes tops. It took over 30 minutes from J2 to J3 of M271 !!! -
Renewable energy 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
What if the same stuff was applied to a motorcar. i.e the slightist movement of panels, or floorpan generated sufficient charge to top up batteries. maybe a generator could be combined with the wheels spinning or the suspension working, so that each time a bump was hit, a charge is created and stored. You'd never run out of juice in London with all those speed humps! Anyone else got any ideas on saving planet Erf whilst still being able to enjoy the freedom of a car? -
Volvo 340/360 (1976 - 1991) - C reg, 21,000 miles! 'Offers' - I'm intrigued 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Volvo 360 2.0 in gold (so an embarassing colour, which would make it cheaper!) - has done no mileage in eleven years save for an annual run down the road for the MOT to be done. Basically the lady selling it lost her husband that many years ago and has kept the car but never used it - it is being sold as 'immaculate' so I'm intrigued to know what it may need beyond fluid changes straight away? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1997 1.9 Engine cuts out first time 3 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hi i have a Peugeot 306 D turbo and it starts first time but shortly cuts out afterwards as if it is chocking even when i give it revs - i need to pop the bonnet and prime the fuel line before i can start it again, and once it is running it works fine. I recently used biodiesel for the first time but changed the filter as i know this can become blocked but the aforementioned problem still happens. I have made sure there is no air in the fuel line. -

Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 03 2.2TD - limping home 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
A friend has an 2003 Vectra 2.2 diesel SRi, around 70k on the clock and regularly main dealer serviced. Occasionally, particularly on a long run, the engine management light comes on and it goes into limp-home mode. This can be a bit hairy if it happens in lane 3 of a motorway or if overtaking. If you stop the engine and restart, the fault clears. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 98 1.8 Engine Cutting Out 29 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Recently a friend of mine said he had a similar problem with his 2001 Astra and vauxhall changed the coil pack and it is now running fine. Does anyone have/had a similar problem and was this rectified by replacing Coil Pack? -
MG MGF (1995 - 2002) - 01 1.8 radio codes 23 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I have an MGF ( X reg) and recently had to disconnect the battery. Now I can't find the radio code to get the radio / cd player up and running again. I have tried the previous owner to no avail and my old MG Rover garage tell me they no longer have access to the database where this information was held ( they are now a SEAT garage). Does anyone know how I can find this number? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2001 HDI - whining noise when revving, EGR/Turbo? 27 Mar 2008 (Forum)
However the picture of the engine bay that ive seen shows the turbo in this position connected to the EGR. Im wondering if this could be coked up? Any advise to make it run better/quieter would be appreciated. Its MOT time next week thanks -
True costs of a loaded' car? 24 Mar 2008 (Forum)
She finds the PAS an unnecessary extra. It would appear that besides adding to the purchase price it also adds to the onging running costs. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 2.0L petrol, 128 bhp, difficult starting 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)
hi, my 2.0 focus is proving increasingly difficult to start from cold - it typically takes 2-3 attempts (starter motor sounds normal) before it catches, and usually only with a dab of throttle (which I know isn't the best way to start cars...). Once started, it runs fine, also starts fine when engine warm. No fault codes showing when I ran it through diagnostic equipment at local garage. HT leads? Battery? - Don't want to to start replacing items at random before having half an idea what the cause might be! -
Recommend a good electric tyre/air pump? 13 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I treated myself to an electric tyre / air pump from H'fords a couple of years ago. Now, SWMBO managed to run over it on the drive this afternoon. Yes, I know...... Tee blinkin' Hee ! Naturally, apparently this is my fault for leaving it there as opposed to hers for not seeing a largish brightly coloured object in plain view in broad daylight etc etc ! -
Volkswagen T4 Caravelle (1994 - 2003) - 2002 2.5TD Engine Management light-generic reader? 2 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Hi My engine management light has came on breifly today in my VW Transporter. Every time this has happened in various vehicles its always cost much more to run the software than it has to get the part. Last time I had it done on the VW I think it was ~£70 Will the generic readers on ebay do the trick? e.g.: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLKSWAGEN-AUDI-SEAT-SKODA-CAR-FAULT-CODE-READER-U281_W0QQitemZ120213408937QQihZ002QQcategoryZ30921QQcmdZViewItem P.S. -
Toyota Yaris II/Vitz (2006 - ) - (2006-) D4D Ride Quality 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Another factor which must contribute to this harshness is the tyre pressures. Why is it necessary for the front tyres to be inflated to 36psi? Has anyone any experience of running at lower pressures and has anyone found other ways of improving the ride quality? -
Effect of speed on emissions 13 Jan 2008 (Forum)
A development of the "Effect of Speed on economy" thread, though a different point: This is a little simplistic and does not account for appropriate gears etc however an engine does not run at it's most efficient at very low revs, i.e low road speeds, therefore while increased drag and rolling resistance will generally cause it to consume more fuel at higher road speeds the engine is likely to be operating nearer peak efficiency at higher road speeds and therefore will be more effectively burning the fuel it is using and thus be emitting much less in the way of hydrocarbons albeit while producing a little more in the way of CO2. -
Accurate Fuel Gauges 22 Dec 2007 (Forum)
What I want is a simple measure of capacity, I do not want a 'fill up now, fill up now!!' gauge. I do not want to feel fear that I may run out because I do not know how much is left, all I want is accuracy; is this impossible? Comments welcome. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - T reg 2.0 petrol - engine judder and hesitation 18 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I have a T reg 406 2.0 petrol estate (facelift model) which runs fine when cold but as the engine warms up to temperature the car has an intermittent judder or hesitation when driving. It almost feels like a missfire or momentary loss of power and seems to happen completely at random. -
Editing of IHAQ Vols 212 and 213. 10 Dec 2007 (Forum)
JBJ's response to Cheddar's camera question has now been tacked onto the thread within 212 and therefore runs logically. I hid the Bank Branch question under the stairs for a while and then took it out, dusted it off and put it into Vol 213 once the paint had dried on it. It all took some time 'cos I lost the glue pot - your posts weren't deleted or changed in anyway just stuck to my fingers for a while ! -
Skoda Superb (2002 - 2008 ) - cambelt-siezure 9 Dec 2007 (Forum)
if you need more ammo , sign me up. my car (skoda superb 1.8t classic) just siezed up at 45,000 right after a service,2weeks. i don`t blame the garage i personally checked the oil when it went it was clean and plenty of it but we`ve had it 2 and a half years with skoda services until it was out of warranty and all it does is the school run and a bit of shopping surely it should`nt just die like that if i`d wanted to throw money away i`d have got into gambling. many thank`s if you can resolve this or shed some light or even point the way to something else. -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 54 plate 1.6 bonnet lock faulty 1 Dec 2007 (Forum)
i cant believe it, i have just fixed the boot lock on this car and straight away the bonnet lock breaks on the same day, i am putting the key in, i turn it left it just clicks and nothing happens...bonnet stays locked, it worked the day before without problem wasnt stiff or anything like that, as far as i can see into the grill it has a short flexible cable(about as thick as a pencil) running from the key barrel to the bonnet release mechanism(which i cant see). there is nothing i can see that is obviously wrong, anyone else had this problem and knows what the fix is?. regards, graham.
