  • Effects of electical items on your fuel economy 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I was watching an old repeat of Top Gear the other night where Clarkson drove an A8 Diesel from Lonfon-Edinburgh and Back. He was saying that he turned the heating off to save fuel econmy, likewise he was driving on side lights in the rain rather than dipped beam. Now I know that the air con compressor will increase fuel consumption but would you really notice extra fuel being used by using your heater?

  • Make your own bio-fuel 19 May 2006 (Forum)
In todays Daily Telegraph London Property Section was a short article that included how to turn cooking oil into bio-fuel for diesel engines. Sorry there is no link, so I have retyped it. Make your own bio-fuel All you need is a 45 gallon oil drum painted black and with a tap down the side, a large saucepan, a large sieve, some J-cloths and white spirit.
  • ? fuel starvation - Fiat Marea 2.4 TD 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
A couple of weeks ago I had the injectors of my diesel engine serviced with new nozzles, the result was increased power making the car feel like new. However last night is seemed to be limping and completely lack lustre. I checked under the bonnet for any obvious fuel leaks, but there were none.
  • SmartDiesel 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
No, not the car but a fuel card scheme which gives drivers cheaper diesel (69.3p today). Anyone using them or had experience of them http://www.smartdiesel.co.uk/
  • Post-Apocalyptic Car Usage 11 Jul 2025 (Forum)
How would people rebuild their lives in a world without functioning infrastructure? With no petrol or diesel at the pumps, we’d be forced to find alternatives,  perhaps by producing fuel from food sources, like biofuel. In such a scenario, only older vehicles with diesel engines might stand a chance, as they can run on straight vegetable oil with minimal modification.

  • More economical car wanted for 160 mile commute 19 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Have recently moved and commuting to work I do a 160 mile round trip journey which is costing a fortune in petrol - around £18/19 a day. Please can anyone advise if it would be worth selling this and buying a diesel and how much I could expect my fuel bill to reduce if I did? If it won't reduce by much then it's probably not worth the hassle or expense of changing the car. I only drive automatic so would need to find an automatic diesel.
