  • Are future classics a thing of the past? 15 Jun 2016 (News)
Indeed, the 2014 BMW 3-series that propels me to work and back every day is, to the technologically-minded, an insanely wonderful machine. And therein lies the rub. So advanced is the technology in today’s cars that with them comes built-in obsolescence. How on earth will a home enthusiast be able to maintain a car like that 25 years from now? And why would they, when getting the car to talk to computerised diagnostics will make it uneconomically viable to repair long before any well-maintained ‘oldcar ever would have been.

And there’s a cooling system problem (wasn’t there always with this engine?) Eventually they manage to fix the cooling issue and turn their attention to the look of the car. Flat aluminium panels give the doors the appearance of a rally car, and go-faster stripes outside give some eye appeal. Then all that remains is to sell the car at a profit. This is the last of the 10 part series all about is finding an unloved old car, bringing it back to life, and attempting to double the investment.
  • Suzuki SJ Gets the Treatment in 'Flipping Bangers' 14 May 2019 (News)
A lichen coated Suzuki SJ gets hauled out of a scrapyard to be fixed and flipped by Will Trickett and Gus Gregory in Friday’s episode of Flipping Bangers on BLAZE at 9.00pm. To make a living from buying, sorting and selling old and unloved cars, Will and Gus have to reckon on doubling the purchase price on resale. And, for added jeopardy, they only give themselves 5 days to get the job done, starting an online auction of the car as soon as it reaches their workshop.

  • Small cars in the classifieds 21 Jun 2011 (News)
But even so, people often search around for cars in this price bracket, particularly new drivers. But, fret not. Here’s a Ford Fiesta 1.25. It’s getting on a bit, at 14 years old, but it looks reasonable, has covered a fairly low 61,000 miles and is taxed and tested.
  • A Grand Monday: Lada Samara 10 Oct 2016 (News)
It’s easy to laugh at the Lada Samara, not least because the fit, finish and build quality are undeniably dreadful. But the car was a massive leap forward for the Russian maker. Launched in its homeland in 1984 as the rather more sexy-sounding Lada Sputnik, it would be another four years before Lada - or VAZ, as the company was known in Russia - would be able to export the car, such was the pent-up demand for the new model in its home market.

The challenge comes from starting an online auction immediately the car arrives to get it gone in 5 days time.
  • A Grand Monday: Mercedes-Benz C240 Sport 5 Nov 2018 (News)
Alas, although Mercedes spent a fortune putting customers' cars right, the rust issue was inherent, and today a W202 is a rare sight - indeed, it's much less prevalent in terms of survival numbers than its predecessor, even though the newest 190E is now a quarter of a century old.  Finding a cherished one, then, is quite a thing - and this week's pick of the small ads is just that.
