Trip computer inaccuracy 28 Apr 2021 (Forum)
We are talking about around 20mpg. The car consistently displays for motorway majority trips around 55mpg of fuel consumption. At the time, I thought it too good to be true; after all, I had come from a 2L Diesel Toyota Auris and that one did about 45mpg. The reality is that the RAV4 does about 30-35mpg. And this is what I would expect from a small diesel SUV, so I’m not complaining about the performance/consumption but the inaccuracy of the trip computer. -
Electric Car (EV) Interior Heaters 1 Dec 2020 (Forum)
With a conventional combustion engine you could could have kept your engine running for the whole time (for heat), provided you had a reasonable amount of fuel in your tank. My question is how does the interior heater of an pure EV work (Not a hybrid)? Does it use the car batteries? If so, it would surely have flattened the batteries shortly after being stranded leaving the occupants freezing (or dead) and leaving an non-driveable vehicle needing recovered. -
LPG - why is it still so niche? 20 Jan 2020 (Forum)
There's 1400 LPG stations in the UK - concentrated on more populous areas - so not hard to find. LPG Fuel economy is 20% less than petrol equivalent, but it costs 50% less to begin with. So why oh why are LPG vehicles so unloved? -

VW FOX 1.2 2010, CHFB - 2010 VW Fox 1.2 random intermittent rough idle 24 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I have a VW fox 1.2, 2010, CHFB engine code, 95K on the clock. the car randomly looses power for a few seconds at low speeds, also once stopped at the light etc the idle will be very poor for around 10 - 15 seconds as if its gone into limp home mode, no warning lights are displayed, no fault codes found when I plug in the OBDII device, I have changed all coil packs, spark plugs, fuel filter was done recently, air filter, new injector seals, the 02 sensor has been replaced recently. also the timing chain was replaced at 80K. I've also carried out a compression test which didn't show any problem. -
Something interesting for £7k ? 21 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Annual mileage 10,000 with daily commute of 8 miles each way. More power would be good, minimum 200hp. My man-maths "budget" is the fuel economy. In my head any car that gets 30mpg or better is a winning proposition. As engine technology has moved on since Saab created my engine it looks, on paper, like BMW can get well in excess of 250hp from their 3.0 litre six and still get 35mpg. -
ANY - Electric vs ICE cars - why not use a bicycle? 19 Mar 2019 (Forum)
In reality, the 'well to wheel' carbon footrpint of the electric car is still around 60% of the typical ICE equivalent - because in UK, Germany and many other EU countries a large amount of fossil fuel is burnt to generate the electricity. So unless you charge your EV in France or Sweden - or pay out £8000 for a full 4KW SOLAR PANEL ARRAY on your rooftop you are not really saving the planet. -

Ford Focus - DPF problem - 2.0 Diesel Focus 2006 8 Aug 2018 (Forum)
This lasted a day, the light returned. Does anyone have any idea of what this could be? I'm having a new fuel sender unit installed as when I bought it, I knew it needed one. Also in the times where the car was running OK, cruising at 2000rpm presented me with a slight hesitance/judder. Enough to rock me back and forth In my seat. -

vauxhaull vivaro 2005 - vivaro, problems with revving and running 8 Dec 2017 (Forum)
it splutters and misfires then stops at 2400 revs and blows grey smoke out the exhaust...a lot of it. it seems to be over fueling as it smells of diesel. every now and then it will clear the 2400 but it doesn't rev clean at all. its been on a computer and had a few faults, but we think these were from disconnecting sensors to see if it made any difference. it does go into limp mode after a couple of minutes. -

New Car? Commute Change 13 Mar 2017 (Forum)
We have 3 options with regards to her new commute, basically the new commute will cost her about £10 a day in fuel (Yaris), £12-13 in the Mazda. 1) let her use the Yaris, its better mpg but not ideal due to type fo travel, 2) Use the Mazda which has a worse mpg 3) Replace 1 car with a diesel due to the distance travelled, but if so which car to replace and which to buy (one still in warranty?)? -

OP-COM shows more than 10 errors after this happens and the TCM shows as "not present ???" until the car has been left off for 20 mins, then it's ok. -
Nissan Xtrail 2.2 di sport - Air Flow Meter? 8 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Last year I had a problem with my car stalling when slowing down and kangarooing as if there was a fuel blockage. I went to my garage several times and then took it to a Nissan dealership at their suggestion, no faults came up on the computer but they suggested I needed to replace the Air Flow Meter at the cost of £450 (part only). -
