  • Fake Plates 25 May 2001 (Forum)
So given that the penalty for using a fake plate is so low surely the 'criminal' element will use fake plates and so not get caught by speed cameras... And if stopped by the police he gets a relatively tiny fine.... And, given that any number plate can be created for a few quid, what's to stop you renting a car and putting fake plates copied from an identical car on it - then driving past an active speed camera 4 or 5 times, thus losing some poor chap his licence?
  • Speed Traps 4 Apr 2001 (Forum)
In this splendid forum, and in the HJ newspaper columns, the subject of the purpose of speed traps, radar guns, cameras ete, is often discussed. My view is that speed is only one of the many factors in road traffic accidents and the official figures & reports bear this out. However, if anyone is in any doubt that speed traps are installed for safety reasons only, and not a means of generating income, should consider the well documented cases of those citizens giving other motorists a warning that a speed trap/hand held gun etc is present on a particular road.

  • Family car with small turning circle? 7 Jan 2022 (Forum)
I’m looking for a family car, preferably a small/mid suv, that’s easy to park/manoeuvre in and out of tight spaces. I’d also like it to have front and rear sensors and a reversing camera. Can anyone recommend any?

It was said, that these camera's still measure/clock you if speeds in excess of 70 mph. Truth or Bluff ???

  • Luton Chavport car park 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Please note Luton Chavport car park has no security cameras covering the car park itself. There is one on entry and exit but none covering the car park. I leave you to decide what happens to the cars parked there 'at your own risk'.

  • Specs system 27 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I've received an email from a 'friend of a friend' that says that the specs system (Passive camera speed detection) has been installed on the M4 from Theale to Membury services. Anyone else heard of this? I'm doubtful as I would have thought there would have been more publicity.

  • Cruise control 20 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Now that the police are using the motorising as their milking cow through all these cameras, what is the "profit" to be spent on? Not chasing burglars I'll be bound. Why do we not hear more of cruise control on new cars? Sounds like an obvious means of fighting back on long road stretches at least.
  • Times Article 2 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Worth having a look at todays times (on line and paper edition) an article about speeding yet again. It reports now that it is intended to re-spray speed cameras in dayglo orange to make them easier to to spot. The writer manages to quote the Great Northampton Lie. Have a look.

I have notified the police and got a crime report; I understand that they also notify the DVLA about the theft and if the vehicle is found.
