  • Ford Focus 1.6 2007 Petrol - Strange noise 8 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I have always found the fly by wire accelerator a little quirky but this issue is now making driving the car a little irritating. The car has done about 46000 miles and is about 3.5 years old. Does anyone have any ideas what it may be before I take it in to a Ford s******? Many thanks
  • Toyota Corolla - What can I do with an old French registered car 25 Feb 2011 (Forum)
My son was working in France last year and bought an ancient, left hand drive, Toyota Corrolla automatic. It only cost him £400 and has been a fantastic workhorse, touring both France and Italy before driving back to the UK with not a spot of bother. Unfortunately he has now gone to Spain to work and left the car with me and asked me to scrap it.
  • Nissan Almera 1.8 SE 2000 - Judder/Misfire - Help 23 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The car seems to have a very intermittent Judder\Misfire that only seems to occur in 4th or 5th gear (but not all the time) The car seems to drive faultlessly in gears 1-3 & starts & idles very smoothly with no unusual rattles or noises. I have done a bit of googling (after I purchased the car) and am well aware that there are issues with stretched timing chains on these cars which I know can be pricey to replace.

Please advise me.  How much harm will I do to the engine if I continue to drive?  The milage was 31,000 miles when I bought the policy and now 34,000 miles.
  • 98' VW Passat 1.9TDI 90BHP - Power loss near 3000 rpm 7 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hello,          This probably has come up many times before but I have the following problem with my car which has over 200 k miles on it. Car drives fine until i get to motorway and usually if I go near 3000 rpm I lose power. You can actually feel the power going. Then its as dead as a door nail. Turn off the car and turn it back on and car is fine again.
  • Jeep Cherokee 2.5CRD - Blown fuel injectors 16 May 2010 (Forum)
In January a bolt sheared and fuel injector 3 dropped onto the road (literally). In April injector 4 blew its rubber O-ring twice in 3 days. Finally yesterday whilst driving back from Bristol one of the rear injectors blew suddenly 20 miles from home (big bang, lots of smoke). The car drives normally in between these episodes - no loss of power, timing issues, stalling or change in engine noise.
  • Kangaroo cars 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I took the car back several times only to have the lead mechanic perform a diagnostic test and say with transparent honesty and hand on heart that there was nothing wrong and it was the way that I was driving. After a particularly dangerous situation I spent time examining the engine and found that the same lead mechanic had not reconnected the crank position sensor securely.

  • Volkswagen Lupo (1999 - 2004) - 99 1.4 Bad Engine Noise 7 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Hi, need some help with my Vreg 60,000mi 1.4s Lupo. When idling or revving/driving under 2000 revs the petrol engine sounds like transit van!!!!! As soon as you rev or drive above 2000 engine noise/heavy rattle smooths out??? It doesn't go away with pushing the clutch. All the fluids are at the correct level.
  • The image of Ferrari down under 26 Sep 2009 (Forum)
No one had except the Kiwi director. He said he had briefly owned a Ferrari at home in New Zealand. But he had stopped driving it because whenever he did people kept shouting: 'What a *******!' I had expected the story, told by my sister-in-law who was a good friend of Kennedy Martin, to end with the offer of free drives in new Ferraris.
  • Daewoo Matiz (1998 - 2004) - 00 796 Ignition failure while driving 8 Jul 2009 (Forum)

  • Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 03 2.0 Knocking noise from engine 22 Jun 2009 (Forum)
If I dip the clutch I can feel the vibration clearly on the pedal. The noise can be quite loud as I rev the engine with the clutch in. If I continue to drive normally the knocking stops after 30 seconds or so and I can continue to drive without a any problems. The crank shaft pulley appears to be in good order. Has anyone had a DMF behave like this? Any opinion much appreciated.
  • Smiling and motoring? or standard sour face? 30 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Or do you go for what seems to have become the `standard British sour face? I remember a grim Winter in 1987 and driving through slow moving traffic in Bradford city centre. People standing waiting for buses with faces that looked like they were on Death Row - and their milk had gone off. I remember saying to Fiona as the 2cv crept past " for goodness sake don`t smile".
  • Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 97 1.6 low constant noise at the front, dif? 3 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hi there, i would like to hear an opinion different to what i have heard in the garage today as i got realy upset, my megane, end of 97yrs, has been threatened with a 900gbp bill. the car drives perfect and i absolutelly loving it, however this horrible noise appeared at the front , considered wheel bearing, have replaced one as per advise at garage. however noise didnt disappear, guys at the garage blamed faulty bearing and replaced it again under warranty, it obviosly didnt help. today i was told it is DIF which is making the noise and they have to take apart gear box, etc, rebuild everything which may increase total costs to 900gbp. i am not prepared to spend that much money on such an old car (just under 80000miles). two points, shall i drive until it dies and if its safe or shall i look for second oppinion. has anybody had simmilar problem?

  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - Micra engine lifespan? 2 Feb 2009 (Forum)
There have been a few fairly cheap examples with 50-90k on them but as a high percentage of micra owners will be OAPs and people who have never had a car serviced in their life because they have only done 4k of driving over the 3 years they've had it, the low mileage doesn't straight away strike me as the most important factor. On the other hand I've found one an hour's drive away with 1L, 120k on the clock, 2 previous owners & 12 months MOT.
  • My van insurance ! 14 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have a Toyota Hi Ace which I use for my business being self employed.I have had this van for about 4 years now and had full no claims on it.I have never had a claim on my cars, bikes and vans up until this year. My wife was driving the van one Sunday and turned a bit sharpish off the end of our drive and scraped the sliding side door against a telegraph pole.Said door was past repairing so being insured fully comp made a claim.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.6 Squeaky rear brakes & whine from clutch 27 Nov 2008 (Forum)
It goes away when I let go of the clutch. And even when i am driving and go to change gear, clutch pedal down, a strange whine comes from the engine and then goes away once the clutch is released.. It seems very odd, never heard of this on any of my previous cars.
