  I tested a 2003 model today, it had a few things wrong with it, just wondered if they were easy to fix and if it was worth buying:   1) Central locking doesnt work on front passenger door - has to be opened from inside. 2) Air-con needs charged 3) No service history - 118,000 miles - cam belt? 4) Odometer reads 95,000 miles as dash was changed because fuel guage didnt work   Apart from that it ran nicely and was good to drive.

  Whilst coming to terms with all the gadgets and creature comforts which make driving easier I am thinking what you actually need on a car, what can you do without? Do you need a rev counter or air con, heated seats and radios, turbos, multi changers cruise control etc etc. any market for a car with no frills? just the bits to make it go and stop and lights to show you the way at night. when its hot wind down windows and when its cold you just wear extra clothes.

  I would like to try and forsee what spec. will be in demand in a couple of years time. So, what colour car should I buy now, air con or climate, alloys or steel, sun roof any use, hatchback or saloon, and so on. Remember that I am interested in 2 years time when I come to sell. Any one out there with a crystal ball 'cos I am fed up with buying the wrong colour and or wrong spec!!

  is there anyone who can help, i have a ford mondeo 2.0 tddi y reg 2001i use this as a taxi hence mileage being 205,460, my problem is when i use the aircon after about 20 miles the car starts to jerk then i lose power and the engine cuts out, this happened today on the outside lane on the motorway, after switching off and leaving the car for about 40 mins it starts first time, this problem does not happen if i dont use the air con , many thanks claire

  Hi hope someone can help I've got a 1.6 HDi SE 407 with the standard stereo in, This morning i turned the radio off by pressing the button, now it won't turn back on, I've still got the car phone through the speakers and it will take and eject CD's the display still works listing the air con and Date, but it just won't turn on. I'm a real novice when it comes like this but wondered if anyone had had this , i reckon the dealer will just fit new stereo, loads of money in other words Any help appreciated Jon

  I am curently looking at buying a second hand merc sprinter and have found one for 7000 plus vat. considering the mieladge and the condition and extras eg air con elw etc the price seems reasnable but how much do you think I can get away with hagiling off the price. What sort of mark up would the seller add on for negotiating? Previously, although all my motor purcases have been sound I have always felt that I could bought have got a bit less.

  hi all i have two fans on my rad ,front and rear,(the fan at the back,) can someone explain why .is one of them for the air con. the one at the front keeps stopping so moved it with my fingers and it was seized but the started to spin. and it is blowing a 30 amp fuse in the little fuse holder next to the right hand side of the rad ,there are two 30 amp fuses and its the one at the back of the box that keeps blowing...is the fan broke and causing the fuse to blow or could it be something else. is it easy to fit a new fan . cheers dave

  I have a 2002 Astra, it has a 1.6 single ohc engine with air con. The Haynes manual says that the torque setting for this car (alloy sump) should be 33lbf. The manual then specifically states that the dohc 1.6 engine with a torx type(rubber ring)plug should be 10 lbf.

  Could soon be on the look out for a replacement for a Mk3 Golf 1.8 GL. Requirements include space for mad labrador (hence estate), diesel for lots of miles, air con/abs/twin airbags, and similar (ish) dimensions to the Golf to keep SWMBO happy. Considering a Focus, but slightly put off by the no doubt older diesel engine I'd get for my £5000, as well as the many 'what to look out fors' as listed in HJ's car-by-car breakdown.

  ex company car bought at 110K now on 125K i've just had the cambelt done, and a full new exhaust, and a few months ago new discs and pads. 1.9tdlx with air con, abs, electric heated wing mirrors etc..... 11 months tax and mot and totally spotless inside, you could mistake it for a brand new car. what price am i looking at for a private sale(if anyone will buy it cos there is so many)?

  Hello all I purchased a 996C2 from Stratstone in Aylesbury on the 26th November, after a 300 mile shakedown run on the 29th November I reported 3 problems back to the Dealer: Air Con Not Working Steering Wheel Wobble at 65 plus Appalling Headlights (Porsche Li Tronics) After finally getting the car back to the dealer the Air Con has been fixed but I am told that no problem could be found with the 'wobble' or the lights, in fact i have been told 3 times that the car passed its MOT which I agree with but, they do not test for brightness.

  Turbo is working, still quite responsive, but I'm just nursing it along over the last few days. Exhaust is fine, replaced air filter and cleaned air flow meter but had no effect. I'm worried about gearbox/transmission. Another mechanic with 15yrs experience in the main dealers has had it today. He got into the ECU but no faults came up.

  Not a particular problem, apart from the fact that the climate control system responds to that, so, unless temperature set to "Hi" system blowing cold air, air con not functioning, car misting up.  Doesn't really inspire confidence, and I do wish people would take a little more pride in their work

  I own a 1999 Honda Accord 2.0 LS Vtec 4 door Automatic. On starting from cold in the morning with the air conditioning or heated rear window on the drive belts squeal. It happens for the first 10 minutes from cold It only happens at tickover or when i pull away at junctions It is particularly bad on damp mornings I have replaced the following items in an attempt to cure this: Honda drive belts (a/c and Pas) Air con compressor Alternator Also it has recently had both timing and balancer belt and a Honda battery.

  Hi All I need to source a heater blower motor for a 2001 Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia. The car has air con; does  that make a difference to the type of blower fitted? I seriously doubt it, but something that someone else said has put a doubt in my mind. Haynes makes no mention of two types of blower for the model.

  Also the fan has just started coming on after 15 or so minutes but the temp guage is in the middle and the air con is switched off. Hope somebody can help. Thanks very much

  I have checked the 3 relays and all the wiring is intact and doesn't look like it's been touched. I have read on the internet that it could be the bitron sensor for the air con. Where is this located? How can i test it? How much is a new one? Anyone got any other suggestions? Cheers Jon

  Firstly, where is it located and secondly, some advice on how to change this would be a great help - and earn some brownie points over Xmas! Just for info the car does not have air con but understand this probably is irrelvant and am pretty good with car maintenance Thanks in advance for the help

  A warning light which looks like a radiator with a fan on it has come on. The air con does not work. The engine cooling fan does not cut in when I let the engine idle until the temp gauge goes into the red. My local Vauxhall garage ran a diagnostic test, they said the aircon sensor or switch needed replacing.
