  • Classics join Prestige at Manheim Auctions, Bruntingthorpe, this week 12 Oct 2010 (News)
    A 1970 Jaguar E-type will be competing for bids with a 2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, while other stunners include a 2008 Aston Martin DBS, a 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder and a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte. Zaiga Jinkinson, Auction Centre Manager said: "We are privileged to be able to offer a range of such quality. This gives us a great opportunity to showcase our unique proposition to specialist vendors and buyers, who are attending in ever increasing numbers.

    It could, however, easily be returned to standard road specification.  Another rarity is the 1998 RHD Maserati Ghibli GT (£9750-£10,750). Maserati only ever built 212 of the GT versions, and the UK would have seen a mere handful of RHD examples. This is one of the last registered. Finally, the sale also includes a 1951 AC 2 litre Sports Saloon (£5000-7000), and a 1953 Jaguar XK120 which is ready for restoration (£28,000-34,000).

    Ford's Coupe and Cabiolet display served up some unusual items, such as an odd hump-backed Fiesta, while Maserati's centenary was marked extensively - not only in the Zagato exhibition, but also with Maserati's collection, that included the 300S Birdcage, Khamsin and the new Ghibli saloon. Finally, we loved the Volvo at Speed display that served up half-a-dozen Volvo touring and rally cars - the most iconic for enthusiasts of a certain age was the 850 T5-R Estate prepared by Tom Walkinshaw for the British Touring Car Championship during the 1990s.  The visitor numbers have yet to be confirmed, but the organisers, SIHA, did tell us that it looked like they were up from 2013 - which was already a record year with 190,000 attending the show.

  • £1m classic super car parts ‘treasure trove’ uncovered 18 Jun 2018 (News)
    The spares were discovered in a container by a specialist auction house. The find includes high-end spares from Italian marques such as Ferrari, Maserati and Abarth and plenty of parts for rarer models such as the 250 SWB, 250 GTO, 275, Competition Daytona, F40 and 512LM, along with Maserati 250F and various other Italian competition cars.  Many of the parts are still in their original wooden packing cases dating from the 1960s, or in their original boxes wrapped in oiled paper. The exact location of the container has not been revealed.

    The London Classic Car Show returns to ExCel London on 14-17 February 2019 and part of its classic car auction, courtesy of the show’s official auction partner, Coys, will see a wide array of vehicles go under the hammer on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 February, including stunning cars lovingly owned by celebrities Cilla Black and David Beckham, along with concours-ready classics from Aston Martin, Porsche and Maserati.

    This backs up the current market trend for an improving classic car market. Top seller was the 1962 Maserati 3500 GTI Vignale convertible, selling for €553,500 - a world record price for the model. and well above the pre-sale estimate of €300,000-400,000. One of 242 examples built, this rare matching numbers GT car has been beautifully restored.

    I do enjoy the circuits in America a lot though too because they have so much character, with the best for me being Road America.' During the weekend Sir Stirling Moss was also reunited with a Maserati 250F (below) – being run by American driver Tom Price – to mark the famous 1956 Monaco Grand Prix victory by Moss in a sister car. Sir Stirling also returned to the Credit Suisse Drivers Club on Saturday morning for a fascinating and amusing fireside chat with Henry Hope-Frost to recall his competition career, including his memories of racing, and winning, at the Principality in both the Maserati in 1956, and a Lotus 18 in 1960 and 1961.

    New grids announced for this year’s event include Classic F3 and the Mustang Celebration Trophy, with Friday seeing qualifying races for every class followed by ten races each on the Saturday and Sunday. One of the highlights of the 2014 Silverstone Classic is the Maserati Centenary Parade, thanks to the decision to make this historic Italian manufacturer this year’s ‘Celebration Marque’. Sunday lunchtime will see a cavalcade featuring a record number of Maseratis, with competition and road cars parading around the full Silverstone circuit.

      The ex-Fangio car becomes the most valuable motor vehicle ever sold at auction, beating the previous record of £10,086,400 set by a Ferrari in 2011. Bonhams also set a new world record highest price for a Maserati at auction, when a 1955 300S Sports-Racing Spider sold for £4,033,500. The previous record was £2,251,520 set in 2012. The result means Bonhams now holds the world records for the following marques at auction: Aston Martin (£3,200,000), Austin-Healey (£843,000), Bentley (£5,000,000), Maserati (£4,033,500), Mercedes-Benz (£19,601,500) and Rolls-Royce (£4,700,000).

Mulliner (€240,000 to €300,000).

    The collection, which ranges from the early days of motoring through to the 1970s, has been left untouched for 50 years. Bugatti, Hispano-Suiza, Talbot-Lago, Panhard-Levassor, Maserati, Ferrari, Delahaye, Delage – the collection includes cars from all these famous marques. But the headline cars are a Ferrari 250GT SWB California Spider and a Talbot Lago T26 that used to belong to King Farouk.

    Mini will, of course, remind us of the sensational win of the rally Monte Carlo 50 years ago. The centre stage in Hall Six will be hosting a special display of Maserati and Zagato sports cars. There will be a selection of Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia and Maserati fitted with the extraordinary and often eccentric bodywork by Zagato. Mercedes-Benz will gather the biggest display of sports and race cars to be seen outside of their works collection: the vast area of Hall One will host the display ‘Magical Moments – 120 Years of Motorsport’ with 36 cars.
  • Maserati Khamsin sells for 50% over its top estimate at Historics 7th March Auction. 9 Mar 2015 (News)
    At least 21 cars made more than their estimates at Historics sale on 7 th March; 11 of them significantly more. The biggest gain was shown by a 1979 Maserati Khamsin 4.9V8, estimated at £75,000- £80,000, but actually sold for £128,800 inclusive, more than 50% over its top estimate. A 1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 S2 roadster did well too, making £12,400 over its top estimate of £66,000.
