  • From The telegraph - Police admit using mobile speed cameras are 'like 26 Feb 2014 (Forum)
He said he also wants speeding motorists to be offered safer driving courses as an alternative to fines and points on their licenses, arguing the emphasis should be on “education as well as enforcement”. But he said the police have diminishing influence in local camera safety partnerships, which oversee speed camera use but also include council and health representatives.
  • Jaguar XF 2.2D - Is it safe?? 12 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Parked the car for the night and following day. Went to the car on Monday and it drove fine for 3 hours then went again. But i made it home back to the North East. Rang Jaguar breakdown again and the sent a technician out, not AA.
  • 2 perplexing problems 1996 Range Rover 20 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I looked in the under-bonnet fuse box and everything was fine, dry and clean. I swapped around the starter relay for a couple of others. I checked that the gearbox was in Park and also tried it in Neutral. Neither do I think it is the immobiliser (which has identical symptoms) because when the passive immobilization kicks in the message centre tells you that the Engine is Disabled.
  • Ford Maverick - Advice needed re a refund 28 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I'm new on here, and need some advice. My Mini Cooper is about to enter the great car park in the sky, and I've been looking for a cheap second-hand car. Nine days ago I saw a Ford Maverick, took it for a test-drive, it seemed fine, except for a big crack across the windscreen. I was a bit surprised that it was supposed to have a 12 month MOT on it, as couldn't see how it could have passed with that; but was assured by the salesman that it was about to be put in for an MOT, and would be available once that was sorted by the end of the week.
  • Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe CDI250 62Reg - Pulling Left 19 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Admittedly I have never owned or driven a Mercedes before (except for commercials - and they were fine!) but surely an established ‘prestigious’ brand would not accept this as normal? I have had a google around and can’t even find that much chatter about it – surely if it was that common a problem, more people would be discussing it?
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.8 Acceleration reduced warning then car won't 13 Dec 2013 (Forum)
The car seemed fine during the week when it was cold outside, even freezing, it was only when the car had sat in the damp and rain over Wednesday/ Thursday night that it had a problem. It seems to happen when I am turning hard right, although that could just be a coincidence, and the engine is cold and it has been damp over night.
  • Cheap Car - Suspicious 29 May 2009 (Forum)
Hi, Today I noticed a car advertised for sale parked in my village. I'll spare you the details, suffice to say its 55' Plate, 80k miles and the owner budged £200 off the sale price to £4k when its really worth £6000ish. Just to make it clear, no money has been exchanged and I have agreed to pick it up from her house tomorrow.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.8 petrol (?) Stalling engine & ign. light. 17 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I know that the radiator has been changed, oil, brakes and discs and lots of other bits too. The car after i have driven about 20miles then park and then get back in just after i have started driving again ( i basically drive from work to parents house, pick up son then drive home again) i normally pull into the same road (my parents road) and reverse out.
  • What to buy 19 Dec 2007 (Forum)
(I normally only do 60 as I'm never in a hurry and like to save the fuel costs) I need to be able to put my bike in the back. (I cycle the last bit to avoid Bristol parking) It fits in the 306 with the rear seats down and the front wheel still in place. I could remove the front wheel if necessary, as I'll have to do if I go for a Fabia (vRS high on my list) Reliability is important, though with so much motorway driving I never wear anything out.
  • Pug 406 V6 Wierd Oil Pressure Problem 9 May 2005 (Forum)
I subsequently tried unscrewing the oil filter and turning the engine over - oil did eventually start pouring out and on retightening the filter I got oil pressure back. I then ran the car about fine, parked it up, tried it again 4 hours later - no oil pressure! This problem only ever occurs when the car has been left for a while - I have never lost oil pressure when driving. There is no oil leakage from anywhere.
  • Carjacking Notes 4 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Don't hesitate to run back to where you came from to get help. LOOK AROUND one last time just before exiting your car. When you pull into a parking area look around for anyone "hanging" around, or someone who seems to "pace" their walk to arrive at your parking place as you are exiting your car. If you see someone like this move to another parking area or leave the area.
  • Motoring myths 13 Oct 2005 (Forum)
By chance, they had locked their guns onto an over-flying military aircraft and launched one of its missiles. For a number of scientific and operational reasons, this is impossible. 4. Avoid paying your fine Have you heard the one about the double-bluff way to avoid points on your license? If you send a cheque for more than the amount of the fine, the issuing authority has to refund the difference. If you don't cash the cheque they send back, they can't add the points to your license because the full transaction isn't complete.
  • Possible Fraudulent MOT and dishonest dealer 8 Mar 2023 (Forum)
The parking sensor had not been fixed and I was told it hasn't arrived yet. We agreed that I will contact them next week for the sensor, they offered to take the car provide a replacement car or send one to my location, as I live an hour away from the dealership, in a different city.
  • BMW 318i 2006 - Fuel Leak on Used Car - What Do I Do? 9 Sep 2019 (Forum)
As it was relatively small, I thought little of it.  I've now found that the car is leaving 2 stains in my parking space - 1 at the front which is probably the oil leak & another at the rear in front of the rear wheel near the fuel flap. Have noticed an occasional fuel smell from the rear, but it wasn't always apparent.
  • Once Upon a Time...a sad tale 15 Sep 2006 (Forum)
It eluded capture but left trails all over the roof lining and windows. But, I told myself, this was fine. People are different. Some care about these things, some don't. But one day, not so long ago the contract expired on the Blue Car Thing. It had seemed a good idea at the time, Contract Hire - get a new car, easy monthly payments.
  • Am I jinxed or a bad driver? (long post) 25 May 2006 (Forum)
I can't go into my left lane because there is a coach parked there, but while moving into my right lane this guy decides to overtake me because 25 mph or so is obviously not fast enough for him. We end up inches from each other with both of us hitting the brakes.
  • Lexus RX300 2006 62k mileage £4500 - Used vehicle not fit for purpose, dealer arguing 14 Jan 2022 (Forum)
I recently bought a Lexus RX300 2006 with 62k mileage for £4500 MOT was 10th Feb 2020, bought it on 10th May 2020. Test drive fine and everything seemed to run ok. 10 days later took for a full service and the garage told me the bad news about it having massive corrosion underneath with corroded pipes, major oil leak, parking brake broken, tyre down to the rim.
  • 2003 VW Passat 1.9 litre TDI, 140,000 miles. - My car is blowing up batteries! =/ 12 Apr 2020 (Forum)
I was driving down the road and my car just died, no warning, no nothing every thing just turned off. Luckily I was able to pull over to a parking space. I checked the battery which had zero voltage so I thought the battery had an internal short. To verify I plugged in a small cheap car just starter which instantly exploded! I thought that this was just because it was a cheapo jump starter which couldn't handle being plugged into a shorted battery.
  • MG ZS 2017 - Condensed update at 8 Months 25 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Drives better than reviews, and comfortable seats with good support. Steering absolutely fine. Fuel economy better than the Venga, so pleased so far. Best so far 250 mile return trip 46.1 averaging about 40.1 overall. Update 12/01/2019 Happy with car, one glitch resolved quickly under warranty.
  • Opinions required 23 May 2016 (Forum)
So, firstly does PCP make any sense in my situation (have worked out the sums and that is fine, including the extra for additional mileage) as it would mean I could keep switching the car (as they seem to keep getting problems when they hit higher mileage) Secondly, what car would you recommend to me?
