My Scenic 1.9dci has 17k miles and due its service at 18k. It has just came up with a warning message - "Change Oil Soon". Is this just a standard message when it nears its service due, or should I be trying to bring the service forward and not using the car till then? -
Seized distributor - vw golf, mk2 18 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The distributor on my Golf Mk 2 has seized in the block, and I can\'t get the timing right. Can anyone suggest how to free it without getting penetrating oil into places it shouldn\'t be? Or would it be OK to use penetrating oil then do an oil change afterwards? -

Type of Oil 30 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Time for an oil change on my Seat Toledo. Its a 1996 GT 16v (engine from a golf mark 2) Is it worth my while running it on synthetic/semi synthetic? I am aware that sometimes this can damage the engine (particular seals) for some types of cars. -

2007 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI 90BHP - 1.6 Ford Focus turbo power loss 5 May 2015 (Forum)
Hello all, I had the standard Ford Focus turbo failure. I'm pretty sure it was due to a blocked oil strainer. I went for the refurbished BTN turbo with the fitting kit including the new oil feed pipe, banjo bolts, gaskets and copper seals. I also changed the oil filter and changed the oil after having totally cleaned out the sump. -
Mercedes Vito 110 CDi - Mercedes Vito 110 CDi - Gear change issues 21 Dec 2014 (Forum)

Vauxhall 2.0 CDTI - 20,000 mile service intervals - Vauxhall 7 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Hello, I have a vauxhall 2.0 cdti Astra GTC, I notice in the service book it says to change the oil every 12 months or 20,000 miles. As long as i have owned the car i get the oil and filter changed every 10,000 miles, along with a full service at each 20,000 miles. Has anyone ever seen or heard of problems with these cars if they are serviced every 20,000 miles as the handbook states? -

Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 01 1.0 Oil warning light 6 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I put 2 litres of 15/40 oil in. The car then started up and drove without problems. A lot quieter, with smoother gear change. Maybe less power when you get to max revs. in 5th. Maybesome vibration when pulling away at low revs in 2nd. -
Award winners 14 May 2007 (Forum)
A certain garage which did my wife's MOT was listed as winning an industry award (Guess I am not allowed to name the exact one) as "best independent garage". Yet they seemed to have charged us a large amount of labours (5 hours for 3 small welds, oil change, flexible pipe change and adjustment to brake pedal - by my reckoning that is 3 - 3.5 hours just for welding). Then becuase they had changed the oil (to get through MOT) owner wanted to charge us extra £100 for a service (Oil, filter and labour already charged), despite the fact we said e did not want one. -
Land Rover Discovery 4 - Slight Transmission Oil Leak on MoT Adviso 28 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Is it relatively easy for me to check if the leak is severe when inspecting the car and am I right in thinking that a transmission oil change could potentially cure the leak? How much would a transmission oil change be and in the worst case scenario, what's the likely cost of resolving a serious transmission oil leak? Many thanks in advance for your help. -
tyota aygo fire. - engine lubrication 17 May 2013 (Forum)
My wife has purchased a brand new aygo fire, at it first service it has had an oil change but contrary to the information supplied in the owners handbook the oil for the first change was not 0w20 as stipulated by toyota but 5w-30 as shown on the service record.it is not a typing mistake, the oil is thicker than 0W20. will this cause a problem,i assume both oils are fully synthetic. -
Bmw 5 series petrol TURBO - Engine flush 25 Apr 2017 (Forum)
My independant garage has suggested an engine flush before the new oil change. My question is will this help clean the oil pipes which lubricate the turbo or is this merely transfering gunge back into the sump and oil pump but will obviously leave when the flush is drained. -

I bought this car last year and now doing my first oil/filter change. The oil filter system has been modified to accept a more modern filter - probably around 1970's and I think fitted to British Leyland cars of that era. The filter I have removed is a "Halfords HOF209". -

For oil 26 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Among other vehicles I have just aquired an LDV Convoy minibus (Y reg ) with a 2.5DI engine - I think this is the Ford Transit engine. Can anyone tell me tho oil requirements and change frequency for this engine ? I have contacted my LDV dealer who wants silly money for a handbook ( it has no handbook but a genuine 9500 miles ) I normally use Millers full synthetic diesel oil in my other diesel vehicles - will it be suitable ?
