  • New car with more poke... Suggestions? 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Not too many about. I'm also thinking about some smaller cars - maybe the Honda Civic type R, Ford Focus St, Alfa 156, Audi A3 / A4, but not really looked into these yet. Probably still a bit too expensive. Anyway, any other suggestions / comments on these or other cars much appreciated...

  • Help me to pick the right car this time 22 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I currently drive an 04 Leon 130 TDI bought almost a year ago with c.10k on the clock - have topped 30k miles this year and this will continue for the forseeable future as my job involves a lot of driving. Problem -Love the car but a 5 month old baby has proved what a bad choice on the practicality front this car was last year. 1 - boot space nowhere near enough to comfortably fit in buggy and other travel essentials on a trip.
  • Insurance rockets after company car bash 13 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Consequently they cannot add the Primera to the existing policy - because of my daughter's age as well as the fact that I don't wish her to be a named driver of the Primera. Now the costly part : I had an accident in August 2005 (my only one) in the company car, £2500 claim ; whilst stationary I opened my driver door and a car coming from behind me hit it (both at fault as I didn't see him and he must have been too close) We claimed on the company car insurance.
  • X Reg Corsa Starting Probs 13 Oct 2005 (Forum)
(I know very little about cars but I use this description because I once drove an old Mini which had starter problems and it sounded just like this). On the fourth attempt I gave it a bit of gas and the car started but as soon as I released the gas it began to splutter so I put my foot back again and kept the revs at around 1500.
  • Charitable Dealers? 15 Aug 2003 (Forum)
My sister recently lost her husband far too early in tragic circumstances. She had been intending to replace her car and in a bit of a muddled state, sold her own car privately and traded in her husband's car against a one year old Fiesta LX with 20k miles. As the saying goes, act in haste..... She was a bit miserable about the whole thing and this was reflected in that she was unhappy with the colour.
  • Reliable Used Hatchback - £10k Budget 5 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Hello all, I am relatively new to the world of cars (and this forum) so thought I would seek some expert advice... I bought my first car from a private seller at the start of the year - an 8 year old Mini One with 50k on the clock and in otherwise excellent condition.
  • SUV - Help on How many KM on a used car 13 May 2021 (Forum)
I am pretty sure I don't want a car older than 5 years old (say 2016) as I plan to keep the car a long time and I like I do like my modern gadgets. Therefore I am likely to go for a higher trim car with a few more KM on the odometer than a lower trim car with less.
  • Audi S8 - What does your car say about you? 22 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Its now 14 years old and over 200K miles but I still love driving it. So my question is where am I on a car owing scale? I would never consider parting with good money (my own) for a new car, but am quite happy to part with a similar amount for a "decent" 2nd hand car ie exec, luxury performance etc.
  • Done 2000 miles in my car now 24 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Also contary to changing car thread about 6 weeks ago I have decided now not to plan for a new car and just run this car into the ground. I won't let it look like an old banger so I will keep it till either it fails the MOT badly, needs too much welding, the engine dies or I crash it.
  • 'unsafe' car purchased - Advice needed 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The car is 6 years old and has around 65000 miles on the clock. She is now waiting for their head office to get back to her but she is not confident that they will help her. Can you please give advice.

  • 2001 Mk2 1.2 16v Petrol - 2001 Mk2 1.2 16v Petrol - turns over, won’t start. 13 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Maybe bleeding is needed with Clio. I have zero experience with fault diagnosis on Renault Cars. If this was a 40 year old car with a carburettor and points I would be able to quickly diagnose the issue. I believe this diagram is correct for a 2001 Clio , but I have no idea where to find the various components Please suggest what I need to check to eliminate some issues and find the problem.
  • Renault Clio - Are stone chips worth repairing 22 Mar 2023 (Forum)
My Clio is 6 years old now, The bonnet has a few stone chips and it also had a bit of a dent in it after someone fell over onto my car , but managed to pop the dent back out and you can't really tell any damage. Regards the stone chips, I have bought a touch up, but been a metallic red , "Mars red"   I think its going to stand out.
  • VW polo - Cash in lieu settlement 12 Jun 2022 (Forum)
It's for more then our repair  cost. Thing is what happens? we have made it clear we are keeping the car. I'm inclined to forget the whole thing... Should I as the excess situation is difficult and will affect our insurance in future. Do we get to keep the car if we accept this payment? Do they need receipts for our repair?
  • Year of Registration vs VIN conflict! 18 Oct 2021 (Forum)
However, when I checked out the VIN number, I noticed that the year on the manufacturer's plate has been defaced and the year letter within the VIN is a "D". I looked this up online and it seems to suggest that the car is actually originally from 07/01/1982-06/30/1982. Checking the VIN on the logbook it's not the full number, just the "D" and the following 7 digits I have a couple of questions... 1) Is this as it seems and he has passed off a 1982-3 car as being from 1979?
  • Ford fiesta zetec - Car juddering at low speed 23 Feb 2021 (Forum)
I inherited a ford fiesta zetec Mk6 2007 1.4 16v from a elderly gentleman who passed away. Unfortunately the car has been stood for 14 months if not more before I took ownership. In the last 2 weeks, she has flown through an MOT with no work doing or needed which surprised me completely, I've changed all 4 alloys to steels because somehow 3 out of 4 was egg shaped and a few cosmetic bits light upgrade bulbs, good polish and was etc.
  • Which is better Yaris, or Panda? 28 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I could not make up my mind which one to buy after sold my old Peugeot 306 for a Yaris 1.4D 73bhp 2004 or Panda 1.3 Multijet 70bhp 2004, I have been on both out for a test drive, both are very space for a small car, Panda is cost £29 cheaper to insure than Yaris, both have same road tax but the engine I am more focus is mpg because I am driving nearly 30,000 miles per year between 60-70mph on dual carriage, the Panda’s engine is rev to 2,900rpm at 70mph but the Yaris is rev low at 2,500rpm do you think 2,900 rpm is far too much for a diesel engine.
  • Honda CR-V 2015 - Satnav not always showing speed limits 14 Aug 2018 (Forum)
OK, not a big problem, but annoying, and one that the dealer can't fix. First of all, just a reminder that this is an Austrian registered car, because that's where we live :-) Last year, the car developed bluetooth connectivity problems, so the local dealer, from where we purchased the car, updated the software, which fixed the problem.
  • Volkswagen Passat Estate - Replacing Passat estate with .... 12 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Tried the following: CRV 2.2 diesel - really liked it, but couldn't get comfy. CRV petrol (old model) - bit sluggish, again couldn't get comfy. Civic tourer 1.6 diesel - impressed with new diesel, but noisy and seats weren't good for back. Kia sportage 2.0 diesel - felt more car like, seats were nice, but I worry about paintwork.
