Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.9D Not hot air 19 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Do people think it is the heater matrix etc? I've booked it in for next tuesday. I don't know a great deal about how cars work, so would like to be clued up a bit beforehand (though I do trust the garage). Thanks for any help. -
American import 22 May 2008 (Forum)
c) duties - this will be a business vehicle - so VAT will hopefully be reclaimable. What about the duty - is it 10% for a pick up, like a car ? d) Will leaving it there for 6 months lead to any savings ? e) Vehicle ( Ford ) carries a warranty till 2008 - I am giving up on it , but is there a way of claiming in the event of failures / breakdowns ? -
Suzuki - New AA Warranty Catastrophe Cover: is it worth it? 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
cover. Costing £8.99, rather than the regular £25 a month, it is intended to provide major mechanical breakdown repairs, but carries a higher excess of £300. Costly problems flagged up by the AA include automatic transmission and cam belt failures. ?It?s the costly threat of a broken gearbox, failed engine or other catastrophic problems that most concerns people when they take out insurance,? -
Pug 405 replacement 3 Dec 2006 (Forum)
It has been incredibly reliable, and I have been loath to dispose of it as it is such an excellent tool for carrying shopping, 2 labradors, lots of stuff for wife's job. It has had 4 breakdowns though over the last 2 years (leaking valve in new tyre, failed ignition amplifier, failed starter, and recently the breather pipe to cam cover coming off and dropping ½ pint of oil over engine) and She Who Must Be Obeyed has announced she would like a replacement. -
What happened here then? 28 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Looking through the service history, there are 2 rather odd receipts regarding the past history of my car, more so its engine. The first one: DATE: 16/07/98 MILES: 56539 JOB INSTRUCTIONS: Remove cylinder head + skim and replace gaskets + timing belt Quite straight forwards that one. Blown head gasket, a common problem on these Polos (poor mating surfaces) and I? -
Renault Laguna 2 Dynamique estate 5 Dec 2004 (Forum)
However a quick google search looking for user opinions suggests a long list of potential problems, largely associated with complex electrics, a fragile clutch not up to diesel style torque and general dodgy quality control. I was actually rather taken aback at the negative comments, and the CBC breakdown certainly doesnt inspire confidence. Can these cars really be that bad or is it that everybody who has had a problem feels the need to burst into electronic print? Perhaps the later models are better - or not? -
Any - After market warranties 9 Jan 2022 (Forum)
I've had these warranties with two different companies since 2010, but only claimed once in all that time. I had a second occasion to claim last October when our car failed its MOT and needed work costing just under £300, but the garage owner told me he didn't want to deal with a warranty company because of the hassle it had caused him in the past. The warranty company wanted to see a cost breakdown for parts and labour before giving the go ahead for the work, something which the garage owner refused to provide until the work was done and the bill was paid. -
Citroen - 2004 2.0 hdi Snapped cambelt at 61,500miles 24 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I bought my Citroen C8 2.0 HDI LX on the 1st May this year - 5 months ago. Last week at 61,500 odd miles the cambelt snapped on the motorway. I had the car towed to a main dealer where they were 99% sure of cambelt failure but they would have to remove the engine to see for sure. 2 days and £750 later I was informed that the cambelt had indeed snapped and that, because they could not get the diesel injectors out, a new engine would have to be fitted at a cost of £5986.52 I contacted the customer complaints dept at the car retailer where I bought the vehicle and they informed me that my 3 month warranty had expired and unfortunately they would not be able to help me. -
any - Overall feelings about reliabilty 15 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I have read lots of posts here about reliability, which set me thinking about all the cars my wife and I have owned in almost 40 years of driving. Maybe I am tempting fate here, but in all that time I have only ever been stranded twice, and only once had to call a tow truck. Maybe we have been lucky but according to the doom merchants there are some real dogs in my list of cars: Triumph herald 948 triumph herald 13/60 triumph herald 12/50 swing axle failure - should have fixed it - it had been knocking for ages! -
3 years of a C220 21 Dec 2007 (Forum)
They work out at around £150 a go once a year and I get the oil done every six months for about £50. Breakdowns have not occurred but the local main dealers did come out once to replace a sensor (£35) Other parts, Battery New radio £120 (Halfords) Both sets of pads £120 a time fitted 4 tyres- £200 ish Kit for the cylinder head £8 and £50 fitting ( mine as an older car gets 50% discount on labour Got some small rust spots around the rear wheel arch and under the front doors..taken in and fixed free of charge Usual fluid top ups does well over 40 mpg on a run- apart from the odd bulb or two thats it -and MOTS of course. -
Toyota 177hp TurboD - 7000km 8 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Corolla Verso delivered early September 2006 The car recently refused to start, or rather started and stalled immediately a number of times. It was carted away to the dealer by a local breakdown driver who started it using the accelerator pedal, thus racing a stone-cold engine (I was not present or I would have told him to stop). -
Mondeo unless you know better. 18 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Hi everyone, Would appreciate advice here! Looking to buy and run a car for the next 3 years. £4,000 max budget, 20,000 miles a year, easy on motorways where it will spend 90% of its life is a priority as well as honest maintenance costs. It needs to be Mondeo or Vectra size and must have AC. -
Nissan Primera IV - "Dealer" warranty or "Insurance" warranty ? 29 Jul 2011 (Forum)
But now I'm confused whether the insurance warranties really work ? (a) Should I look for a car with independent DEALER warranty, closer or near ? If they are 50 miles away, will they cover me when I have a breakdown within their 3 months's warranty period? (b) Should I buy that Nissan and cut some price off by NOT opting for the WMS warranty and then take a warranty myself from Warranty direct , or Warranty wise or RAC or AA ? -
'99 Accord - oxygen sensor 6 Nov 2007 (Forum)
They haven't expressly told me they can't shift the sensor from the manifold, and I haven't queried the price breakdown. Incidentally, the car has done just 17,500 miles from new and has been serviced in accordance with Honda's schedule, so I'm surprised the thing has gone kaput so early. I bought the car 2 months ago from the main agent (I've done 250 miles since then). -
Toyota Yaris Queries 5 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hi All, I am considering replacing my car shortly and one of the cars i was considering was a Toyota Yaris. As i do 18-24 k a year i was considering the possibility of a 2nd hand diesel. However i have a number of queries with a diesel- never had one before..... -
Some help with a tight situation 17 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Now that a fourth young child will unexpectedly be living with them fairly soon, they've asked me for suggestions for a six- or seven-seater car they can afford. Due their circumstances (mainly centring around health) the household is on a low income, so what they can afford is very little - less than £1500, probably. My brother-in-law said he'd heard of seven-seat Peugeot 405 estates, but I shudder to think of the potential reliability problems with that car - they have enough on their plate without having to constantly worry about breakdowns, repairs, etc. -
Which Fiesta? 24 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I am likely to buy at auction (Blackbushe, although I have also bought in Nottingham and Preston in the past) Having been through the car-by-car breakdown I had decided on a Punto (new shape) but they look "too mean" for her liking. Neither does she like the Yaris. She would really like another Fiesta (in green of course). I personally have some regard for Fords as they seem reasonably reliable and there are a million and one places and people who can service/maintain them, usually at reasonable rates. -
Audi A3 - Driver with insurance in uninsured car in accident 7 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I have comprehensive converage on another vehicle, and certificate stated I will be covered as third party when driving another car, with condition that the car should insured without my name on the policy. I had borrowed a car from friend to tie me over a couple of weeks while searching for a car for myself. The car has valid tax disc and even breakdown cover. -
KIA Sportage - RAC Clearing Fault Code to get you back on Road 2 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Amazing response from dealer and after two hours of complaining and going round in circles im at a dead end. I now have to wait until my car breaks down (hopefully not with the wife and young kids in it) and send the car on the back of a truck into dealership. Anyone been caught out by this? Can i force AC to look at my car somehow? -
Peugeot 3008 1.6THP - Broken down again, 4 times in 17 months, what now? 24 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Waiting for Puegeot Assist breakdown to come out to me. I have had the car 17months, it has broken down 4 times, it is barely run it (22000 miles) and has never been reliable. Apart from selling it quickly after this next repair, any suggestions?
