Next Exciting Round of BTCC at Croft 18th/19th June 6 Jun 2011 (News)
Gordon Shedden, Jason Plato and Mat Jackson shared the wins in yesterday’s (Sunday) three action-packed Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship races at a damp Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire. But it is Matt Neal who continues to lead the title race which now heads to the daunting Croft circuit in North Yorkshire on Sunday 19 – that’s despite a highly controversial last corner, last lap clash with team-mate Shedden in Oulton’s second race that put them both off the track as they fought for the victory. -
Porsche Carrera Cup Race Season Set to be More Exciting Than Ever 26 Mar 2011 (News)
“Until last week I’d not sat in a racing car since last October, but it came right with the new tyres,” he said. Leading the chase of the Scot in Pro-Am2 was Championship newcomer Keith Webster (Red Line Racing). “That’s a good starting point; I was just getting to grips with the circuit,” he said, as Steve Parish (Motorbase Performance) completed the top three in Pro-Am2. -

I also encourage garages, especially independents, to sign up to the Code of Practice for Service and Repair, which was launched last year and has already seen much support across the industry." Peter Stratton, Trading Standards Institute motor trade lead officer "Motor Codes has the full support of the Trading Standards Institute and we look forward to working together to improve protection for motorists further. We applaud the hard work that has been put into making the New Car Code such a success and urge all those engaged in this sector to continue to commit to this Code and improve standards for consumers." -

Alpine triumphs at Concours de l’Ordinaire 14 Aug 2018 (News)
With the bland leading the blind, the hard-fought judging of the 50 vehicles displayed on the immaculate Festival of the Unexceptional lawn saw the six-strong judging panel of mundane motoring masterminds – including TV’s Edd China and Jon Bentley – admiring a selection of taupe, brown and yellow coloured family saloons and estates, many equipped with rubber flooring, squidgy vinyl seats, no radio, manual wind-up windows and ‘genuine’ faux Formica wood inserts. After a session of deliberation, the six judges emerged and the winners were announced to a large, expectant and sun-tanned crowd, with the 2018 Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional winners being as follows: Best in Show: 1977 Chrysler Alpine (Guy Maylam) Second Place: 1981 Datsun Bluebird GL saloon (Kev Curtis) People’s Choice: 1982 Fiat Strada 65CL (Gavin Bushby) Junior Judges Choice: 1979 Vauxhall Cavalier L 2-door saloon (Jason Himpson) Best Dressed: Edward Morley (1972 Renault 16 TS) Feast of the Unexceptional/Best Picnic: Julie Gandolfi (1983 Mercedes-Benz 200T) The Best in Show winning pre-Talbot 1977 Chrysler Alpine was an exceptional example of a truly unexceptional car, fully restored and finished off just the night before the 2018 FOTU by Chrysler/Simca enthusiast Guy Maylam. -
Daewoo Finally Sorted Out 17 Oct 2002 (News)
Daewoo owners unable to get their cars serviced or repaired through lack of parts can take some small comfort from the following news release:- After years of staring bankruptcy in the face, followed by protracted take-over talks with a number of the world's leading car companies, the Daewoo brand is on the move again - under new management. A deal signed with US giant General Motors at the end of April was finalised today and the new GM Daewoo Auto and Technology Co is up and running, selling the South Korean cars around the world. -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 9-5-2015 9 May 2015 (News)
The MoT and car tax expired at the end of July last year and it has been stored on grass since then (I believe the engine has been turned over monthly since then). I had a look at it at the weekend and started it with jump leads; the front discs looked rusty and the front tyres looked like they could do with replacing. The oil looked okay and the drive we had in first and reverse gear seemed to indicate no other problems (although the owner thinks that it will need a new clutch soon). -
Used Van Buying Guide: Volkswagen Caddy 2010-2015 16 Jun 2025 (News)
Mileages on Caddys in the classifieds between £4000-£6000 vary wildly, don’t be afraid of higher mileage examples, indeed, short drop vehicles with lower mileages may well have lead harder lives. Look out for a good, complete service history and desirable options like the + pack that brings a full height bulkhead, and the electric pack that adds electric windows. The 1.6-litre 102PS engine absolutely dominates the bigger Caddy Maxi (the 75PS version being the pick with the regular Caddy) in the classifieds, it no poor relation to the 2.0-litre TDI. -
Used Van Buying Guide: Berlingo 2008-2016 22 Nov 2019 (News)
. Maintenance on a Citroen Berlingo Over time Citroen and all other van manufacturers are pushing servicing schedules ever further, but experts suggests that the Berlingo is worth visiting a garage every 12,000 miles or 12 months for an oil and filter change, any more potentially leading to damage in the long run. A general service won’t break the bank, being around £100, a larger one about double that, depending on your garage’s labour rate, of course. They’re fairly simple things, too, so any competent mechanic can work on them. -
Secret documents revealed: The future of BL 8 Apr 2013 (News)
Workers were asked to vote for the 1980 Corporate Plan, which incorporated these changes to union working practices, as well as agreeing to 13 full- or partial-factory closures and the loss of 25,000 jobs. And in the lead up to the vote, Margaret Thatcher's policy adviser, John Hoskyns said, 'the result of the ballot will clearly be a material - but by no means the only - consideration, in considering whether to commit further sums of taxpayers' money.' -

Rover P8 & P9 2 Aug 2013 (News)
The other problem for Spen King was that not only was the P5 an ageing car, its engine was also past its sell-by date and even though straight six versions of the P7 were produced, there was never any serious consideration given to the use of this power unit in any upcoming car that would lead Rover into the Seventies. Six cylinder versions of the Rover 2000 engine were, however, developed and displacing 2967cc managed to produce a more-than-healthy 150bhp even in single carburettor form. -
Used Van Buying Guide: Vivaro 2001 - 2014 16 Jun 2025 (News)
PK5, PK6, PF1 and PF6 manual transmissions are prone to failure, due to a build issue. The pre-load on the bearings are massively over torqued, leading to failure in gearboxes with mileages as low as 20,000 miles. Once these are repaired, and correctly installed they should last indefinitely - any Vivaros that might have had a problem certain to have been repaired by now. -
Used Van Buying Guide: Toyota Hilux 2004-2015 16 Jun 2025 (News)
Check that the propshaft has been greased, the couplings still have greasing points, as they’re typically overlooked when servicing. If the front one dries up it can lead to it failing and cracking the gearbox casing, which will result in an expensive fix. It’s rare, though. A full service will typically cost about £250 +VAT, keep on top of that and the Hilux shouldn’t present any issues. -
Used Pick-Up Buying Guide: Ford Ranger 2011-2020 22 Nov 2019 (News)
What to watch As with any four-wheel drive commercial vehicle, have a good look underneath for any damage due to off-road scuffs and knocks. It’s worth checking the rear driveshafts, too, as the gearshift cables can contact them, leading to loss of drive - this was the subject of a recall of vehicles built between Nov 2015 and Feb 2016. Any sluggishness of response and high fuel economy might be related to the mass airflow sensor. -

Frazer Nash sells for £236,000 at Brightwells auction 14 May 2015 (News)
Not bad for a model which usually struggles to fetch even half that amount.b An almost equally smart 1975 P6 3500S with only 30,300 miles which raised a mighty £9900. Brightwells’ lead consultant, James Dennison said the sale achieved an 80% clearance rate. 'There is plenty of life in the classic vehicle sector and there are no shortage of willing buyers out there only too keen to have a nice old car or motorcycle in the garage rather than a lump of cash mouldering in a bank account,' he said.
Friday concept: Austin AR6 Prototype 23 Aug 2013 (News)
This new engine was totally unrelated to the K-Series that was designed for the 1973 ADO74 , and incorporated many lessons learned during the ECV3 Programme. Unlike the Metro, and following the lead of the Maestro and Montego, the new car was developed with a conventional McPherson strut/rear coil suspension system, which would no doubt be honed to a level of competence shared with its bigger brothers.
