  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 18-01-2020 20 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Parker’s Guide- I looked at the XC40 but was put off by reports of it only doing the high 20’s mpg and as we travel to Southern Europe each year wanted something more economic so ended up buying a NX.. It has it’s faults (road noise and not the most powerful) but fully loaded it returned around 44mpg and that included mountainous regions..As said its not the most powerful so not a ‘driver’s car’ but it’s very comfortable and a relaxing drive..

  • Service history - does it really matter? 6 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Had a good vibe from the dealer and everything added up condition wise and the way the engine ran and it sailed through the equivalent of the MOT here. A "right" amount of KM for the age and from Holland originally so had never seen a hill!  It`s troubles really began after I got it!!! 2 and a bit years later still going strong. Did the run back to the UK from Hungary with nary a hitch. Maybe I was just lucky.......
  • Range Rover, Discovery,Defender - Land Rover Mania 30 Jun 2018 (Forum)
For the image conscious it must make sense but for Main Dealers not to offer any discount on a £90 k car and to impose waiting lists this situation must be unique. Similarly with the Discovery Tv6 s reputation for blowing engines and other reliabilty nightmares the workshops in this part of the midlands are full of broken down LRs leading to long waits to get them fixed. Can someone explain this madness ?
  • Manage with one car 27 Jun 2018 (Forum)
and am just weighing up if running our second more economical car is worth hanging on to.....Our people/stuff shifter averages 30mpg...our little run around is averaging 40 mpg..... we could of course try and find a more economical car to replace the two but then when you factor in costs is it really worth spending thousands to save few hundred £’s a year.......

  • less driving - The bus pass 16 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Have found, like others here that traffic conditions and parking problems combined with bus lanes and strict parking enforcement has driven me (geddit) onto the local buses for lots of things, so as the bus pass is free i am saving quite a bit and it just happens to be 5 mins to one supermarket and about 15 to the other. even if swmbo comes it is still cheaper than parking in the centre. Colchester isn,t as bad as tooting but it,s less stress to get the bus. I NEVER thought i would say that.

  • Corsa D 1.2i (85) petrol manual - Engine noise 21 Apr 2013 (Forum)
My December 2010 Corsa D 1.2i (85) petrol manual has done 8000 miles and engine makes a faint ticking noise,  barely discernible above tyre noise when driving but quite noticeable when idling at rest. Think I've heard similar noise on other similar 1.2's  in car parks etc.  (Similar engine,  79 bhp,  in my previous 2005 Corsa  C,  ran beautifully quietly).  Is this anything to worry about?
