2010 vauxhall zafira 1.9 CDTi diesel - ZAFIRA DIESEL 1,9 CDTi GOING INTO LIMP MODE 22 Sep 2023 (Forum)
As it is a diesel, I always try to avoid too many short journeys an do try to give the car a good run every few weeks including the motorway runs with revs over 3,000 rpm. As well as doing several steep hill climbs in 3rd gear with revs over 3,000 rpm to help clear the exhaust system. So I am assuming this is related to the DPF (diesel particle filter) on the exhaust system. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 05 1.6 Loss of power 10 May 2021 (Forum)
Right from the very start the engine management light would come on and I would get - anti pollution fault - on the display, this would come and go intermitantly, the car was running totally fine whether the fault was showing or not. Eventually I got it checked, the fault code was cleared off the ecu and the fault didn't return for several months, when eventually it returned, the car was running as well as it always has, and the fault would show itself once every few weeks and then disappear again. -
Honda CR-V - Best oil brand for my Honda crv 17 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Now in the past I havent had the best track record of servicing our cars. Then wondering why they break down or run rough. I really want to service this Honda well and give it the beat oil you can get. (After watching YouTube videos of castrol and cars running million miles with them it seems case closed) I emailed Honda UK and the recommended castrol edge 0w30. -
Testing a Kuga PHEV 27 Jun 2020 (Forum)
This is a real benefit, with performance on a par with my 2.0 petrol Q2. I think I'd gain a bit on the long runs up the A303, but a great deal on the many short 8-10-mile round trips wch could all be done on electric power. I'd have to install a wall charger at home, but this would soon pay for itself. Ride and handling seemed fine, as you'd expect from a Ford. -

TOYOTA CAMRY 2.4 VVTI PETROL YR 2002 - Poor starting of Toyota Camry 2.4 VVTI (Year 2002) 30 Jul 2018 (Forum)
When you try again after perhaps another attempt or sometimes twice, it will start. Otherwise the car runs well. The engine warning light is not swtched on.. Steve Pearl, Toyota Mechanic's Assistant Have you checked the fuel supply? And are all the spark plugs working? You Yes, all plugs are new and the recommended ones. -
Peugeot 2008 - Car for part exchange with (no) problem? 7 Jun 2018 (Forum)
At another hand are they would be able to reverse the deal if they find that out later on but still did not ask about it at the time of part exchanging it? There is no sings of oil burn while the engine runs at all passed 3 MOT and 3 services in the past without any co2 emissions trouble . Apparently is due a nature of cambelt setup placed in the oil (yep), and because of that engine runs ecologic oil to not contaminate this cambelt and is very thin like a water so it goes through valves from time to time but also is burned. -
BMW 5 Series - Will my BMW 5 Series handle the bumpy farm track? 3 Oct 2015 (Forum)
(thankfully it's an SE model but clearance is still a concern) I would loathe to trade in my new bimmer at this stage as I'm loving it and have committed to pro sat nav and folding mirror retrofits in the coming weeks. I'd also rather avoid investing in a second "run around" car. So, I've been researching options for winter wheels and tyres in the hope this may help alleviate the above concerns. I'm currently on 225/55R17 run flats. My research to date has suggested investing in a new set of wheels & tyres for the winter (especially due to the single track farm road I now need to use on a daily basis), but that I may want to consider keeping these year round until I move house again. -
Merc W124 a good buy then? 1 Aug 2014 (Forum)
So is it a good idea to buy a good but old mercedes? Such as a relatively low mileage W124 with the run-for-ever diesel engine, if there is still such a thing available, or a German built previous model C class rather than a newer model and more expensive Mercedes or a more modern but lesser marque? A close friend of twenty years or more has always bought a new Merc, run it for three years and then repurchased. -
VW polo 1.4 hatchback 2004 101,000 miles - Safe to drive 206 miles and back? 26 Jul 2014 (Forum)
The mechanic cleared it and advised I go on a long journey as it may be due to the car not getting long enough runs. I did this and 2 years later I'm still with the same engine light. Earlier this year I was driving at 40mph and the car began to lose power and the speed was dropping dramatically. The engine light and EPC light both lit up so I pulled over and stopped the engine. -
Peugeot 307 SW - Peugeot 307 SW - Loss of turbo power 6 Sep 2013 (Forum)
It’s running sluggishly, although just about bearable when driving around town. If I’m on a motorway run and I try to blat it uphill, it seriously loses power. There are no Engine Management Lights on and it’s not in limp home mode as get the revs to over 3500rpm if I have to. -

HJ; answers - repairs 11 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I want to know why the repairers did not spot this and I also know that they did not drive the vehicle on a test run because I left it with with them with no fuel and that they did not put any fuel in. What redress do I have against the repairers? I feel that they have endangered my life through negligence. Would I be able to sue and if so, how should I go about this? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.6 Overheat Problem 19 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Short summary of story so far : Was advised engine was knackered (as in replacement engine required), but found a place who said they could repair it, 2 new pistons and piston rings. All was well for 3 weeks but then started running rough. Noticed that the temp guage was acting almost like the speedo, anything above 50mph it would hit the end of the red, then when I slowed down it would go back to the normal position. Took it back to the mechanic who checked a few things and said it was OK now, took it out for a test spin and the engine blew. -

Peugeot 306 TD Phase 2 1997 - Peugeot 306 TD Phase 2 - Starting problems 7 Mar 2012 (Forum)
This has not just happened on cold mornings, but also if the car had been left for more than 2 hours without the engine running. Things that I have done, in order; Checked voltage to glow plugs, showing roughly 12V on all Changed glow plugs Checked that the stop valve on the pump (lucas) was working, did this by listening out for it. -
BBC - Tip Gear 12 Jan 2012 (Forum)
That was a mistake, the Tip instead of Top but I left it because its appropriate. The show has run out of ideas and is getting tired, much like JC. Indian diplomats have complained to the BBC about a "disgusting" episode of Top Gear filmed in the country. -
Suzuki Grand Vitara - Grand Vitara 1.9ddis buying advice - dpf concerns 15 Aug 2011 (Forum)
The car will be used primarily by my wife for commuting 10 miles each way to work on a mixture of village and 40 -60mph bypasses and the expected fuel saving against the focus we will also be doing 1hour long journeys at weekends on mixed roads again but with opportunity to run at higher revs, also during the week/every 200miles or so we could run at higher revs without going too far out of our way. On paper the figures stack up with an expected improvement on fuel economy against our focus of upto 120+miles extra to a tank at least. -
any - In praise of roadworks.. 19 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Yes, I know , almost treason to admit, BUT... the local major roadworks are running efficiently ; These being the Henlys Corner ( junction of North Circular, A1 and A598 Finchley Road ) improvements here in North London . This is just down from J2 of the M1 , a pretty major junction. and a snarl up since the very long overdue improvements began in Feb, scheduled for finish in December this year . -
