Generational attitudes to `Bad Driving`wartime 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I don`t think his generation would have been anywhere near as tolerant at some of the bad driving that we have discussed recently, do you? All I can remember is that as a kid, we effectively had the `Armed Forces` as neighbours and in our own homes. A Commando, Army Major, and Airforce, my mates father was a Tank commander in the Western desert. -
Motorway Driving 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I consider myself to be an experienced driver (don?t we all?) but I felt helpless in the conditions that prevailed. Is there a driving technique that is recommended for such conditions? -
Drink driving crackdown 1 May 2007 (Forum)
Whilst I am concerned at the creeping intrusion of government into every aspect of of our lives (ID cards, biometric passports, chips in dustbins, road pricing and consequent tracking etc) I cant help but think that a purge on drink driving similar to that on speeding would contribute more to road safety. Help! Ford Mondeo Zetec problem 10 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Recently bought a high milage Ford Mondeo zetec 2.0 diesel TDCI (year: 2004, milage 78,000). I've only had it 2 weeks, did one long drive (70 miles) with no problems. Did the same drive the following week but in extremely heavy traffic and warm weather. About half an hour of sitting in traffic I noticed a burning smell coming from the car (no warning lights on dash). -
I had only had my licence 28 hours 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The legal limit is 35. Police today said they believed the driving ban to be the quickest ever recorded in Suffolk. Richards admitted driving while over the limit and was banned from the roads from a year, reduced to nine months if he takes part in a drink-driver rehabilitation course. -
Driving through a flood 1 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Close behind someone else or let them completely through and the waves die down first? I'm sure I've read something about not driving turbo diesels through water, but I am totally expecting to have dreamt it. Do you still have to test your brakes or is that a bit of an old fashioned notion these days? What am I damaging if I get water in my engine? -
BMW 1-series disappointment 10 Jun 2006 (Forum)
When driving the car I felt very cramped; my left elbow kept hitting the door trim and visibility felt very poor with a claustraphobic feel to the interior of the car. Anything over a 60km drive was a bit of a trial. -
Rover 416 1997 coolant question 30 Aug 2005 (Forum)
After driving the car the coolant level sits about one inch above the max line in the coolant expansion tank but if I sit in the car and wait for the cooling fan to cut in the coolant level is at the top of the expansion tank with no air to be seen in the tank but it drops down if I drive the car a few miles back to about one inch above the max line is this right. -

Legal Drivers that shouldn't be! 25 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Some friends of mine have a next-door neighbour who, quite frankly, shouldn't be on the road. She is a pensioner aged almost 80 who her late husband would not allow to drive when he was alive. Now that he is dead, she drives but is a total menace. In the last two weeks she has: (1) Smashed into my friend's gate / gatepost, damaging them and her own Fiesta (2) Scratched, indeed, impaled her Fiesta on her own fence by driving too close to it in an attempt to park on her own, ample, driveway. -

*Golk MK4 Vibration URGENT HELP required 17 Dec 2002 (Forum)
s coming from the passenger side and gets worse when you speed up round right hand bends. I then changed the drive flange, didn?t work. Then put the standard suspension back on, the vibration wasn?t as violent, but still there. One garage said it was the diff bearings. I took it to VW and they diagnosed it as the passenger drive side drive shaft. -
Evil automobile 12 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Apologies to all the people at South Mimms services who got deafened yesterday evening when it finally fired and I revved it a few times to clear the plugs. At least the French tourists appreciated it. I doubt I will ever drive a more scary car - I've never been so frightened in my life, although it actually turned out to be fine once it was running, if a little vague in corners. And as for the sound - just beautiful. Can't wait to drive it again, but I must get that starting problem fixed. -

Honda CRV - Someone has scratched my windscreen - need advice 28 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Once we had done this I simply dropped him off home, drove home to my cul-de-sac, parked said car in drive and then saw the scratch on Saturday morning when I got in the car again. So, I drive out to meet some friends on Saturday, rant at them about this scratch on the driver's side - it was a bright sunny day with clear blue sky - then drive home, parked car in drive again, did not look at it on Sunday but got in the car yesterday to go to a meeting and right in front of my driver's view was an almost identical scratch, albeit it feinter and thinner, on the driver's side of the windscreen directly in front of the steering wheel. -
Any - Tyre tread depth needed in Germany 12 May 2025 (Forum)
I'm intending to drive in Germany this summer and need to know how much tread I must have on my tyres. I found an old thread on here that said categorically that a minimum of 3mm is needed, and even if you are on that limit you won't be allowed to drive away Searching online I find that the minimun legal tread depth is 1.6mm, same as it is here Does that mean the German authorities are enforcing a recommended tread depth and not the legally permitted minimum. -
Any - Car for the Mrs. 30 Dec 2024 (Forum)
Good morning backroomers, Hope everyone is well? The Mrs takes her driving test tomorrow after years of me nagging for her t learn to drive. Shes 41 and is doing it in an automatic (no problem, my last 3 cars have been auto). Im reluctant to put her on my insurance as I think my car is way to big and powerful for her at the minute being a new driver (assuming she passes). -
Genesis gv80 Vs Mazda CX-60 11 May 2024 (Forum)
I've always had Mazda's mostly the Mazda 3 but need to size up now and the CX-60 would be ok for our needs but am thinking if waiting for the CX-80 to be realised as it gives us more space but I've also test drive and checked out the genesis gv80 which I did prefer the interior was beautiful and it was more comfty to drive in but I don't know how reliable they are and have read mixed reviews on Hyundai since I know they own genesis.
