Vauxhall Astra - breeze - Car stalls without any warning when driving along 21 Oct 2011 (Forum)
When the car stalls the emission icon warning displays, but leaves no live reference number on the ECU memory. The car restarts after about two minutes. This has happened about six times so far -

Range Rover Classic 4.2LSE 18 Aug 2004 (Forum)
If gas, can I get away with fitting an exhaust pipe minus the cats? I intend to fit tubular headers with lambda fittings. As the probes are upstream of the cats the ECU will not know whether they are fitted or not. -
Opel or Vauxhall 15 Dec 2003 (Forum)
What are the differnces between the Opel and Vauxhall Corsa? Is it just the badges or are there differences to the engines, ECUs etc? I am worried that if we break down in France, will the Opel dealer be able to deal with a Vauxhall? Will their diagnostics be able to read Vauxhall codes etc? -
Memory Savers 29 Oct 2003 (Forum)
To do this I need to remove the alternator, and of course disconnect the battery. I have heard that memory saving devices are available to save the cars ECU settings. Are they really necessary? and if so what devices are available to the DIY\'er? Your advice please. Regards Andrew -

Omega Power Steering 8 Oct 2001 (Forum)
The Haynes manual for the Omega says that there is a sensor to detect when additional load is being placed on the engine by the power steering pump - i.e. on full lock. This is only for V6 cars fitted with the Motronic 2.8.3 ECU and gives a few extra rpm to the tickover to prevent stalling. My question is - where is this sensor located? The manual makes no reference to its location. -
51 Toyota Avensis 2.0 VVT-I Auto - Running rich/low idle 23 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Mpg has improved after the Cataclean. I just can't work out why there's this low tick over until the engine is hot. It seems that the ecu is confused after it goes closed loop. It must be a sensor of some kind but I can't figure out which one it could be. I'm worried about failing the MOT and ruining the Catalysts. Any ideas please? Cheers -
Mazda 3 - Engine hesitation 6 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I can "override" the factory set idle speed to mimic the cold running speed, but this of course totally upsets the ECU and so isn't a way forward. I understand that the throttle and clutch are linked by microswitches and was wondering if there was a fault with either/both of these switches, or maybe something in the ECU itself. -
Fiat stilo - Fiat stilo immobiliser 18 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I can't believe that it has happened again. The garage gave me no paperwork last year regarding putting in a new ecu unit. Where do I stand with regard to the work they done? Surely the car which I have only had for just over a year was not fit for purpose when they sold it to me? -
Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - 2.0 TDCi -- Oil Service message. 22 May 2013 (Forum)
Rang the supplying Ford main dealer (very helpful on this matter) and they told me it's a known problem. The fix is an oil & filter change and an ECU update, they say. The service manager says it's an oversensitive sensor relating to the DPF, which reports the oil has become contaminated and is putting the DPF at risk. The ECU update is supposed to reset the parameters for the sensor. -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Alternator only lasting 3 months! 18 Jan 2010 (Forum)
We have looked at earthing problems and discounted battery (new one) and are now looking at the "smart charge" system and ECU fault, even though ECU reader has indicated no faults. The things die in the same way, battery light comes on, battery puts out 12ish vaults under load and refuses to increase to any more than 12.4 vaults. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 1.9HDi will not start 20 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I took it to a peugeot dealer the diagnostics could not be accessed, they told me a new wiring loom + ecu MIGHT be required (cost £2400.00) When the engine cut out there was no engine mil light on the dash, yet the engine would turn over but would not start. Battery went flat, recharged, now engine mil light on dash, but still will not start. -
Daewoo Matiz (1998 - 2004) - 00 796 Ignition failure while driving 8 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The last two were by the local Chevrolet dealer after a computer check. Now the local Chevrolet dealer says the computer wants me to replace the immobiliser ECU, cost £330. It seems likely that the parts they replaced are in working order (£95 to replace). My question is, am I being ripped off? What if replacing the ECU does not solve the problem? If a friend asked me to look at their computer because the screen wasn't working, I would not simply replace the monitor, signal lead and graphics card. -
Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 01 1.2 juddering & weird ticking noise 27 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi there, just recently bought a 2001 clio 1.2 16V, got it cheapish as it had immobiliser fault, anyway thought i was clever and managed to get a company to send me a ECU which has been demobilised to solve the problem, anyway starts alright now, but lots of weird things have been going on, i wonder whether they are connected to the new ECU or whether they were there already? -
FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - 97 1.1 Running problems. 25 Nov 2008 (Forum)
All cleared off except for one "Battery Voltage" (No codes only a narrative) Battery voltage is not bad at 14.02 but battery voltage on live data varies between 8 and 15 volts. I've not physically measured the voltage at the ecu pin yet. The multi function relay has been replaced. My gut feeling is an ECU problem but am I right in thinking the immobiliser is integral with these? Its a Weber -Marelli 16F.EB. Incidentally he purchased the car with these problems
