"Chipping" and trip computers 17 May 2004 (Forum)
I have fitted a box from East Coast Racing to my C5, now the trip computer seems optimistic compared to the fuel needle which is approaching 1/4 tank. The last years driving has shown the guage to be deadly accurate. -
Astra leaking powersteering fluid 15 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My 1995 1.7D Astravan has started leaking powersteering fluid from the overflow hole on top of the reservoir. There are no leaks on the rack or pipes. The drive belt to the PAS-pump is a bit loose, squeaking on tight locks or low revs. Will tightening/replacing the belt solve the problem, or is there something more serious wrong? Thanks in advance. Accord 1999 1.8 auto 2 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Thinking of buying one.... but would like opinions on usefullness of the semi auto option and overall drive as an automatic. Never been a fan of auto's but now I'm getting on a bit and stuck in city traffic 50% of the time I think it may be time to cross over. Thanks in advance Steve -
Watch out for Kia 26 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Knowing, and having worked in Korea and with Koreans I have little doubt these guys will do what they say. Interesting they've appointed a gaijin to head up their export drive and PR: the Koreans' greatest problem is English, or lack of it. I know, I have a nephew there right now earning ££££/hr teaching it. http://tinyurl.com/sduv -
VW Polo Steering Problem 21 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I bought a VW Polo, 1.4cl auto R reg 1998, this year but not 100% happy with it. I find when I\'m driving over potholes etc that the steering wheel very quickly pulls to the left & I have to quickly have to grab hold of it. Does anyone out there have any ideas what could be causing this? -
Diesel chipping - vw passat tdi 6 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Have test driven the Passat TDI 130hp and would like to achieve a similar result by chipping my 1999 TDI 110hp Passat (one red letter). Could anybody comment on the results and subsequent reliability of the engine and drive train? This is not for speed but to permit easier towing of a camping trailer in the mountains. Thanks for your help -
Diesel clean 20 Aug 2003 (Forum)
HJ's recent column mentioned running diesels at high revs to clean out various elements. Any advice on the method to adopt? Sit in the drive in neutral with throttle down and sort out the nieghbour's washing? Or as one thread had it, go through the gears up to the red line and re-surface the road behind you? Or is there a more genteel way of going about it? -
Guess the penalty 16 Aug 2003 (Forum)
A piece in the local newspaper I thought interesting. 20 year old lad, gets stopped for doing 93mph in a 60mph limit after trying to outrun a marked police car. He admits that not only does he have no insurance, he does not even have a driving licence. What do you think he got when it ended up in court? -

Mercedes 124 25 Jun 2003 (Forum)
It happened once before, and was caused by using a 10 watt not the correct 5 watt rear bulb. When replaced, all was fine. It is driving me crazy. Any ideas? -
The Stig 8 Jun 2003 (Forum)
In today's Telegraph HJ's fellow columnist Anne Robinson writes about her forthcoming appearance on TG. Before driving her lap in the reasonably priced car, AR is given instructions by The Stig. She describes him as 'a very famous racing driver','quite short' and 'quite London' Surely this description can only refer to Johnny Herbert? -
Illegal Drivers 26 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Apparently the general feeling of these people is that the resulting fines, if/when caught, are far less severe than the costs of complying with the rules. Crazy eh ? To think that 1 in every 20 drivers are deliberately driving illegally is quite frightening. -

The vehicle is a Mk3 Golf 1.9D When I backed off my drive today the PAS behaved as if I had not yet started the engine ie even worse than if there was no PAS at all! After 50yds it settled down and behaved normally and has continued to do so at subsequent start-ups. -
The new Rolls Royce 12 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Has anybody else seen the new R/R on test drives down a27 between chichester and arundel. Myself i think they look more like a tank, a landrover seems to have better lines on it, and also more attractive. I think bmw are trying to put R/R down, so they can sell more 3,5,&7 series -

Registration plates 28 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Driving up the M6 yesterday, a BMW 3 series passed me. It had a "Q" plate, but what puzzled me was that the rear plate itself, and the typeface, must have been ¼ the normal size. It was tiny hardly legible.
