Help choosing the right car please 27 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Hi, Im looking for some help choosing a new car. I currently drive 61 plate Honda Civic 1.4 Type S. I actually really like my car. It feels good to drive, looks sporty without verging on being a boy racer type and I love the modern style dashboard and interior. -
Golf GTD/GTI - Golf GTD/GTI MK6 indecision 9 Feb 2017 (Forum)
So to explain my driving situation, I will be joining the military this year (April time) and i'll be ranging from 100 to 200 miles from home and be making regular trips back, I reckon between 1-2 a week (but the car may not get used a lot in the time between). -
Automatics - Elderly drivers + automatic = crash? 26 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Driver 83 year old man So pedal confusion panic could be a factor in all these cases (as could several other factors I admit) but instead of banning 80+ year olds from driving should we stop them driving autos or make left foot braking training compulsory (if that is even possible?) -
Citroen Xsara Picasso, 1.6 TDi, 2004, 75k miles - Sudden total clutch slip(?) - no previous symptoms 18 Sep 2015 (Forum)
- Am in France and need knowledge/info before a garage 'has me by the curlies...' and takes me to the cleaners! Does anyone have any experience of this? Driving normally, slowing and got a judder (I thought I was too slow for still being in 5th gear), immediately depressed clutch (and engine stalled), changed gear and expected to 'bump re-start' car while still driving - but I had no clutch engagement. -
Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe CDI250 62Reg - Pulling Left 19 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I've been on a road test with a service engineer driving, he also said it is normal for Mercedes in the UK to pull in this fashion due to the road camber, but I can replicate the result in a flat car park. I have checked all tyre pressures. -
Ford Focus Diesel - Problem with Engine Management System 30 May 2013 (Forum)
I then drove a further 450 miles including motorway driving hassle free. On a later journey at high speed, the car gave a large stutter and the EMS light came on again although the engine did not cut out this time. I took the car to another dealership and they checked the filter but found no problems with it but replaced it anyway. -
Peugeot 306 Meridian 1998 reg - Has the garage caused these issues? 28 May 2013 (Forum)
I kind of noticed the dashboard wasn't illuminated but didn't think too much of it as it was only just getting slightly dark. I didn't think much about it until I had to drive back home. I turned on the headlights and there wasn't a single light on the dashboard. Not even the hazard switch was lit as it normally is. Luckily I wasn't far from home but I had to drive back with absolutely no way of seeing anything on the dash - or knowing what my speed was. -
Requesting some recommendations 8 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I also like the SEAT Ibiza, which seems to strike a good balance between sensible and fun, particularly the 3 cylinder 1.2 which will save me a relative fortune in insurance compared to cars with larger engines. To give you a further idea of what I would like to drive, I would rather get the bus than get a Ford KA; I'm not looking for a cheap, utterly practical and reliable tool, I want to thoroughly enjoy owning and, more importantly, driving my car. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.6 Overheat Problem 19 Jul 2012 (Forum)
If it is coolant blockage or thermostat could this cause the engine to blow again if not rectified straight away, wondering why the mechanic would not have checked it as I told him the symptoms right before it blew last time ? Not sure if this matters but just let it get up to running temp on the drive then subjected it to sustained revs of 4-5K and the temp guage didn't budge off normal so assume this only occurs when actually driving. Sent a text to the mechanic today saying I wanted a replacement engine or refund but not sure if this is the route to take if it is only likely to be a minor issue. -
Jaguar XJ8 and XJR8 (1997 - 2003) - 01 3.2 Very Rough on Idling 3 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Car runs perfect and has bags of power and sounds sweet in every way until ?.. The Problem. Car left on drive in rain for maybe 4 days. Started up perfectly on first turn and I drove off. About 60 yds along road engine warning light began to flash and then ?Reduced Power ? warning appeared. I turned around and got onto drive . -
Toyota Hilux Surf 1993 - UK car across Europe, Non UK driver/owner? 21 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Is it legal to drive like this ? Will the insurance cover if there's an accident ? Would it be possible to cross European borders only with the papers I have ? Is it possible to do an equivalent MOT test in other countries in Europe for an UK registered car? -
Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 91 1.6 Sick Pug 1 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I found a way to get round this by not engaging the clutch until the last minute which in most cases has worked till I could take time off work to investigate (suspected Cold Air Sensor) however I now have a bigger problem which I am not sure whether or not it's related. Driving along the other day and I heard a small pop and the car lost power, it still drives but stinks of unburnt petrol (which it did anyway with the other problem but now worse). I pretty much stopped driving it after I got home. -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - whooshing noise on test drive 31 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Felt really lovely inside and well-cared for. Up for £9950, but good trade in means lower cost to change than above. Problem on test-drive- heard a whooshing noise from the engine on accelerating. Might have been my imagination, but felt a little down on power compared to others I have driven. 3) Metallic burgundy, black leather, manual, 25k, 07 plate. -
Ireland, speed cameras and Nissans 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Ireland is a lovely country, and what was refreshing is that in our touring of County Kerry I didn't see a single speed, enforcement, police monitoring, fund-raising, average-watching or any other kind of camera but the ones being used by tourists to photograph each other and the landscape. Nor did I see anyone driving too fast or stupidly. Roadside signs said there had been 55 deaths on Kerry's roads in the last 4 years. Someone on here will probably be able to do something with that statistic. I think the lack of cameras made driving more relaxed: not because I wasn't going to get flashed and points, but because I could just drive. -
Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - Crash 22 Apr 2008 (Forum)
police said it was insurance job and i couldnt believe what i was hearing. police gave me a full name, address, ins and personal check and didnt even run her through the computer. we are both 20 and have been driving carefully for 2 and 3 years respectively and i feel we may lose our no claims over this. i dont think it is fair that because i am a young driver people assume i was speeding. she was driving a brand new scenic which was a mobility car. -
Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - Hired a Honda Accord in Cape Town. 18 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The main South African roads are pretty good with a speed limit of 120 kph on freeways. There was quite a heavy police presence around the Cape, so I behaved and watched speed limits. Gong out the N1 to Worcester one drives through a long mountain tunnel de Toits Kloof. Drivng Chapman's Peak Drive on other days and various other areas was superb. All in all I was extremely fond of the Honda Accord. I was very sorry to have to return it to the hire company at Cape Town Airprt. -
Ibiza, Leon or Focus 13 Jan 2008 (Forum)
An odd choice, I know, what with the cars being from two different classes, but my flatmate is considering her first car (parent funded) and wondered about experiences of the following cars: 2002 "02" Focus 1.6 16v Silver (special ed) 50,000 miles, £4,800. 2003 "53" SEAT Leon 1.6 16v SX 58,000 miles, £5,500. 2003 "03" SEAT Ibiza 1.4 16v (100) Sport 42,000 miles, £4,999. From her test drives she reckons they seem similar, but doesn't think her test drives were very representative - the SEAT's were both driven on rough roads and felt it in terms of ride apparenty, and the Focus benefitted from smooth roads and seemed smoother. -
What to buy 19 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I could remove the front wheel if necessary, as I'll have to do if I go for a Fabia (vRS high on my list) Reliability is important, though with so much motorway driving I never wear anything out. I don't mind paying for a good extra 2 year warranty (this is a car I'll expect to keep for 3 years, maybe more) Fuel choice isn't important. I am leaning towards a Fabia or Octavia diesel, but a petrol car would be fine if it returns over 50mpg with my gentle driving. -
Two small cars in 24 hours 18 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Overall, I would have preferred to spend more time in the Micra, had it not been for the seats. Driving - The 207 is cleary a slightly larger car and to that end, has a larger and more confortable feel. Both had very light steering (almost too light). My main gripe with both was the gearing - too low. -
How is prosecution decided in an RTA 20 Sep 2007 (Forum)
She wrote down that he was driving in the chevrons when he was actually driving along side the chevrons and swerved into the chevron area to try and avoid the car. The magistrates accepted this but still found him guilty because he hadn't seen the other car indicating that he was turning right.
