Turbo Question Please. 22 Mar 2002 (Forum)
On reading my car manual, it says that after a period of high speed driving or climbing up a steep incline, you need to sit at idle for a maximum of two minutes before switching off the engine. I know this has something to do with the turbo, but why do we need to do that? -

Motoring on Playstation 28 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I'm getting (albeit belatedly) a Playstation for the kids, and was wondering which car racing games the backroomers would suggest. Of course I'll have to fully test drive anything before they're allowed out on the road. :o) Thanks, Stu. -
Audi S3 & TT wheels falling off 29 Sep 2001 (Forum)
There have been 6 S3's and TT's affected so far. If you have one of these, phone your dealer and get them to collect it, don't drive it. Lower radius arm snaps and the wheel folds in. Can happen at any speed. That's the S3 off my list then...... -
noisy xm 16 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I had a noise coming from the front of my xm and thought it was the wheel bearings on the way out ,so of I trotted to my local xm man who took the car for a test drive then into the workshop. He returned with a clum look and I thought expensive.Cost zero the fault was the large split pins were rattlingon the bearing caps. Its a good job he is honest. -

I hope to be able to tow with our recently acquired Multipla - which incidentally is really fun to drive and as practical and commanding as a 4x4 (and really interesting to be seen in!) Thanks; Lawrence. -

Mazda 3 - £12-15k reliable and comfortable daily 11 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Hi, currently looking for an upgrade to my current car, a 2009 Ibiza. Will be doing 30 minute motorway commutes and usual town driving a few times a week as well. My priorities are comfort and reliability, and budgeting £12-15k. Would want an automatic considering a lot of time is spent in rush hour traffic. Considerations Ive made so far Mazda 3 (2019+): seems to get very frequently suggested on other sites; I really like its looks as well as interior with physical controls. -
How many miles will a Routemaster bus have done? 23 Aug 2024 (Forum)
This is one of the 40mph models - apparently a few examples built for the Gatwick run had a much higher final drive ratio and could exceed 60! - although I levelled out at around 34mph due to the incredible noise from the engine some 12" from my left elbow. They don't have odometers, so.. how many miles is a RM likely to have covered since it was built? -
Volkswagen Sharan - Buying used car - sufficient power? 16 Aug 2024 (Forum)
It's a big and heavy car (google says 1750 kg) and I'm aware that there is a move away from diesel...which leaves us with the 1.4L petrol engine. Driving wise, we live in a city but cycle as much as we can (taking the kids to school, getting to work), but do make the occasional city trip. Otherwise, we drive further afield (1.5 hours or so) every couple of weekends and have intentions to do European road trips for holidays. -
Automatic Family Car 21 Apr 2024 (Forum)
We also semi-regularly drive to places in the UK and France, and so something that can handle carting around child paraphernalia and luggage would be ideal. Realistically I don't want to spend more than 15k, especially with the baby guaranteed to up costs. -
Honda Civic - Honda Civic vs Audi A4 15 Sep 2023 (Forum)
Reliability obviously is a key factor, as well as economy. Comfort is great, but lower priority, good driving experience, well... I'm not sure if it'll get any worse than my brilliant fiesta mk7. With me driving mainly around town, and otherwise short trips; with annual mileage around 5-7k, I was looking for a car and been strongly recommended a petrol engine. -
Daihatsu Charade (2003 - 2006) - 03 1.0 Cutting out randomly 21 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Our 2003 Charade has cut out three times in the last week while driving. Unfortunately I have not experienced this first hand - all three times it's happened when my OH was driving. The first two times it happened were at low speed - once going round a roundabout and once in a housing estate.
