Polo 1.2S Driving Impressions 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I was more impressed by the hill climbing ability of this version than the 1.4FSI I had last year.Gear change and steering very positive. Only gripe is a too high (non-adjustable) drivers seat. Looking forward to the run back across the Cat and Fiddle (if the temperature gets a above freezing that is). -- I wasna fu but just had plenty. -

Peugeot 306 1.4 electrics gone crazy! 8 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Last night the radio kept on cutting out, then the headlights flickered, instruments went from 0 to full scale but the engine kept on running fine. Then it cut out and eventually restarted. This morning it would not start. Now it will. I am going to see it tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should start looking. My first thought was the dash earth, does this make sense and where is it? -
HELP! Peugeot 306 or Vauxhall astra??? 4 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Whilst the 306 is lovely to drive, we do a couple long journeys a year in it, and we could use more space. I've no doubt that the 306 could go on running indefinately, it's a 1999 reg and only on 44k at the moment. the astra is at 33k. What do you think i should do? Oh and the astra is priced at £4995. unsure what i'd get for the 306 for part ex. -
VW Passat Question 23 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I have recently purchased an 02 model Passat. All is running well, except for whenever I go over a bump in the road the front-end of the car seems to pull over to the left. i've driven it a few times and as best as I can figure the front wheels go over the bump okay, but when the rear wheels go over, the car moves left. -
What £6K commuter/family car? 29 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Priorities are: New as possible for the money (i.e don't care about badge.) Comfortable, reliable, Big Boot, economical, cheap to run and insure (if this is possible!) The two leading candidates in my mind at the moment are the ubiquitous Mondeo TDCi, and the Primera 2.2DCi. If anyone has experience of both these cars and can contrast, or knows of an alternative then please fire away. -
VW Passat TDi high revs on start-up 4 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Problem is extremely fast revving for two/three seconds (basically as if I'd hit the accelerator a few times) then settles down and runs smoothly as usual. The revving up and down is much faster than could be done by blipping the throttle to the floor a couple of times. Given next service in 2K miles (about 5 weeks or so), is this worth worrying about or should I get it to a VW specialist ASAP? -
TVR Experience 28 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Question is..what would keep up with it in that price range - scoobys, evos etc?? quite interested as we were at a set of lights and an Evo IV pulled up, didnt bother giving it a run for its money (nothing to do with Dad puttin his foot down with me!!) but assume I would have beat even the fastest of them - would I be right?? -
Insurance - Sort of Lexus related 25 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Right-I've started a thread because I feel the topic deserves it. I've run a few quotes through for this Lexus for me and not one insurer has been able to provide an online quote. I'm going to ring a few tomorrow and see but is this because they won't quote me at all or because it's going to be pricey? -
mondeo v6 starting problems 18 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Strange one this, It seems the electrical system is failing! Once in a while.... 1, the car fires up then dies, after a few goes it runs ok 2, At speed the car lurches as if its cutting out after slowing down its ok. Now... The remote door key has packed up, and would not switch off the alarm/immob light, The car is refusing to start at first few tries, with the alarm/immob light staying on even using the red master key After eventually starting the radio display is blank??? -
good underseal..... 5 Oct 2005 (Forum)
ive been trying to keep on top of the rust issues on my mk2 golf over the years ive tried pretty much all the high street brands, i thught id come on and mention one product that has been good to me hammerite underseal with waxoil, its a fairly thick black goop thats applied with a brush, one extra little trick ive found is that say if you have a crusty seam where you cant treat between 2 panels..brush on a good coat, then warm it with a heat gun, the underseal turns almost oil like and runs into seams/gaps then sets up again once cool any other rust tips ? -
Golf TDi 1.9 Ignition Failure 10 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Hi - can anyone offer any informed insights into why an S reg Golf TDI 1.9 would have ignition problems? It has run fine for the last few days (we only bought it a week ago from a policeman!) though on Sunday it took a couple of attempts to get the engine going. However, yesterday it started fine and went on an 80 mile round trip, but refused to restart an hour later. -
Ultrasonic Petrol Injector cleaning 8 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My car has done almost 140k miles now and I've recently cleaned out the turbo/intercooler/intake system which has made it run a lot better. Would cleaning the injectors be the icing on the cake or a waste of time and money (£70 for a set of four)? Also any way to tell if they need cleaning (they are easy enough to remove for inspection)? -
New Car - Suggestions? 23 Aug 2005 (Forum)
We are looking to downsize from a full size MPV as we can no longer justify the running costs of the car and don't need quite so much space. We are looking for a smaller car, something economical (in excess of 40mpg) such as a small petrol or diesel. The car should seat 5 comfortably, be of decent quality (it needs to last) and have a boot big enough to fit a small inflatable boat when folded up (about 1.0m by 0.5m). -
Suzuki Ignis Sport - Best Oil? 11 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I would be prepared to pay a small premium for more responsiveness/ economy. I think the oil coming out of it is the "running-in" oil that comes from the factory... swarf and all. Cheers. -
Megane - strange smell 5 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Had a good look around and couldn't find anything rotten lying around. I wonder if it could be something to do with the aircon but I gave it a good run on hot air to dry it all out and it's no better. Car was fine when I put it in the garage. I've not had this problem on previous Renaults. Does anyone know what might be causing it? Could it be mould in the aircon? -
Micra 1.3l L reg 1993 - Cutting out 1 Jul 2005 (Forum)

5 Doors, under 5 yrs old, less than 5k 22 Jun 2005 (Forum)
She is looking for a 5 door hatch with plenty of room for her and our daughter. It needs to be reliable and reasonably cheap to run - insure, service, fill up, etc. Style is not a major factor (she says). £5,000 is the budget. 2001 and newer would be great. She likes the Picasso's ride height but I reckon she could do with a bigger boot (will have to deal with baby no.2 eventually). -
Key Rings 17 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Following on from the recent "magic tree" thread and the "car mats" thread from a while ago lets see how this one runs. I want a new key ring, but I'm also being very fussy. I used to have a very nice Ford Puma key ring but it has broken and now I'm left with just the ring part holding my keys together. To replace this key ring I want a motoring related, but not a car makers name key ring, now it has to be nice (which I understand is in the eye of the beholder). -
Smokin 405 6 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The problem is upon starting it smokes like hell until the engine is warmed up. I have tried leaving the glow plugs on a bit longer this did not help at all. The engine also runs very lumpy. There is a valve on the side of the intercooler that is blowing air out and the haynes manual shows two pipes on it. However on mine there is only one the bottom one. It clearly looks as though a pipe has come off however i cannot find one or the place this pipe connects to after the intercooler valve.
